So which president was in office during Charlie Wilson's war? We have been in that area for decades with both political parties in control. How could this ever be a great exit?
Making this partisan is moronic, the fact we were there for so long is a function of the business of war more than anything else. Corps have made hundreds of billions off this and we accomplished little to nothing but spending money and killing each other.
Yeah its Biden's fault...what a stupid society we are.

Let's try this. At the absolute very least. joe biden deserted our allies. He should have made sure all of the Afghani's who helped us honorably for 20 years were safely relocated.
The great exit would be a scorched earth exit with everybody who helped us relocated along with their families. The Taliban were actually enabled to move fighters, vehicles and weapons in 5 mile convoys without being destroyed. We allowed the Taliban to take over Afghanistan.

The Talibans also took over Afghanistan after the Soviet Union invasion. Reagan and CIA helped them .
2 Republican Presidents, 2 Democrat Presidents - 20 years . Trillions of dollars and American lives wasted
Afghanistan Religion: 99.7% Islam
0.3% Others
The majority of the population probably consider those Talibans their Muslim brothers (albeit hardcore ones)
Fall of Kabul was a joke
Over 250,000 trained Afghan soldiers with US guns and no resistance at all against Talibans
Rumor has it that Afghan soldiers have not been getting paid for a while.
President Ashraf Ghani fled with tons of cash .
He was not given permission to land in Tajikistan, then he decided to go to Oman. Reuters quoted Russian news agency RIA to report that Ghani had to leave some money behind as it would not all "fit in".
"Four cars were full of money, they tried to stuff another part of the money into a helicopter, but not all of it fit. And some of the money was left lying on the tarmac," Nikita Ishchenko, a spokesman for the Russian embassy in Kabul, was quoted as saying by RIA.
Ischenko cited "witnesses" as the source of his information.
US should have left a long time ago.. before the Iraq war
Get out of the Middle east as well

Do you know the impossibility of what you are suggesting? That area is mountains and mountains and mountains...you cant blow it all up, that is the oddest idea Ive ever heard. The issue of terrain is why this mess can never be resolved, its not a war anyone can win, the terrain is terrible and too many unknown groups and factions involved. We went in to cut off the Soviets and we got stuck end of story. Blame corps and the CIA for keeping this money sucking life losing mess going for multiple decades.

You don't let the Taliban move all their asserts in 5 mile long convoys. We certainly have the military capability to destroy the convoys of the Taliban before they move into the Palace in Kabul.

They have been part of this 40 year chess match, ya think they might have learned a thing or two about how to play the game? These tactical thinking kind of messes we have been involved with seem to be the ones we struggle with. It we cant run the enemy over or missle them to the ground we seem mismatched with the ground tactical type of warfare..

I agree WSC. Huge advantage for the Taliban in the mountains, tough terrain and altitude. I will just leave it at this. We allowed the Taliban to take over the country.

true .
that and rump had reduced our forces after losing the election all the way down to just 2,500
there were more people in one end of endzones seats at the raiders new football stadium than us troops left in afghanistan after rump withdrew them . and he and pompeo negotiated a deal which allowed the taliban to do pretty much whatever they wanted with the only opposition being the afghan army after rump reduced our troops to just 2,500
rumps deal and over one full year for the taliban to prepare is what allowed them to takeover so quickly
they terrorized the afghanis with murder and other reprisals if they didnt surrender . they had a year to plan this thanks to rump and the deal to leave the taliban alone .
if rump was still in office the exact same thing would have happened in april as the troops would depart before may 1 deadline
no reason to believe otherwise
and all this began with the bush republican admin

The Afghans allowed the Taliban to take over the country. I hope someone tracks down & destroys Ghani for deserting his country
The book, The Outpost by Jake Tapper, expertly speaks of the terrain issues our soldiers faced. Helicopters couldn't land close enough to remove our wounded or to supply our men and women with food/ammo.
I highly recommend it. Tapper spends plenty of time explaining who these soldiers were, where they came from & their frustrations with the chain of command in a battlefield environment.

we authorized our president by resolution to go after the 9-11 terrorists and find and eliminate the so called weapons of mass destruction and 'imminent threat' in iraq ( which never existed) we did not authorize longterm occupation of the countries and nation building in our democratic image at unbelievable crippling expense to the american taxpayers
the republicans who started it all failed to do either but they did succeed in routing al queda
which is when we should have left long before obama took office
but the republicans failed at that juncture too
obama/biden got bin laden , but they also had the opportunity to get out and failed just like the republicans . obama even surged the troops more
then rump had 4 yrs to get us out and failed .
but not before he depleted our troops to just 2,500 and gave the taliban a 'free-pass' pseudo non agression deal and a full year to prepare to quickly takeover the country
rump also could have begun the process of getting our afghan interpreters and their families out , since he made a deal to leave and had almost 11 months to do it . but he refused !!
this departure is 13-16 years too late . the situation was and is inevitable
i feel for the afghan people particularly the women who will subject to draconian rules of rape and slavery
but like sheik said its not our fight . never was . its a civil war in a foreign country . we can help in other ways without an occupying force
joe biden lost a son in a war that never shouldve happened . rump is a draft dodger

So if following the argument some Democrats are making, if Biden is beholden to Trump’s deals, how did he shut down Keystone about five minutes after taking office?

Nope, this is from Matt Lewis of The Daily Beast.
