Tea Party candidate gets crushed by Duck Dynasty
If everyone just adopted the Duck Dynasty attitude of a fervent religious attitude and grew long beards we would be a Christian version of Saudi Arabia.
"However, I would never treat anyone with disrespect just because they are different from me. We are all created by the Almighty and like Him, I love all of humanity. We would all be better off if we loved God and loved each other.”
Show me any Muslim or Saudi with that perspective.

Muslims would say that same thing as they are trying to convert you to their way of thinking and beliefs. Phil loves all of humanity yet thinks a portion that don't agree with his ancient way of thinking will spend eternity in an imaginary hell. He would never treat anyone with disrespect but compares those that don't share his beliefs in sex are the same as people who committ beastiality.
Amazing how he his supporters complain about A&E yet has no problem believing others will spend eternity in hell which is a worst case scenario for his beliefs, because they don't follow along his line of thinking. How loving of him.
I suggest watching Yousef Estes on youtube or any street "Dawa" I believe they call it. It all sounds about the same. We love everyone and God loves everyone and our way is the truth way and blah, blah, blah.
Cano,
I have no problem with him saying what he said, those are his beliefs and he is entitled to them. I have a problem with anyone whining about A&E suspending him/the program for it. If he wants to express beliefs about others lifestyles in accordance to his biblical beliefs than perhaps he should join the other nut jobs over at Trinity Broadcasting Network or another Christian friendly channel. Instead of commercials he can just solicit donations too.

LoL, I am watching Trinity broadcasting right now with my daughter, veggie tales. Great show.
I am not concerned with how Phil Robertson sees the bible. I think that he and his family have created a great depiction of Christianity on television for mass consumption, and it has been wildly successful. His statements taint that. I don't think he is a bad man or "hates" anyone. I think his views are antiquated, and while supported in the bible, I do not think that homosexuality was front and center in Jesus teachings.
Phil has said many many times that you don't hate the sinner etc. He has stated that he has love for everyone and would never discriminate against someone that is different from him, but for some reason he appears to be taking a stand against homosexuality. If you would watch this video about how he came to God, you would see that he is a deeply flawed human being https://www.iamsecond.com/seconds/the-robertsons/
Either way. I understand why people hate him now. I understand why A&E kicked him to the curb, and I understand why the family is choosing not to continue the most successful reality franchise in recent history. Money isn't everything. IF anything I guess it is really good as a lesson of people sticking to their morals on both sides.
A&E is holding to their ideals of suppression of what they view as hateful speech. It is their right. It is their network.
The Duck Crew, (while I don't think they all agree with Phil) will choose to stand by their patriarch, and walk away, and they will probably enjoy success in a much smaller Christian network.

it's still somewhat ok to say hateful garbage about happy people to the extent that rightwingers will come flocking to his defense, but it's not really that cool to say bad garbage about black people. when we get to the point where it's not cool to say hateful garbage about black people and happy people, i'm not sure what rightwingers will do then. issa and cruz should hold a congressional hearing on that to get ready.

I just find it somewhat hypocritical that Christians, not just Phil either, maintain this belief that they love everyone yet have no problem condemning the lifestyles of those they don't agree with. That old hate the sin not the sinner attitude. Especially when it comes from a topic that really has no affect on Phil either i.e. homosexual lifestyles.

it's like these criminals i deal with constantly. they've molested kids or done some really bad garbage and just say well god is my real judge or god loves me and they expect that to just erase everything. nuts.

didn't the dude also said something along the lines of black people singing and happier under the jim crow laws (at least the ones who weren't lynched, beaten and raped)? a&e probably got a letter or two about that as well.

Read the article.
"Where we lived was all farmers. The blacks worked for the farmers," he explained. "I hoed cotton with them. I'm with the blacks, because we're white trash. We're going across the field … They're singing and happy."
In his recollection, the racism that reportedly occurred between the end of slavery in 1865 and the start of the Civil Rights Movement in the late 1940s just didn't appear to be in existence in the area where he grew up.
"I never heard one of them, one black person, say, 'I tell you what: These doggone white people' -- not a word!" he said. "Pre-entitlement, pre-welfare, you say: Were they happy? They were godly; they were happy; no one was singing the blues."
He is speaking from his experience ,but of course people will take his words out of context and say that he is a Jim Crowe denier or something.

