@Rush51 Congratulations, you have to be the most selfish pompous prick in this forum. With you, it's always "how is this going to affect me?" Instead, you should think of the greater good. So you'll have to pay a little more for your new KIA. Tough shit!
the left and centrists all over the world make every effort usually to think and do for the greater good even if it might mean some inconvenience or even modest difficulty for them
many on the right do as well sure but from my experience not the majority of them for those it is almost always "wiifm and if nothing then i wont do a damn thing for anyone else" i find that philosophy (whomever it is not necessarily anyone here) repugnant inside a society these days

Wages are not based on productivity/efficiency but rather company profit. You can be the most productive on a team but you are not immune to the Grim Reaper who appears from time to time in any organization. You are so wrong on many different levels. Here's a synopsis of my career in the TECHNOLOGY industry. Hopefully, you'll understand my stance on the workplace....
After returning from NAM, I was lost & took a job working in a neighborhood deli making sandwhiches & stocking shelves/coolers. A part-time co-worker recommended me to a major credit card company & I started in the mailroom making a C-note a week. Big money back in 73. 6 months later I was promoted into the Data Center Computer Room working the graveyard shift which paid a 15% night shift differential. 2 years later I was promoted to Shift Manager & 2 years after that my company relocated all data processing to South Florida. A promotion to Director enticed me to make the move. After 2 years in Florida, 25% of the managment team was canned & I was an out of work, ex veteran with no college credits. The rise was swift but the fall was swifter. The company realized we had trained our own replacements with SOUTH FLORIDA SALARIES REPLACING THE SALARIES OF FORMER NEW YORKERS. Instant cost Savings, right? I was 28 at the time.
I had a contact in the HR department of IBM & she was aware of my technology, management & communication skills. I was offered a position with a company in the mid-west which meant moving my wife & kids out of Florida. If it was a good match, I was to be promoted to VP of Data Services after a year. It was a good match that allowed me to retire back to Florida at the age of 55.
I remember my first challenge with this new company was to hire capable, dependable field technicians across the country responsible for reparing equipment & loading software & installing LAN's. There was no such thing as the Internet at that time. But the company had 72 open position across the country & their recruiting was absolutley awful. I quickly realized the discrepency in salaries where someone in Cali was being paid the same as a tech in Baton Rogue. See, the problem?
There wasn't any geographical salary difference because the company was paying mid-west salaries which were significantly lower than other major cities. I had the HR department perform a geographical salary survey for specific skills/talents. While this was taking place, I visited Regional VP's & explained what I was doing to fill the positions & I needed their buy-in to offer reasonable compensation for the services provided. When I presented my finding to my boss along with the RVP's approvals, it was a piece of cake filling the position with talented technicians.
So I've been at the bottom & the top in my career & now I play the "bad guy" when my wife needs help with her Property Management company. Happy employees are productive employees Making sure employees understand our role in the big picture of ensuring the company profitability is essential. Understanding how each applications work (sales, inventory, reservations etc) is critical when resolving/identifying problems whether it be a user error or technical issue. Documenting difficult resolutions in our database resulted in $250 monthly bonuses for technicians.
So to end this, you are no match for me regarding knowledge of the employee/management/owner dynamic. You still are a selfish prick in our "what about me" world.

When I retired, I took the time to get my college degree in Computer Science. I did so because of a promise I made to my wife that instead of just gambling & fishing, I would get my degree. I graduated from FAU at the age of 62.

Oh yeah, one last thing.

The UAW getting concessions from the BIG 3 auto companies had a ripple effect throughout the industry which I didn't see reported in the media or business channels. Hyundai, Nissan, Honda, Toyota, and VW announced raises for their non-union factory workers. It proves how vital organized labor is in our society. Will the companies find creative ways to increase the cost of their product, sure. But the additional cost will be levied by all auto companies where price is not necessarily the dominant factor in making a sale.
I find it hilarious that Trump's China tariffs, that saved thousands of union jobs, was reported as "COSTING AMERICANS BILLIONS!!!" and the UAW gets big raises and it's RUSH51 YOU SELFISH POMPOUS PRICK for complaining it will cost Americans billions!!!

And yet Biden left those horrible tariffs in place.
Seven major groups representing steel producers and workers are urging President Biden to keep tariffs on foreign steel that former President Trump enacted intact.
The tariffs have been a success, allowing our industry to restart idled mills, rehire laid-off workers and invest in the future,” they added.

