President Biden to announce new sanction package on Russia

(CNN) The US will announce new sanctions on Russia Wednesday in coordination with Group of 7 nations and the European Union, according to an administration official.
The official said the sweeping package "will impose significant costs on Russia and send it further down the road of economic, financial, and technological isolation."

the group of 7 used to be the group of 8 which included russia , until putin invaded ukraine the first time

 Apparently you missed the new that matters.  Russia and China Alliance.

The new sanctions package will ban all new investment in Russia, increase sanctions on financial institutions and state-owned enterprises in Russia, and sanction Russian government officials and their family members.

The new sanctions package will mark the latest escalation in efforts by the US and its allies to impose costs on Russia for its invasion and, over time, cut off critical economic sectors the country utilizes to wage the ongoing war.

 This alliance is symbolic & anti-American. Xi is not going to materially support a loser such as Russia. The people in both countries are imprisoned when speaking out & they have that in common as well.  

China hasn't been actively involved, So what makes you think their posture will change?

Sweden, Denmark, Italy and Spain announced separately Tuesday that they will expel dozens of Russian diplomats following similar expulsions from other European Union countries.

Why it matters:

Several EU members, including Germany and France, have now announced Russian dismissals after evidence surfaced of atrocities in the Ukrainian town of Bucha in the wake of Russia's military withdrawal from northern Ukraine.

Italy said it expelled 30 Russian diplomats, while Spain said it will order 25 to leave, Denmark 15 and Sweden three.
All four countries said the diplomats were either not acting in accordance with international rules or pose a national security threat to their governments.

The official added, "We had already concluded that Russia committed war crimes in Ukraine, and the information from Bucha appears to show further evidence of war crimes. And as the President said, we will work with the world to ensure there is full accountability for these crimes. One of those tools is sanctions -- and we have been working intensively with our European allies on further sanctions."

The big picture:

The reported killings of civilians in Bucha — some with their hands tied behind their backs — by Russian forces have prompted vows of new sanctions against Russia from both President Biden and European Union leaders.

Russia's defense ministry [praised by trump and other rw advocates] rejected the accusations, saying no civilians were injured or killed while its soldiers controlled the town.

How many times since WWII has the UN voted ALMOST UNANIMOUSLY to condemn the USA for use of military force anywhere in the world, like the UN has done against Russia's invasion of Ukraine?

The EU and G7 have voted the same as the UN.   This is simply TOTAL condemnation of the use of force.

We are no angels but I seriously can't remember an overwhelming majority of world nations expressing near unanimous condemnation of any US actions believed at the time to have just cause.    Only GWBush's war in Iraq might come the close.

But some people insist on comparing apples to bananas and implying they are the same.
