the largest EMERGENCY: FENTANYL. There is enough fentanyl to kill our entire population being smuggled across the border. They have seized such amounts already. THIS IS AN EMERGENCY situation, and it is a form of chemical warfare. The enemy is not armed so conventional armies do not work. The wall would prevent open smuggling areas, and assist the border patrol in preventing fentanyl (ane many other drugs) from filtering past known open border areas.
Keyelement is right. Pentagon doesn't recognize southern border as a national security priority. US and Mexico aren't at war. Dubious to claim invasion by common caravans consisting of unarmed families with children walking by foot for weeks. Trump uses military as a political stunt to mislead the public. Waste of taxpayers money because troops can only do very little. Law limits military to support of border officials. For examples, transportation, medical care or repair of fence. Military cannot detain or deport migrants.

Trump's wall won't stop drug trade according to factcheck.org and Brookings institution. Most drugs are hidden inside vehicles and enter US through official ports with existing barriers. Improved technology would be more effective in detecting drugs.
