Just as wealth hit a record high during the second quarter, credit card debt surpassed $1 trillion for the first time ever, the New York Federal Reserve found.

@KellyM_1964
Of course! Optimism is a far better trait than pessimism.
Look at our markets. Real estate is said to be one of if not the heaviest contributor to inflation. Sure, it's tough if one is searching for a home. But on the other hand, by contrast, while it's tough for buyers the other side of every deal suggests it's GREAT FOR SELLERS! On top of that since I am staying in my home (lovely, thank you) with interest rates rising so is my equity. Plus, my savings and investments are rising too! Therefore it is not a net bad thing. If anything it's a net good thing!
But obviously not for everyone. For example, because of the COVID disaster that Trump and the republicans allowed to infest the country without any meaningful measures to mitigate, the 20 million Americans thrown out of work because of the mismangement and millions of other hard working Americans were forced into increasing debt loads including credit cards.
Point is, because it is a struggle for some and they may feel pessimistic, that does not hold true for others.

@KellyM_1964 It would be smarter if you two werent playing games as you are, it is quite obvious. No need to act like there are only a few of you posting and ignoring other direct comments. It would be better if you just did not reply rather than keep at the same bump and thump scheme you guys are doing.

A few key pts from today's WH news conference... President Biden admin:- has capped the cost of insulin at $35/month!- will cap the total prescription drug costs at $2,000/yr!- enabled Medicare to negotiate to lower prescription costs!

Potentially billions of dollars in savings for patients if medicare can negotiate lower drug prices. Problem is companies fighting back with lawsuits to protect their profits. One reason why US has the most unaffordable healthcare system in the world is that industry can get away with charging high prices. Healthcare industry is among the richest and most powerful lobby groups in the US. In other countries, only government intervention kept prices low to benefit patients over industry. Sick patients cannot be expected to pressure industry.
@thirdperson
big pharma and allies can tie litigation up in court literally for years
how does that help the american people ?????

Rising gas prices haven’t taken their toll on the American consumer just yet, amid growing optimism that inflation is easing, according to the latest consumer sentiment survey from the University of Michigan.
The university’s latest consumer survey released Friday showed that Americans’ expectation of inflation rates in the year ahead fell to a 3.1% rate in September, down from 3.5% in the prior month, marking “the lowest since March 2021 and just above the 2.3-3.0% range seen in the two years prior to the pandemic,” according to a statement.
Meanwhile, inflation expectations in the next five to 10 years dropped to a 2.7% rate, “falling below the narrow 2.9-3.1% range for only the second time in the last 26 months.”
That’s welcome news for the Federal Reserve, which is closely monitoring Americans’ views and expectations on inflation

Fueled by a resurgent stock market and rising home values, US household wealth hit a *RECORD* $154.3 trillion during the 2nd quarter of this year, according to federal data!!
Household wealth now stands about $2 trillion ABOVE the prior record of $152 trillion set in early 2022 — also under President Joe Biden & the Democrats.
CNN article continued... Consumer wealth has now completely recovered from the recent inflation-driven drop in stock prices and real estate holdings!
Household and nonprofit net wealth increased by $5.5 trillion, or 4%, between the end of March and the end of June, Federal Reserve data released on Friday showed. This follows an increase of $3 trillion during the first three months of the year. The data is not adjusted for inflation.

I don't always claim to be wealthy, but when I do, I make sure to max out my credit cards and claim that debt as wealth
Fubduh, Kelly, and third, would you like to info this thread on the GDP to US debt ratio as of today? And then would you like to show the numbers from Obama's years?

Whether it’s a Ponzi scheme or advertisers marking down 3.99 on a bag of chips when it’s basically 4 dollars or my friend back in school “ Big Rob “ telling Sheila the Tramp that he was nine inches of stiff salami in order to get her into the back of his Chevy Nova . She busted out the door cracking up and laughing 2 minutes later remarking that he had “ half a Snickers bar “ but she went through it anyway cuz you’re not you when you’re horny ya dig ?

The Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected an emergency bid from Alabama, setting the stage for a new congressional map likely to include a second Black majority district to account for the state’s 27% Black population.
The one-line order reflects that the feelings on the court haven’t changed since June when a 5-4 Supreme Court affirmed a lower court that had ordered the state to redraw its seven-seat congressional map to include a second majority-Black district.
The changing makeup of the districts is likely to mean the state will pick up a new Democratic member of Congress.

Allowing partisan state government to determine electoral maps is a recipe for unfair gerrymandering to benefit one party at the expense of democracy. Problem in majority being under represented in government or minority over represented. Better to have nonpartisan group draw maps.

Agreed! Applies to both sides.
But to date the republicans have been more virulent in their efforts.

The Union Auto Workers’s (UAW) lead negotiator in contract talks with General Motors slammed former President Trump:
In a letter first sent to the Detroit Free Press, UAW Vice President for General Motors Mike Booth wrote, “Let me be blunt, Donald Trump is coming off as a pompous asshole. Coming to Michigan to speak at a NONunion employer and pretending it has anything to do with our fight at the Big Three is just more verbal diarrhea from the former president.”
The letter, later shared by the UAW with The Hill, comes just hours before Trump is expected to hold a rally at a NONunion plant
