We can tax ammo.
Yes a gun is nothing more than a glorified club at most spear without bullets... Basically useless. Without caps a gun is a show piece.
Tax ammo instead of 46 cents a round for 223. Make it 150 a box of 20. The money generated from ammo sales would directly be sent to securing schools yes hunters will be pissed off but what you do you want school protection.... Ways and means to achieving same goal limited ammo.....

@BigGame90 I like Canada........some beautiful areas west of the Rockies & nice people, but I don't see people fighting to get into Canada. In fact, I have two good friends that hail from Canada but live here now & while they go back to visit relatives, they're not planning on moving back. When I ask them why they simply shrug & say "life is better here".
meanwhile i have 7good american friends who left the usa for canada and r never planning to move back especially in the wake of trump-fascism politics threatening democracy and rising racism . when i ask them why they all say the same "life is not only better in canada but far safer !"

@BigGame90 Always find it interesting when someone trying to be a smartass, points out a grammatical error of a poster only to make one in their chastisement.
Am hoping the other poster would see that. Starting to think that poster might also be a bot.

Canada has nearly the same land mass and 10x fewer people. When you space people out, there's always less crime. Why do you think larger cities always have more crime? Because there is a larger population in a smaller area.
Do you ever hear people saying "damn, I gotta move to Canada because it's so great and prosperous there"? You can not compare Canada to the US. Go look at Toronto and tell me how their gun violence is doing lately. Adding more people to a smaller area brings more violence, it's a proven stat. Now add in economies going to shit and crime is going to increase, also another proven stat.

Japan has a pretty dense population don't they, they have .02 per 100,000 people, that's means we have about 200 times more of a chance of gun violence in our country then they do in theirs. How do you explain that detox?

Good answer, that has nothing to do with the question. You did better yesterday when you just ignored the question. But it is a typical answer from you republicans, "What do you think is the problem in America with guns" Republican response,,"We're trying really hard to fix the opium crisis in America"
and what does Japan have anything to do with the US?

It's an example of how other countries don't have the same gun problems that we do.First you said the reason was Canada has more open land,so because of less density of population, less gun violence.Remember your comment "Why do you think larger cities always have more crime".Then when I point out Japan has a pretty dense(totally different dense then the dense you are) population, but yet they still don't have the gun violence we do.You start spewing sh*t about drug overdose stats.

Japan also has a stop and search, you want to bring that back the US to? Or is that racial profiling?
Japan also has an up to 10 year sentence for unlawful gun ownership, you want the US to keep people in jail longer for illegal gun ownership? That def would have stopped the Sacramento "mass" shooting, the NYC subway, and countless others.
Good luck trying to push that in your liberal friends.

The Japanese people fully accept the authority of their police
Remember "RESIST" movement. How many people get shot by police because they disobey and run?
Japanese police have wide-ranging search-and-seizure powers in order to find illegal weapons. The Firearms Act permits a policeman to stop and search anybody, if the officer feels that there is "sufficient suspicion that a person is carrying a fire-arm, a sword or a knife," or if he feels that somebody "is likely to endanger life or body of other persons judging reasonably from his abnormal behavior or any other surrounding circumstances." If a weapon is found, the policeman may confiscate it and even if the confiscation is later found to be in error, the confiscated firearm is sometimes not returned.
Ironically, the law allowing for special weapons searches is almost redundant, as routine searches by the police are commonplace. They can stop anybody they deem to look suspicious and ask them to show the contents of their purse, case or bag. Technically, citizens are not obligated to show the policeman what is in their bag, but given the Japanese culture of deferring to authority, plus the fact that a refusal could result in the citizen being taken in for further questioning, few refuse. Even if a policeman's search does discover a gun or any other illegal substance and the search is subsequently ruled illegal, it makes no difference to the case, as Japanese courts permit the use of illegally seized evidence
Maybe it's a cultural thing? Maybe people respect authority in Japan. Maybe people follow the rules and obey authority. Maybe people have respect for others in Japan. Not so much here, huh? Maybe it's really just a people problem.

Virtually all Japanese citizens believe that the police should be respected and not questioned. Due to the esteem in which the police are held, the Japanese people willingly co-operate with them, and this co-operation also extends to obeying the laws which almost everyone believes in. The Japanese people, and even the large majority of Japanese criminals, voluntarily obey the gun control laws.
Complete 180 from what the Dems and left have been teaching and yelling the past few year, huh? Do you think what the left has been preaching against police the last few years is helping or hurting the cause about obeying officers?

Were you outspoken about this situation that got swept under the rug by media because it would hurt the then POTUS? Everyone screaming about tougher gun laws (which I am for) but forgets that our govt helped create more issues with guns, specifically AK-47s

So if bad guys can have guns can we have security at our schools such as brinks. The guys who guard money.....
Mass shootings show the futility of armed guards. If a group of police officers cannot stop the shooter, why expect an armed teacher or guard to do better? Their failures debunk "good guy with a gun" as a solution to gun violence. American medical association study of 133 schools found that schools with armed guards suffer gun deaths 3 times higher than schools without armed guards. Overall, no evidence that more guns reduce risk of gun violence.

@BigGame90 Do the Japanese have the history of police corruption we have in this country?
I don't know, do they?
Is their legal system corrupt and people are afraid of the system? Is that why everyone just cooperates?
Maybe Japan has a tough legal system and we should follow their system instead of releasing people on no bail or releasing a criminal 2 times in the same day only to have them back 4 days later.

According to the Gun Violence Archive,a USA based survey group that collects information on gun violence, there were 15,612 gun related deaths in the USA in 2017.This means that on average 42 people were killed each day in the USA as a result of gun violence, which is just under the total of 44 gun related deaths in Japan over the past 8 years.
They have a population of 126,000,000 and a estimate of 377,000 firearms in civilian possession, the USA has a population of 326,000,000 and a estimate of 393,000,000 firearms in civilian possession. And we wonder why they don't have as much gun violence as the USA.Keep saying it might be cultural, and that they can do stop and searches. But it certainly can't be that we have about 3 times as many people, but 1,000 times more guns then they do.I say with only 44 gun deaths in 8 years, maybe we should start doing whatever their doing, don't you think that should be something we should look into?I won't be around for a couple hours,so that should give you enough time to decide if your just gonna ignore this post like you did yesterday,or just answer it with something that has nothing to do with the conversation(aka drug overdoses),or just say you ain't gonna answer because my grammar was wrong somewhere in this post.

I think it's a very multifaceted problem. We do have a history of police corruption in this country. With that said, we both agree that pushing a "All police are bad." narrative doesn't help matters.

Good answer, that has nothing to do with the question. You did better yesterday when you just ignored the question. But it is a typical answer from you republicans, "What do you think is the problem in America with guns" Republican response,,"We're trying really hard to fix the opium crisis in America"
No Republicans are saying to fix the mental health crisis, because guns don't go off by themselves. They want to put armed guards at schools, but Democrats don't want guns there to defend. Schumer wouldn't address the Republican led legislation and instead is trying to pass something to keep Nazi's and white supremacy out of law enforcement. Yeah white supremacy is who is committing all the crime nowadays. I guess all the inner cities are filled with Nazi's and the KKK.
