I agree with that part. But the premise is faulty to me. For example, wacko far-right groups tend to support Conservatives by default -- because Liberal policies are seen by them as catering or preferential. But FAR more normal folks support Conservatives simply because they feel the policies are best for the individual and the country as a whole.
So, you cannot out-of-hand assume all or even a large minority are of a racist mindset.

Watching President Trump's State of the Union speech, I thought, "This destroys Democrats', Hollywood's, and fake news media's lie that Trump is racist." And yet, I knew that these leftists would continue their evil, divisive Trump-is-racist deception.
Trump’s flaws are many, but using race as a wedge issue is hardly exclusive to him or Republicans. Democrats have created divisions over race for decades, casually calling Republicans “racists” and deliberately generating as much fear and loathing as possible among minority constituents toward the GOP.
