I have a kiddo in high school right now and after school we discuss this and that, there was actually a new AP class this year and it is in this subject to a degree and we suggested to take the class if it was interesting and so here we are. I think an education is what the student and parents make of it..if the kiddo receives good solid advice, counsel and has an open means of discussion with their parents then if they hear something that is different in school they will come home an discuss it. Parents need to give leadership to their kids not rely on the education system to teach alone. If a kid knows it is ok to have their own opinions and question things, to critically think about what is being taught and know it is ok to disagree but be respectful and listen, then if in doubt come home and talk about it or research it themselves...these students will be BETTER for the process. I think a blanket analysis of something as you are suggesting is not the way to approach this. Sometimes there is an underlying concept or idea being discussed that has merit even if the author does a less than stellar job of bringing the point to the student. A strong well educated student is able to observe and conclude based on critical thinking if what they are hearing makes sense and if not then why it does not. Critical thinking and observation is something students need more of to succeed in the future.
