Georgia nurse alleges ICE is performing mass hysterectomy on detained women.
On Tuesday evening, a harrowing report surfaced after a nurse in Georgia, Dawn Wooten, accused Immigrant and Customs Enforcement officials at the Irwin County Detention Center of denying detainees there essential health care and sending women to a doctor who allegedly performed unnecessary “mass hysterectomies.”
A nurse who worked at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention center in Irwin County, Georgia and four lawyers representing clients there are claiming that immigrant women are routinely being sent to a gynecologist who has left them bruised and performed unnecessary procedures, including hysterectomies.
The doctor, who three lawyers identified as Dr. Mahendra Amin, practicing in Douglas, Georgia, has continued to see women from the Irwin County Detention Center for the past several years despite complaints from his patients.

The most disgusting hypocritical thing I habe ever heard of from a Republican led agency. On one side of their face they confirm Kavanaugh champion the unborn and anti abortion unborn rights. Then this they remove child uterus to never able to conceive....
Thank veronica2 in the box she is hard to understand but at times it just to hard to say.

Greatness is achieved when different points of view are expressed and allow compromise republics flourish in this concept.
But as civilization progresses alpha don terms conflict with we the people attitudes. To I am the one desires. And kings dictators rise to power under a cloak of we soon achieved an important position then with power corrupts the presidency will absolutely corrupt and the great thinkers who founded this nation understood this.
Why we elect a president not a king how we have power divided to the three branches . Why we gave such authority in such a limited terms with elections to Protect this nation from undueing itself.
Republican party as a whole was not made of yes men but individual conservatives who take responsibility for their actions. This once known will destroy Trumps presidency. We the people must be vigilant about opposing tyranny.
To do this to women and obviously same is being done to men who are here "Illegally" is evil. As most with Hispanic Roman Catholic beliefs who won't take birth control. Or support abortions
Is as cruel as I have seen any administration ever commit to people wishing to work mostly in low skill agricultural and house keeping occupations.
I can now justify sanctuary cities states not working with Ice look what they did to these children of god.... this is vulgarity and an abomination in any civil society.
The Hispanic community is worried Castro practices will be done here if Biden a fellow Catholic obtained office???? Look at what is being done with this monster reign for 4 years....
I would love to see Marco or Collins members of Senate's homeland security computer justify this behavior in federal holding facilities....

Evil is evil.
It doesn't have a party affiliation.
A simple way to discern is we or me.

Ms. Wooten said she was demoted from full-time to "as needed" when she questioned the lack of COVID-19 testing and PPE equipment.
"You would have masks and no gowns, or gowns and no masks, or maybe no face shields," she complained.
If detainees reported a fever, nurses would put them on over-the-counter cold medication for seven days without testing them for COVID-19, she said.
Wooten said the facility declined to use two rapid-testing COVID-19 machines that ICE purchased for $14,000 each. No medical staff had been trained on them and she saw the machines used only once.
Even more disturbing are allegations of forced hysterectomies at the facility. Wooten spoke little about the hysterectomy allegation during the news conference on Tuesday, instead, focusing on her concerns that the facility wasn’t testing detainees for COVID-19, that the detention center wasn’t being sanitized, and that little protective equipment was available for employees.
The doctor is not named in the complaint, but lawyers who represent women at the jail said their clients have been taken to a local gynecologist named Dr. Mahendra Amin. Scott Grubman, a lawyer for Amin, said in a statement that he was confident the doctor would be cleared of any wrongdoing. Amin was previously accused by state and federal authorities

Dr. Ada Rivera, medical director of the ICE Health Service Corps, said surgeries had been approved by ICE officials.
“To be clear, medical care decisions concerning detainees are made by medical personnel, not by law enforcement personnel,” Rivera said in the statement. “Detainees are afforded informed consent, and a medical procedure like a hysterectomy would never be performed against a detainee’s will.”

Leading Democrats are calling for an investigation into claims that immigrants held at a detention center in Georgia may be undergoing forced hysterectomies. In a whistleblower complaint filed Monday, a nurse alleged the Irwin County Detention Center performed questionable hysterectomies, refused to test detainees for COVID-19 and shredded medical records. A medical official in the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement released a statement saying only two women have been referred for hysterectomies from the facility since 2018. Wooten worked full-time as a licensed practical nurse at the immigration jail until July, when she was demoted. “If true, the appalling conditions described in the whistleblower complaint – including allegations of mass hysterectomies being performed on vulnerable immigrant women – are a staggering abuse of human rights,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said in a statement. Sure...unless when removing an ovary cyst, you remove the wrong ovary & have to perform surgery again to remove the infected ovary. This doctor has been accused of just this situation with a patient.
Bing! Bang! Boom! No more kids for you!

