Biden admin announces completion of Afghanistan withdrawal
ending the 20 year war/occupation started under the Bush administration

The US military conducted the “largest non-combatant evacuation” in the military’s history over the past 18-day period starting on Aug.14, Gen. Frank McKenzie, the top general of US Central Command said on Monday.

In the 18 days, the US military evacuated 79,000 civilians from Hamid Karzai International Airport, he added.
That included 6,000 Americans and more than 73,000 third-country and Afghan civilians, McKenzie said.
"This last category includes Special Immigrant Visas, consular staff, at-risk Afghans and their families," he said.

“In total, US and coalition aircraft combined to evacuate more than 123,000 civilians which were all enabled by US military service members who were securing and operating the airfield,” Mckenzie explained.

Biden critics are mostly wrong.  Afghanistan problem is the result of 20 years of bad decisions.  Despite inheriting a mess, Biden has made the best of a difficult situation.  Tragically, some deaths and chaos are inevitable.  If anything, he deserves credit and not blame.  Americans should be proud of what US government and military have accomplished in past 2 weeks.  Getting out of Afghanistan is one of the most extraordinary logistical achievement in US military history.  Bottom line is that ending war is the right thing and long overdue.

Virginia removes Richmond's Robert E. Lee statue,

Workers harnessed the 12-ton statue and removed it from its 40-foot pedestal,eliciting cheers from hundreds watching. Some wore Black Lives Matter shirts and chanted “Na Na Na Hey hey hey, goodbye.”

They hugged and cried and celebrated the removal of the final Confederate memorial along Monument Avenue, which got its name from the parade of Confederate monuments along its path.

Republicans LOSE Recall vote in California

His ability to keep hold of the state in an off-year election with rules that could have allowed him to be replaced with someone garnering just 20% of the vote is likely to embolden Democrats. The first-term governor centered the race around several key issues that could be key in 2022: COVID-19 mandates, abortion, workers rights and former President Donald Trump.

Most candidates steered clear of early Republican attempts to discredit the election with unfounded claims of voter fraud, but Larry Elder had given the issue a wider platform.

In recent days, he'd suggested the results of the recall election could be skewed by unspecified “shenanigans,” echoing Trump’s baseless claims of voting fraud in his 2020 race with Biden. He refused multiple times to say he would accept the results of the race in various interviews.

Judges strike down North Carolina voter ID law,
citing its ‘discriminatory purpose’ against African Americans

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) —
North Carolina judges struck down the state’s latest
photo voter identification law on Friday, agreeing with
minority voters that Republicans rammed through rules
tainted by racial bias as a way to remain in power.

Two of the three trial judges declared the December 2018 law
is unconstitutional.
They said the law was rushed and intentionally discriminates
against Black voters, violating their equal protections.

The law “was motivated at least in part by an
unconstitutional intent to target African American voters,”
Superior Court Judges Michael O’Foghludha and
Vince Rozier wrote in their 102-page order.

It's harder to get a covid vaccine and passport then it is a gov't issued ID. But requiring a covid passport to enter a business (remember the vaccine doesn't mean you can not become infected or pass covid) is acceptable?!

I am not disagreeing with the decision, but I would be interested to see just how it was concluded photo ID is discriminatory to African Americans and/or minorities in general.

Certainly there are a LOT of states now effecting voting restrictions clearly aimed at making it more difficult for minorities to vote.

Michigan Gov. Whitmer announces
in-road wireless EV charging project

PONTIAC, Mich. — Today at the opening ceremony for Motor Bella,
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced that Michigan would
deploy wireless electric vehicle charging on the road.
This would allow EVs to charge while driving,
without having to stop to plug in at a charging station!

Whitmer said the state is looking for partners to help develop
and deploy the technology, but provided no other details.

In-road wireless charging could help solve problems with range anxiety,
as well as the headache of finding a working DC fast charger.

im all for this new tech !   i will purchase a new EV  when more EV charging stations r available and this new tech would b even better .  setting aside $50k for a new  EV vehicle hopefully by next summer

FORD is making its biggest single
manufacturing investment ever
- to build electric vehicle factories

Ford Motor Co. and South Korea-based energy company SK Innovations
are investing $11.4 billion to build two new enormous manufacturing campuses
for electric vehicles, creating about 11,000 new good-paying jobs and
representing Ford's largest-ever single manufacturing investment.

Ford's share of the investment will be $7 billion, Ford executives said.
Ford previously announced it will spend $30 billion by 2025 on its shift to
building more electric vehicles and that it expects 40% of its sales, worldwide,
to be fully electric vehicles by 2030.

The two sites, one in Kentucky and one in Tennessee, will employ a total
of a total of about 11,000 people, and between them, the sites will include
3 battery manufacturing plants and a factory to build electric pickup trucks.

Biden signs bill to avert government shutdown,
approves bill to fund government through Dec. 3

The House voted 254-175 to approve the bill that raced through both chambers in a few hours. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said the legislation would keep government services functioning, prevent furloughs for hundreds of thousands of workers and protect the economy.

“A shutdown is not anything anyone wants," Pelosi said.

The Senate had voted earlier 65-35 to approve the measure.
