i'm not sure if this has been mentioned, but my favorite part of this ted cruz thing is that what he actually said, from what i heard, is to vote your conscience (Def.: theinnersenseofwhatisrightorwronginone'sconductormotives, impellingonetowardrightaction.)
and everyone interprets that to mean don't vote for trump.
If you're truly voting your conscience you can't vote for Trump or Hillary or else you are one twisted individual. That leaves us with one of the third party candidates.

To me, the post has a foundation built in sand. A Trump tower is definitely built on a firm foundation of pilings driven deep into the ground until they are firmly affixed to bedrock.
Perhaps I am the worlds biggest idiot or the worst math student ever, but the math for mattbrot doesn't add up. I need some explanation to help shore up the foundation.
At present there are 6531 posts associated with the OP.
The OP rarely posts more than half a dozen times in most threads but there may be a handful of exceptions.
Also, one could probably count the number of times the OP has been critical of the other side....on one hand....and have a finger or two left to scratch ones scalp...
Conservative math would deduce that you still have over 3000+ posts critical of the left or left leaning principles to officially qualify for the NPI ribbon.
To me is the equivalent of Trevor Story calling himself 'Mr. 3000'
Then there's the positive aspect to think of. I always regret when I do not end on a positive note. ( I need to get better at that. Work in progress.)
At least you don't have as far to go as the Da Rel...the other prominent self titled NPI. He's got over 12,000 posts to go.

why focus on the trivial aspect of this thread and my original post? You do not believe me about being a non-partisan independent. That is very clear. No big deal one way or the other.
But that does not address that main point of the thread at all.

And there you have it folks. Possibly the most egregious case of fundamental hypocrisy that we have seen lately.
An example most deserving the category of "mattbrot principle".
This non-partisan independent is embarrassed for the GOP that this has happened.
How about any of you???
How about hearing it from a Cruz supporter and delegate?
Geraldine Sam, former Mayor of La Marque, TX, told CNN she came to the convention as a Cruz delegate but is leaving as a Trump supporter after Sen. Ted Cruz's address at the RNC Wednesday night..
"If you cannot be a person, a word of your bond, then guess what, if I can't trust you to say and do what you're going to say, then how are you going to expect me to trust you to say any other things?" Sam asked
"If you lied to me, then that's telling me you lied to me," Sam said of Cruz. "You lied to me. You lied and said you were going to support the party nominee and you won't. Then you lied to me. And I'm very upset at this time. When you walked on, I turned my back. Why? Because you lied to me. And don't take my vote for granted because you lied to me."
"I came to this convention as a Cruz delegate and I'm leaving supporting Donald Trump as the party nominee," she concluded.
Evidently to this former Cruz supporter and Cruz delegate he wasn't speaking his mind ..but just plain lyin' ...and he.. Cruz was the one who showed hypocrisy....................

Yes, Cruz went against his pledge that he would support the parties nominee.
But what I find most disturbing in Cruz's speech was that, IMO, his refusal to support Trump was born from nothing more than hurt feelings.
Cruz, as well as his wife, were verbally attacked by Trump. Cruz got his panties in a bunch, and his revenge was to do what he did at the convention.
I don't believe that Cruz was somehow being true to himself, I simply believe that he thought he could extract revenge from Trumps insults by not supporting him, but it completely backfired on him.
There's no place for hurt feelings in politics

Perhaps if you were a true NPI you may not have made this thread in the first place.
To be fair, I used a bad analogy in my other post..I used Trevor Story as an example when I should have used Greg Maddox.

Hugh_Jorgan, I'm sure you are correct,, he thought he could extract revenge from Trumps insults,,but I also believe he was trying to set himself up for a 2020 run for the Presidency and wanted to be able say (if Trump failed ) I wasn't fooled and I stayed loyal to the Old Republican Guard by not endorsing him ...so support.. ME.
As far as Cruz and his wife, being attacked by Trump..lets not forget the nude Melania pics put out in an ad by a Cruz supporting super PAC....before the Trump attack.
Cruz could have controlled the super PAC,, but he didn’t.. For five days he didn’t disavow the sleazy
ad, because he wanted to win Utah and thought the ad would help him do that..

correction. She is the hypocrite as is the GOP on this matter. Plain and simple. And why did you choose to not provide the examples of the delegates who offered support for his decision?

