Our government is not shut down because of this wall.
Our government is not allowed to borrow any more money till the National debt ceiling should be called an adjustable wrench at this point has not been raised and we spent to much money. unless our debt limit is raised we flat broke

Trump does not need congressional approval , he has executive action and unless it is directly against specific legislation he can order army corp of engineers 133rd and 136th battalions to build the structure. Trump is angling for a larger budget compromise.

President Donald Trump says he will make a major announcement on the government shutdown and the southern border on Saturday afternoon from the White House.
Trump and Democrats in Congress remain far apart over Trump's insistence on funding for a wall along the Mexican border as the price of reopening the government.
The two sides have traded taunts and avoided talks so far this week. Trump says the announcement will take place at 3 p.m. He says the announcement involves "the Humanitarian Crisis on our Southern Border."
The political stakes are high as the shutdown moves into a fifth week, with hundreds of thousands of federal workers going without pay and no outward signs of resolution

Yeah sure, that would be a great decision. Use our military to build his farking wall. Don't you realize how assine that is? The lawsuits alone would tie up this ridiculous idea for years not even regarding the eminent domain concerns.

ok say you have eminent domain concerns.
USA land use regulatory authority manages the land the USA government owns most of the rural border anyway.
what it actually does not own it can re annex how we ended up with southwest in the first place.
we removed it from Spanish-Mexico and allowed Texas to Join but never leave this Union of States.
I am sure their is some indigenous creature that is on the verge of extinction in that desert area ,
and over the next two years of environmental group research they will find it that will halt the progress of this fence.
but for the next couple years we have other matters to attend to and courts can take decades.
Is the President the Commander in Chief then if a captain is god on a ship
The President of the United states sitting in the Oval Office is
in charge of the worlds most destructive military force of this planet in our time.

so if our military is preoccupied building a wall , This is not quite beating swords to plow shares ,
but I will take it as a step in the right direction.

Right direction?
I believe a wall is preposterous & the public will not allow this to happen. We can agree to disagree on the subject.
I'm going back to capping college basketball.

I believe I asked long ago about tunneling. 376 immigrants at one point and 200+ at another yesterday. So, what do we do? Build the wall and then come back for another 10 billion or so for fully wired ground vibration instruments so that at least we know where they are tunneling? Then what? Crush the tunnels or use flamethrowers on those attempting to use them? Talk about a humanitarian crisis!
Through all of the wall-no wall debate the only thing I don't see is a realistic solution to the real problem - Poverty in Latin America. The imposition of trade restrictions only exacerbates that problem. No more fruit and vegetable produce or cheap clothing because we brought those jobs home to offset the trade deficit?
As for the drug problem, with all it's cartels and gang violence involved, the real problem there is that WE, The good old USA, supply the MARKET for all those illicit drugs. If there were no market the drug lords would be unemployed. That situation is comparable to to Prohibition and we all know how successful that was.
I don't have all the answers and neither does Trump, the Democrats, or any member of this forum, but at least we should be paying attention to the ROOT CAUSES of the problems.
Reactionaries that think we can close our borders, secure all wealth to ourselves, and ignore the balance of the world, have obviously never read Churchill on the subject of The American Century. It is all coming home to roost but Churchill is now regarded as just another old fogy dead Englishman.
Furthermore; the concept of pulling out of NATO, Afghanistan, Syria and any other hot spots is not going to work. As FDR new; if you abandon the English and Russians before WWII, Germany and Japan will win, then in ten years when they are far stronger, we will have to fight them by ourselves. Abandoning Europe and Asia will put us in the same position versus Russia and China. Being the policeman of the free world is costly and frustrating, but we have no choice. Reactionaries and isolationists are only kidding themselves, or attempting to delay the inevitable until their own lives have past. That sure is looking after the future of our kids, right?
