a tough concept for me is, that you feel that local governments cannot meet the needs of their local constituency, state governments cannot meet the needs of their constituency, yet a big bloated federal government CAN

it doesn't make any sense in my opinion, but feel free to explain

The concept I was discussing was of the desire for some to take apart the Federal and just shift the responsibility to state and local governments.

I do not think doing this improves efficiency or saves money, in fact as I stated I think it harms those being harmed the most even more.

You cannot just disband the federal government and have the function it serves go away because it will eventually be forced to return when states and localities fail to perform needed responsibilities and citizens approach the higher representative for help.

To me the reason the feds are there is due to the failure on the state and local government, then complaints and lawsuits come from citizens and groups, or the extreme happens and the feds are forced into action.

The idea that you just shut down the feds and what they are doing goes away is absurd, but lets explore it just a bit for fun anyway..

Name what function you want the feds to stop doing, then consider what that function is and how it can be done BETTER to scale on the state and local level..how can the state do a better job than the federal government, and how do those costs shift in the process?

So say you see a 10 dollar drop in federal income taxes by taking a task away from them and shipping it to your state..how much of an increase in state taxes would you see when the state takes that task and is responsible for it?

Now..show me one state that is doing a better job at the task the feds are doing poorly at...then show me five states, then show me ten and twenty states.

I am not convinced that a MAJORITY of states can do a better job than the federal government at the tasks you are complaining that the feds are doing poorly at..and if you want to take tasks from the federal government then ALL states have to be proven to do a better and more cost effective job at the task you want removed.

When you start putting a process in place and not just looking at political talking points, then the real work starts and not just generic, save money with no details crap that most people do.
