Can't believe no one has yet posted on this outstanding failure.

Joexi seems afraid to do anything, he may lose his VIP seat on the CCPbus and end up under the bus

After china gave the World the Wuhan virus, JoeXi allows this thing to fly above us for days now?

How does anyone know what's on this thing?

    More deadly viruses? Nukes?

    A dry run?

It's not what they are trying to say in the media , it's more. As it got away from China as alleged, why didn't China notify anyone immediately?

It got away from China a long, long way from here. Still, no one the wiser.

As it approached US air space, why were we not notified by China, an enemy, that a mistake was happening?

Why was it not shot down before entering our air space? Did "intelligence", and I use the term loosely, even know about it?

JoeXi is either completely inept or maybe he's the real traitor...and both

It needs to be taken down and investigated. If it's all weather data collecting send it back and tell them to keep it out of our airspace.

There are all kinds of things you can do with a balloon. Viruses, anthrax, bird flu, hoof and mouth, you name it. All kinds of ways to damage someone. Japan sent 10,000 balloons towards the U.S. in WW2. Five kids in Oregon were killed by one. Our government kept it a secret. an_light

You guys crack me up, like Biden is the one who is monitoring the atmosphere, the only time he would be aware is if the situation got to the point where he needed to be. It would also be quite amateur hour if we turned something small and likely without consequence into something enormous...sounds like a pretty stupid thing to do if you ask me.

But hey it gives the GOP fist shakers something to complain about and without that life seems a little bit empty.

In past years, there has been similar incidents.  Not unusual for weather research balloons to be blown off course by wind.  China has apologized for unintentional entry of balloon into US air space.  NORAD estimates this balloon travelled from Alaska and Canada to Montana.  Canada appears unconcerned.  If spying, balloon has limited value in providing intelligence that couldn't be obtained from spy satellites.  Pentagon official says balloon presents no threat to airplanes and people on the ground.  There is no plan to shoot down the balloon which should harmlessly exit US air space in a few days.

    Nope, nope, nope...

    The sky is not falling.........again!

Responding to these attempts at fear mongering is as annoying as slapping away a gnat.

Why has our Pentagon called this balloon "a Chinese surveillance balloon"?

The official said that while it was not the first time China had sent spy balloons to the United States, this one has appeared to remain over the country for longer.

It was unclear what China was looking for in Montana, but the state is home to the 341st Missile Wing at Malmstrom Air Force Base, one of three American Air Force bases that operate and maintain intercontinental ballistic missiles.

President Biden has chosen, for now, not to shoot down the balloon.

Once again you are flat-out wrong about pretty much all of this.

Pentagon disputed China's version of events on Friday afternoon. Brigadier General Patrick Ryder told a press briefing: 'We know it's a surveillance balloon.'

Though nations commonly use satellites to spy on one another, balloons have some advantages in surveillance:

    • Cost: Balloons are cheaper to build and launch.
    • Time: Satellites have brief windows to photograph areas of interest before they orbit out of range. Balloons can spend more time over specified areas.
    • Range: Balloons can scan and photograph larger tracts of territory than satellites can.

With a spy balloon, foreign governments can claim it is used for a civil purpose, such as monitoring weather patterns. Beijing made that claim on Friday, saying the airship was being used for meteorological pursuits.

Over the past few years, spy balloons have flown over the continental U.S. a “handful” of times, a Defense Department official said on Thursday. But the distinguishing factor of the Chinese high-altitude balloon compared to other instances is the inflatable was “hanging out” for a longer period, said the official, who asked not to be named in order to discuss sensitive issues.

The high-altitude balloon was tracked flying over Malmstrom Air Force Base, home to silos containing intercontinental ballistic missiles.

“Clearly, they're trying to fly this balloon over sensitive sites,” the official said.

The various experts do not agree with anything you said.  confused

Of course Biden is not monitoring the airspace, but he is in charge of who is supposedly monitoring the airspace.

Of course, he doesn’t get the blame for anything according to you guys — not inflation, gas prices, border protection, etc.

Naturally, he would not get blamed for a lack of airspace sovereignty either.

When it became widely accepted that it was a surveillance balloon and not just a ‘meteorological balloon’ he should be made aware.

