Rev. Al Sharpton argued that the fight to legalize marijuana is the next
civil rights ...........
Sharpton, said it’s crucial to decriminalize
marijuana because laws against it have oppressed minorities over the
years, making it difficult for them to get good educations and other
opportunities.
Sharpton continues..."generations of Americans, overwhelmingly people of color, have been
imprisoned and starved of access to higher education, housing, and
economic opportunities, and stripped of their inalienable right to vote
thanks to non-violent acts.”
Rev.Sharpton said the plan to fight marijuana laws would free the next
generation of minorities from the “oppression” that their parents faced
due to marijuana laws.
A lot of stereotyping of blacks going on here AL..This man is a complete embarrassment to "the cause.".

A couple months ago,,Al Sharpton called for more minorities to be involved in the
legal marijuana business...
Sharpton plans to show the ways that black people can get more involved in selling weed legally..
"I will challenge the cannabis industry and its distributors in states
where it is legal to support civil rights movements and ensure that we ( Blacks )
are not disproportionately excluded from business opportunities.”

I'm with Stu. I don't see what's wrong with this? Weed should be legalized at the federal level.
Well saying that ."generations of Americans, overwhelmingly people of color, have been
imprisoned and starved of access to higher education, housing, and
economic opportunities, and stripped of their inalienable right to vote
thanks to non-violent acts.”
= marijuana drug offenses...
Marijuana being illegal did not prevent them from getting an education etc. ...it was the using it that did.

I was under the impression blacks were/are well represented in the industry.
If you want to get involved in the industry, just do it. Not really a civil rights issue in my opinion. Sharpton is conflating several issues, it will resonate in the black community but fall on deaf ears outside of that.
Pretty simple to get involved if anyone really wanted to. The industry is just developing now, ground floor.

You can lose access to pell grants and student aid or possession/distribution. Not just for using it. So it isn't just "using it" that can affect someone's ability to go to get a higher education. If drug laws are enforced more predominately against minorities, than he has a point.
Why don't we have the same penalties for alcohol related offenses, even ones that lead to violence? Why do we treat marijuana worse than alcohol when, in reality, it really isn't any worse for health or societal purposes?