Since wages are rising, this Thanksgiving dinner is the 4th cheapest as a percentage of average earnings. Every year since 1986, American farm bureau has tracked the typical cost of a basket of Thanksgiving food, including turkey, potato, gravy, green peas, cranberries, stuffing and pumpkin pie. Current grocery inflation is at its lowest point in two years.
@thirdperson
thats a very positive fact i did not know thanks for bringing in positive news to this thread way too much negative crap and pure vitriol being flung around

For months you have been a loose cannon & I've lost all respect for you. You cry about everything wrong with our country but you don't have any solutions/ideas other than getting rid of Biden. The party you support can't even agree among themselves regarding our country moving forward.
We were up in your neck of the woods recently & the road improvements all across the state are impressive because your roads are absolutley some of the worst. Infrastructure projects are taking place alll over the country while the POS you support promised these improvements but never produced them. Trump's tarriffs were a tax on the American consumer. Your state is dependant on the auto industry & you should be thankful an agreement was reached. Gas prices have also declined in Michigan but not a peep out of you about the reduction in price.
You're no longer a credible poster in this forum & your objectivity is non-existant. It's sad to see because we had some good interaction in the past.

You should just stay out of this.

I'm not sure why it's necessary to submit your work history as if to impress. Hell, I was working at a fast food joint at age 15 . Fast forward a decade from there, I had an Engineering degree and worked in the tech industry for 3 decades.
I did just fine for myself, WORKING HARD AND MAKING MYSELF VALUABLE TO THE COMPANIES I WORKED FOR BY BEING VERY PRODUCTIVE. You don't need a fucking union when your job skill is in demand. Read that again.... Learn a trade, get a good degree that is valuable to employers.. It's too good damn bad you waited until you were retired to GET A COMPUTER SCIENCE DEGREE. Wtf ? You would have been far valuable to employers had you this " wisdom" after serving the country..
So, don't blame me for your circuitous route that led to hardship, layoffs. You didn't learn that valuable trade skill until you were retired .. not too smart
You think you know more about this , but here I am reminding you that it was barely 15 years ago that the UAW bankrupted GM and Chrysler. Remember that 'ol man ? That's right, auto workers were making over $100k when health benefits and pension were included. Remember ? Now, does that make any sense to you ? Clearly, the VALUE of those workers wasn't near that level, and the company goes into hardship, and eventual BK. See how that goes ??? Also, you didn't answer any of the damn questions I had for you on the UAW , because you don't have them..
Final point, Don't lecture me and give me your life work history as if it proves your " knowledge" . It doesn't prove anything other than a very " personal" example of someone's work experience and challenges.. I encourage you to do some deep reading on different economists, read perspectives of different individuals to expand that mind of yours to educate yourself on the subject..

Seriously, who the hell do you think you are trying to tell another member to stay out.
The person that should be staying out is "" you "". Whatever happened to that self-imposed ban ??
You are clearly not a man of your word. That much is certain !!

The arsonist put out the fire? Let's all cheer the arsonist.
Loose cannon is calling someone a "selfish pompous prick". The only reason I'm here.
And I have plenty of ideas;
#1 Secure the damn border and legal immigrants can enter.
#2. Enforce the fucking laws and put law breaking a-holes behind bars.
#3. Stop spending money like it grows on trees.
#4. Less government is best government.
#5. Energy is strength. Stop this insane we're all gonna die in 5 years we if don't all use electric cars.
#6. Have a decisive foreign policy, not appeasement. Treat our adversaries with intellegent respect not condemnation from the start! That = wars.
The UAW agreement is a tax on America. And I have no problem with them getting rid of the two-teir wage system. Back when the UAW agreed to that they sold out their future members. Stellantis shut down a night shift in 2022 because of chronic absenteism. People just not going to work. That's a problem we all pay for.

US Gasoline Prices Fall for 60 Straight Days in Win for US Holiday Spending
(Bloomberg) -- Gasoline prices have fallen for 60 consecutive days — the longest streak of declines in more than a year — letting American drivers pass on savings at the pump to consumer retailers during the US economy’s all-important holiday season.
A gallon of gasoline now costs $3.25 on average, more than 60 cents below the year’s peak in mid-September and about 30 cents cheaper than this time last year, according to data from the American Automobile Association.

@Rush51 First of all, I was responding to you but UNIMAN felt he had to come to your aid when he should have minded his own business. Secondly, I took a self imposed absence from this forum until I couldn't stand the bullshit from people like you that wasn't going addressed. Lastly, you are a selfish prick that cares only about yourself.