United States Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) today sent a letter to the US Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Inspector General requesting an immediate investigation into complaints by a whistleblower alleging horrific mistreatment of immigrant detainees under U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody at the Irwin County Detention Center in Ocilla, Georgia. The letter also urges the inspector general to investigate DHS leadership’s knowledge of these allegations and look into whether further instances of alleged mistreatment have occurred at other detention centers throughout the country.
Yesterday, several legal advocacy groups filed a whistleblower complaint on behalf of Dawn Wooten, a nurse employed at the Irwin County Detention Center. The complaint includes allegations of “medical neglect . . . including the refusal to test detained immigrants for COVID-19 who have been exposed to the virus and are symptomatic, shredding of medical requests submitted by detained immigrants, and fabricating medical records.” Alarmingly, the complaint also raises serious concerns “regarding the rate at which hysterectomies are performed on immigrant women” at the Irwin County Detention Center.
Additionally, when one immigrant detainee spoke to five different women at the facility, they discovered that all five women had hysterectomies and were given multiple different answers as to why the procedure was needed. One immigrant in the complaint even states that she was not properly anesthetized and heard the doctor admit that he mistakenly removed the wrong ovary, resulting in her inability to have children.

“This whistleblower complaint is stunning and, if true, paints a disturbing picture at the Irwin County Detention Center,” Booker wrote in the letter. “Given the serious nature of the complaint, I urge your office to immediately conduct a thorough in-person investigation of the Irwin County Detention Center—including in-person interviews with relevant witnesses following Centers for Disease Control and Prevention COVID-19 guidance—and to further investigate DHS leaderships’ knowledge of the allegations as well as their possible involvement in the abuses. Furthermore, I urge you to commence an investigation into whether the alleged complaints at the Irwin County Detention Center have occurred at other detention centers throughout the country.”
These allegations further highlight the need for Senator Booker and Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal’s (D-WA) Federal Immigrant Release for Safety and Security Together (FIRST) Act, introduced in April, which would move immigrants out of detention and halt immigration enforcement against people not deemed a significant public safety risk during the coronavirus public health emergency and future health emergencies.

I am writing to you regarding a horrific whistleblower complaint out of the Irwin County Detention Center detailing how the health and safety of immigrant detainees under U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody are being jeopardized. Specifically, these reports range from detainees not being given COVID-19 tests to female detainees being subject to hysterectomies at alarming rates.[1] I urge you to immediately investigate the allegations contained within the complaint and conduct a wider investigation of Department of Homeland Security (DHS) leadership to ascertain their knowledge and involvement in the alleged wrongdoing.
Yesterday, on Monday, September 14, 2020, several legal advocacy groups filed a whistleblower complaint on behalf of Dawn Wooten, a nurse employed at the Irwin County Detention Center. The complaint alleges, among other things, “medical neglect . . . including the refusal to test detained immigrants for COVID-19 who have been exposed to the virus and are symptomatic, shredding of medical requests submitted by detained immigrants, and fabricating medical records.” Alarmingly, the complaint also raises serious concerns “regarding the rate at which hysterectomies are performed on immigrant women” at the Irwin County Detention Center.
One immigrant detainee spoke to five different women at the facility who had hysterectomies between October 2019 and December 2019. The complaint further alleges that the women were confused as to why they needed the medical procedure. Ms. Wooten also confirmed that many of the women who received hysterectomies did not understand why the surgery was necessary. The whistleblower complaint notes how immigrant women were often given multiple different answers on why they needed the procedure and how non-Spanish speaking nurses obtained consent from the detainees “by simply googling Spanish.” One immigrant in the complaint said that she was not properly anesthetized and heard the doctor admit that he mistakenly removed the wrong ovary, resulting in her inability to have children.
This whistleblower complaint is stunning and, if true, paints a disturbing picture at the Irwin County Detention Center. In a written statement, ICE has said that it “takes all allegations seriously and defers to OIG regarding any potential investigation and/or results.”[3] Given the serious nature of the complaint, I urge your office to immediately conduct a thorough in-person investigation of the Irwin County Detention Center—including in-person interviews with relevant witnesses following Centers for Disease Control and Prevention COVID-19 guidance—and to further investigate DHS leaderships’ knowledge of the allegations as well as their possible involvement in the abuses. Furthermore, I urge you to commence an investigation into whether the alleged complaints at the Irwin County Detention Center have occurred at other detention centers throughout the country.
I appreciate your prompt attention to this matter.
