Democrat Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, of Peurto Rican descent
Questions Kimberly Guilfoyle's Knowledge of Her Own Heritage
After She Said she's a 'First-Generation American' at RNC
"The woman the GOP picked as their 'proud' Latina to tout 'immigrant experience'
didn't seem to know that Puerto Rico is already part of the United States," the
congresswoman from New York tweeted. "It's quite on message, bc it reflects
their belief that Latinos aren't real citizens, even when we are Native descendents"

Ghislaine Maxwell's request to move into "the general prison population" & her hopes of getting shanked while in there were dismissed by a judge who decided she will stay in isolation until her trial.
I get the impression she hasn't heard the word "No" very often in her life.

Her father was born in Ireland. She is a first generation American. And Puerto Ricans aren't even full Ameeicans. For example, they can't vote. I expect her to deatroy AOC on this comment. I've defended AOC in the past but maybe she really is an airhead

Seriously? Puerto Rico is a territory. Essentially a colony. The are not a "state" in the United States of America. They lack congressional representation. They don't vote in our elections. They don't have full constitutional protection. This can't be news to you. Was that question sarcasm? If it wasn't then you shouldn't be posting in a political forum.

Alaska Attorney General Kevin Clarkson resigned Tuesday following the publication of an Anchorage Daily News and ProPublica investigation showing he sent hundreds of text messages to a younger state employee that Clarkson acknowledged had made her uncomfortable.
Records obtained by the newsrooms found Clarkson sent at least 558 text messages between March 5 and March 31 to a woman whose job required she sometimes interact with the attorney general. In at least 18 messages he invited the woman to come to his home.
I guess we know which head he was using when he sent these messages.

Puerto Ricans *are* U.S. citizens.
If you are by definition a US citizen
then by definition you can't be an immigrant.

"After 1940, Congress declared that anyone born in Puerto Rico

Kimberly Guilfoyle’s RNC Claim
That Her Puerto Rican Mom
Is An Immigrant Is, Uh, Wrong
Huffington Post
In her Republican National Convention speech, Donald Trump Jr.’s girlfriend
apparently overlooked the fact that Puerto Ricans are U.S. citizens.
Though Guilfoyle’s father was born in Ireland, the assertion that her mother
was also an immigrant left many people scratching their heads —
especially since Puerto Ricans are U.S. citizens and have been since 1917,
according to the Library of Congress.
Guilfoyle’s ignorant statement led many people to fact-check her on Twitter.

I wonder how Puerto Rico will vote in the upcoming Presidential election? As I said before, Puerto Rico is a territory. Yes, part of America... but not quite.

how they vote or not is totally irrelevant . they r American citizens not immigrants .
women couldnt vote before 1920 but they were citizens before .
blacks couldnt vote (realistically) until the voting rights act of 1965 but they too were American citizens .
incarcerated inmates r citizens today too but they cant vote either (except maine and vermont)
Puerto Ricans r American citizens even if they cant vote in prseidential elections yet!
like fubah2 said if u r an AMerican citizen by definition then u cant be an immigrant
which means gillfoyle is a 2nd generation not first as she wrongly said
and she should know better . in fact i think she does know but wants to help trump erase all the negatives about him and immigrants

I fell in love with a Puerto Rican girl on the NYC subway years ago....but I digress.
Puerto Ricans who fled the island to join family in central Florida will be ecstatic to vote for their 1st time.
According to the Florida Secretary of State, there were about 107,600 newly registered Hispanic voters in 2019. A majority — 46 percent — were registered as NPA (No Political Affiliation). Thirty-three percent registered as Democrats, and 18% as Republicans.
Both parties want to tell this new voting base how wonderful they are, garner their vote & then forget all about them.
That's one of the many reasons why politicians suck!

Look, I never said they weren't citizens. I've been to Puerto Rico. What I said was, 1. Was she referring to her father, because he is an immigrant. I didn't watch, so I didn't have the context. And 2. While Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory, it's citizens don't have the same battery of rights and an American born in the states. This is all factual.

Kinda of like the way many (not all) conservatives show all kinds of concern for an unborn fetus the size of an eraser, but typically don't give a ph**k after they are actually born. Everyone pulls their own weight!
That said, from what I've read, most Puerto Ricans (AMERICANS!!!) who left the island did so *because* of the hurricane devastation -- and they are still bummed at trump for disrespectful comments and hurling paper towels at them to solve their problems.

Yes, factual.
But as KellyM said, "it's irrelevant" to the point.
YOU incorrectly stated: "She is a first generation American."
... and WRONGFULLY criticized Democrat AOC when it is SHE who is correct!
[quote] "I've defended AOC in the past but maybe she really is an airhead "
And btw, "it's citizens" ... are OUR citizens.

As of last night, Webster has a new word to add in the dictionary....
Guilfoyling is when you try to make a Braveheart style speech, but end up just scaring the horses.

Her father was an immigrant, so she is a first generation American in that regard. That was my point. I then followed up by saying, to come from Puerto Rico, in what had to have been the 60's, would have felt like immigrating. Puerto Rico maintains a level of sovereignty. Their people aren't treated as full citizens, unless they take up residence in the states. Those were my points, which are all factual. I wasn't defending Kimberly Guifoyle, whom I detest almost as much as her boyfriend. And I wasn't arguing the fact that her mother was an immigrant. I said, "Her father is an immgrant. Was she was referring to him." Then I said, "Heck, even her mother wasn't a like a full American." I promise moving from Puerto Rico to California 50 or 60 years ago felt like immigration.

Was her father not an immigrant?
So??
Was her mother NOT an American-born citizen??? That's the relevent point.
There are TWO differing statements from our government about
"first and second generation" status.....but the result is the same:
Kimberly Guilfoyle is NOT first generation, as she claimed.
Excerpt from U.S. Census bureau: READ CAREFULLY
" The first generation is composed of individuals who are foreign-born.
The second generation refers to those with at least one foreign-born parent."
= Guilfoyle is SECOND GENERATION
Source: https://tinyurl.com/yxtkqtpf
Corroborating that is this article: READ CAREFULLY
According to the United States Census Bureau, first-generation immigrants
are the first foreign-born family members to gain citizenship or
permanent residency in the country.1
According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary...first generation can refer to
a person born in the U.S. to immigrant parents or a naturalized American citizen.
(note the plural use of the word parents....so first gen does NOT apply to Guilfoyle)
The U.S. government generally accepts the definition that
the first member of a family to acquire citizenship or permanent resident
status qualifies as the family’s first generation.
(that would be Guilfoyle's Mom...so regardless where her father was born,
the first member of a family (her Mom) to acquire citizenship, *is* 1st generation,
meaning her daughter Kimberly Guilfoyle *is* 2nd generation)
= Guilfoyle is SECOND GENERATION
