If you've ever visited Ft. Lauderdale, you may have visited Chuck's Steak House located on the 17th St Causeway. They were known for great prime rib & a salad bar that was always fresh where you could slice your own potion of raisin pumpernickel bread. The baked potato was a meal by itself. Business was so good a 2nd restaurant opened a little north of the airport in a less tourist trafficked area.
Last Monday they served 28 dinners. Pre-pandemic would have resulted in 150 dinners on a typical Monday night. Friday after 46 years in business they decided to close their doors.
Many of the employees at Chuck's started busing tables or greeting customers as they entered the restaurant. These same employees know of no other job spending their whole career @ Chuck's.
I'm sure there are similar situations across the country but this one hits home. These employees are no spring chickens & will join the unemployment line for the first time in their careers. Most of them are in their 50's and early 60's. Most people, especially those who have worked all their lives, are prideful & would rather not ask for help during this bizarre time in our country.
So if something like this happens in your community, don't be a spectator. Food banks area always in need. Check their websites as to what they need, make a grocery run & deliver it. Most in here would blow a hundy on a game without thinking about it, right?
So help your neighbors who are too proud to ask for help.