It somewhat reminds me of the big business vs unions debate that often takes place in this forum. I understand both sides and where they are coming from. Nothing wrong with either side standing up for themselves either. Phil is entitled to his beliefs and A&E is a business that would rather not offend some of its veiwership and potentially lose revenue from advertisers.

Christians are not condemning anyone to hell, not even possible for any Christian to Judge someone to damnation. It isn't how it works, as much as the Westboro Baptist church would like to change that. Those are the facts.
Some Christians believe that God sees Homosexuality as a mortal sin. I am not in that group, and think that if Homosexuality is a sin it is more akin to drinking, gambling or sleeping with numerous women of which I am guilty of all 3.
We all fall short of the glory of God, and true Christians need to remember that we are not man's judge etc.
I think that phil is in the camp that believes that he has a duty to inform people of their sins in an attempt to "save them" from the wages of their sin. I am not in the crowd that thinks this is correct, but understand that he is doing it, for the most part, out of love.
Sounds weird, and I don't defend it.

I didn't want Martin Bashir fired for what he said about Sarah Palin because I want conservatives to have the freedom to say whatever they want about any liberal individual or group.
Just like when some talk about Crazy Christians or Crazy Rednecks others should be given the freedom to talk about group A or Group B.
Remember, Freedom of Speech wasn't created to protect speech you agree with. It was created to protect speech you disagree with.

So I'm a wacko nutjob because I state the obvious and measure your actions greater than your words?
Your actions are what gets you labeled a liberal. You defend far too many libs on this site and berate conservative thought.
You have beefs in here with mostly conservatives....like 9 out of 10.
If you had beefs with mostly liberals on this site then I would of course not try to label you as a liberal....I would look like a wacko nutjob if I did that.
Thankfully, for my own credibility...I am not even close to the only person on here to label you a liberal. Not even close.

Freedom of speech can only protect you from the goobermint. It can't be afforded to private companies.
If you had an employee that wanted to run his mouth he could ruin your company.

As Bowlslit said
, would you want one of your employees making statements that could damage your business? Of course they can do so without facing prosecution, but you want a law that prevents you from firing or suspending them?

Have you ever seen a commentary on a show, or an infomercial, where the network puts up the disclaimer "The views expressed by XYZ do not represent the views of the network." That's all A&E had to do.
Saying that, I believe A&E had every right to fire him. Just like companies should have the right to fire anyone. The problem is they didn't suspend him for his comments. They are suspending him because of the sh*t storm this GQ interview caused. They knew he felt that way. There are Youtube videos that have been out there for years.
This is going to set a precedent no one wants. If I don't like something someone says on Facebook or Covers I can call that employees company, say I'm offended, and demand he or she be fired. Then the tug of war ensues. Group A says they are going to boycott the company if they don't get rid of the employee. Group B says they are going to boycott the company if they do get rid of the employee.

here's a quote from the article (i did not watch the video in case that quote isn't about the gays and abc took it out of context (it could be about black people instead (admit it rick, you thought that was funny)):
"They're full of murder, envy, strife, hatred. They are insolent, arrogant, God-haters. They are heartless, they are faithless, they are senseless, they are ruthless. They invent ways of doing evil."
is it the gays full of hate and strike or Republican Jesus followers?

Wouldn't come down to what's spelled out in their contract to what G@y& E can do ?
maybe. i assume most networks have a clause in the contract that if the employee does something like this that the network thinks will hurt business, they can suspend or fire him. if so, probably nothing he can do. but if not, believe it or not, a lot of states have employment laws that are very favorable to the corporation and allow a corporation to fire a person for any reason other than race, gender, religion and possibly sexual orientation in some states. i'm sure he has a contract that spells out what a&e can and cannot do but if he didn't, he still might be sol.