When it even became known that a foreign balloon, weather or not, had entered his airspace he should have even been made aware.

When it became known that folks in Montana were the first to notice it and not the monitoring resources the government has in place, he should have been made aware.

Now he has been made aware.   Now it is another thing he must be held accountable for.

Many questions have to be asked about this.  Do they really ‘know’ that it presents no imminent dangers or issues or are they simply hoping?   Does that even matter if it does or does not?

If the USA were to ‘accidentally’ lose control of a ‘weather’ balloon over China or Russia would they expect this response?

If this is an innocent case, why not alert the USA right away?   They knew if it were discovered what an uproar or panic it might cause?   Were they just hoping for it not to get discovered?

A ‘weather balloon’ this big?  And you should know full well how strong the upper winds are in the winter time.   You still let it go on a path that will allow it to get away from you?   Then when it does you do not make Canada or USA officials aware of it?

China knows the studies and concerns that have been done in the past about balloons being used to transport nuclear devices and/ or other elements over a foreign country.

Then if you are truly worried about shooting it down and it hitting a ‘kindergarten’, would you feel the same way about a jet that got ‘lost’ over USA airspace?  Would you expect China to have that same reciprocity?

We know for a fact Russia would not be averse to shooting a lost civilian plane down.  Would China?  So, would we really think they would not shoot down a ‘lost weather balloon?

Would we really expect any less of them to do it?  So, why be worried about what they would think if the USA shot theirs down?

I am not saying it should be shot down.  I am questioning if it was a legitimate lost balloon why China did not inform the other countries?

I am questioning why no one wants to hold Biden accountable for not knowing earlier and for what his response to prevent further situations like this will be?

It is quite boring playing partisan pattycake so I usually avoid it and this will be the last thing I say here but the whole thing is quite amusing at best.

Here is a news flash for the GOP dust storm folks...China is doing more with regards to spying and seeking information than floating a weather balloon and the US is also doing their own spying and observing and detecting...so we can stop rolling back the spy strategies 200 years and move on to the big topic at hand which is how horrible is Hunter Biden? That story you guys have for another year plus and at least that has teeth...this boogie monster scheme is quite lame compared to Hunter and you will leave this dead topic quite soon, but hey it sure is fun to find the item to blame Biden for today I guess.

confused  So, since you feel that way and maybe really believe it -- your response is do nothing?  Carry on as normal?  What if it is 5 or 6 'weather balloons' next week?  Still no problem?

Sure, there are other things to worry about.  But that does not mean to NOT be concerned about this.

By the way it is not just Republicans that have expressed a concern about this.  Certainly, it is a fact that the Republicans seem to care more about the border and the airspace, but even some Democrats realize there is a reason to be concerned about this and China’s lack of early forthcoming.

    For example:

Members of Congress in both parties are calling the spy balloon an unacceptable violation of U.S. airspace and American sovereignty. The chairman and ranking member of the new select committee on China, Reps. Mike Gallagher, R-Wisc., and Raja Krishnamoorthi, D-Ill., put out a joint statement Thursday condemning China ahead of Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s trip to Beijing for talks with his Chinese counterpart.

“The Chinese Communist Party should not have on-demand access to American airspace. Not only is this a violation of American sovereignty, coming only days before Secretary Blinken’s trip to the PRC, but it also makes clear that the CCP’s recent diplomatic overtures do not represent a substantive change in policy. Indeed, this incident demonstrates that the CCP threat is not confined to distant shores – it is here at home and we must act to counter this threat,” the lawmakers said.

    And:

A Montana Democrat is joining Republican lawmakers in demanding answers after a suspected Chinese spy balloon was revealed to be flying over the western United States, and are calling into question the Biden administration’s response to the violation of U.S. airspace.

Perhaps the most forceful response came from Montana Democrat Sen. Jon Tester, who chairs the Senate panel that controls the Pentagon budget. Tester delivered a broadside on the incursion into his state’s airspace and said he’ll hold a hearing to keep pressure on the administration to explain it.

“I’m demanding answers from the Biden Administration,” Tester said in a statement. “I will be pulling people before my committee to get real answers on how this happened, and how we can prevent it from ever happening again.”