Matt, I search and I searched, but couldn't find a delegate, that offered support for his decision ..I think CNN stopped interviewing after Texas delegate and Cruz supporter Geraldine Sam's comments ( she said things CNN didn't want to hear).
But,alas! ,during my search I did find two influential donors who were among the biggest supporters of Cruz's presidential campaign,,,the remarks from Robert Mercer of Long Island and his daughter Rebekah Mercer...The Mercers invested at least $11 million in “super PACs” that supported Ted Cruz..
“Last summer and again this year, Senator Ted Cruz pledged to support
the candidacy of the nominee of the Republican Party, whomever that
nominee might be,” the Mercers, who rarely comment in the news media,
said in the statement to The New York Times. “We are profoundly
disappointed that on Wednesday night he chose to disregard this pledge.”
We need ‘all hands on deck’ to ensure that Mr. Trump prevails.”
“Unfortunately,”
..“Senator Cruz has chosen to remain in his bunk
below, a decision both regrettable and revealing.
Kellanne Conway, who was the president of a pro-Cruz super Pac said the statement reflects “how
grievously piqued they (Mercers) were to watch Ted’s convention stunt on Wednesday
night.”
Ms.
Conway added, “They supported Ted because they thought he was a man of
his word who, like them, would place love of country over personal
feelings or political ambition.

Here's the text of the pledge which was signed by Ted Cruz and all of the Republican candidates:
I (name) affirm that if I do not win
the 2016 Republican nomination for president of the United States I will
endorse the 2016 Republican presidential nominee regardless of who it
is. I further pledge that I will not seek to run as an independent or
write-in candidate nor will I seek or accept the nomination for
president of any other party.
In March of this year, Cruz reaffirmed that pledge.
"My answer is the same," Political reported Cruz
told reporters when asked if he would support Trump. "I committed at
the outset, I will support the Republican nominee, whoever it is."
He holds the bible high; He puts it down, and then he lies.
Rafael Edward Cruz - is a traitor to the Republican party........he is a traitor to Canadian ........he is now the Edward Snowden of the party...
You wanted a Ted Cruz/Sarah Plain ticket what about the government shutdown by Tea Party members led by Ted Cruz
Now Cruz is a traitor to Canadian
How long have you been a birther ?

Texas Delegates Break Into Bitter Fighting Over Ted Cruz's Non-Endorsement
After withholding an endorsement of Donald Trump in his convention address Wednesday night, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz had some explaining to do to his state delegation Thursday morning.
After taking questions from Texas delegates at a breakfast in Cleveland -- and explaining that “I am not in the habit of supporting someone who attacks my wife and attacks my father” -– the delegation devolved into bitter infighting.
A handful of delegates took their disagreements outside the ballroom after Cruz concluded and broke into full-out shouting matches.
One Cruz supporter grew emotional as she argued with two delegates angry with his decision not to endorse.
"This is like if there's an engagement and your guy that you're gonna marry goes out and does these things that are an abomination to your vows that you're gonna take. Then you have a right to reject that person and not marry him," one woman who supports the Texas senator said.
One response to her position came from a man who had wanted Cruz to endorse Trump. "People talked about my family and I didn't cry about it. I grew up," he said.
"He said he's a Christian he should forgive," another man later chimed in.
The woman responded, "He should forgive, but he does not need to endorse."
One delegate forcefully pointed a finger in another delegate's face. "If he said that about your wife, if he said that about your dad," he said.
"Put your finger out of my face, put your finger down," the other delegate, wearing a Texas shirt, said.
"I hope you'd do the same thing I hope you'd have some character and stand for your family," the other delegate responded, defending Cruz.
"What?" the other delegate countered, "Divide the party?"
Shawn McAnelly, the delegate who confronted Cruz during the breakfast while carrying a "Clinton-Cruz 2020" sign, told ABC News' Jonathan Karl, "He signed a pledge and he didn't follow his word and he will never be president."

Cruz is slimy but I'm not sure if people realize how much of a calculating individual he is. He's pretty certain Trump will lose and I'm inclined to agree. Trump needs to garner the highest share of the white vote ever while likely drawing historic lows from every minority demographic in existence. Reagan was able to get 66% for white voters in 1 of his 2 terms in office. Trump is certainly not Reagan.
The RNC specifically concluded after 2012 that the key for them to win the general election was to be around 40% for Hispanics. That's exactly why Jeb Bush was considered the establishment's choice. Their base rejected the analysis and picked someone divisive in Trump. He won't come close to that number in an election that I'm hearing will have record registration for Hispanics. I didn't even touch on the fact that he's going to lose with female voters as well. You can bet on that as a lock of the week for sure.

Perhaps I am the worlds biggest idiot or the worst math student ever,
As an aside, just to clear something up. When Cruz said to vote your conscience, he wasn't talking to the general voter, but to the delegates. Although the voting took place on Tuesday night, there is always the opportunity for delegates to support other candidates at any point in the convention.
Usually what happens in the convention is the losing candidates pledge their delegates to the winner by endorsement. Cruz was telling his (and other delegates) to vote their conscience.

Telling them to "vote their conscience" as used in Washington speak means when there is a vote in question the party leader gives the member permission, for whatever reason, to vote their conscience rather than the party line. Hence the immediate booing

Yep. My interpretation is he was essentially telling them to vote for himself.

this one is awesome. in trumpcare 2.0, members of congress get the benefit of obamacare (the worst legislature ever, of course, but they like it so much, they added an amendment to keep it for themselves), while everyone else gets f*cked with trumpcare.
