Threats have doubled from 224 in 2021 to 457 in 2023.
There are sore losers and then there batshxt insane sociopaths who place themselves above the law and who will say or do anything to avoid being labeled a "Loser." Trump is a despicable monster who deserves to rot in prison for the insurrection and his responsibility for much of the COVID-19 death toll.
@DogbiteWilliams
I had a feeling the threats had increased since Trump but no idea they actually DOUBLED!

@Raiders22 Things get better when people get better, the things ARE people, there is no magic machine to make things better. My point as I stated it is that relaxing the rules does not mean crime is down, rather that prosecuted and jailed crime numbers are down I do not personally feel especially in my area that crime is down nor can you quantify WHY crime would be down. I do not see a catalyst or reasoning for crime to trend down because our inherent nature as humans has not changed and if anything I see a more regular and repeated trend of theft without recourse, many more vehicle crime and hit/run incidents that now go pretty much ignored than any time I can recall. I just do not see any sign of crime improving and I for sure am not a social media hawk, I would consider myself the opposite.
It really does not matter what you 'feel' or what anyone else feels. The numbers are what the numbers are.
You can simply look at the numbers reported if you do not want to acknowledge the prosecuted and jailed numbers -- because that is an entirely separate unit of measure anyway. In other words -- your argument SHOULD be that prosecuted or jailed crimes were not down -- NOT the crime rate itself.
A lot of times we see things and perceive them one way and make a link -- when there is not a link or something else is tied into it, when you actually study it.
For example, a much better indicator would be disparity of income -- that is the number one indicator of crime and not people's nature.
There are many studies you can look into if you want to see or understand the catalysts that they point to for the drop in the crime rate.

My contention is that the numbers are not the measure because the standards have been cut, police staffing is inefficient and crimes are not aggressively approached like in the past. So while numbers MIGHT seem to be improving that is the function of the change in approach to crime that cities have and the fact that crimes are not being captured and laws enforced. That is the aspect of what I am saying about FEEL, society does not FEEL safer even if reported numbers might be lower, I dont know if my local area is a hot spot or if other areas have the same staffing problems that we do down here. I have a good friend who has been a police officer in a different state and in an ultra conservative state I might add and he has been a copper for almost 20 years, works in the county sheriff department and is on patrol etc so not a desk job or an area out of the crime element...he feels the same that the police are not properly funded, they are under staffed and not equipped to handle the growing problems in society. He has said that say 10-15 years ago the stance on crime was much stronger that tolerance was less and if someone was responsible for a crime even if it is a small one or first time etc they would pursue it and follow the legal guidelines as that is their job. Now it is completely the opposite and his opinion is that the risk is too great for officers and that lowering standards, worrying about over population and not holding people responsible for crimes is an enormous burden on society and a huge risk to police officers. If criminals do not have respect for the law or think they have lower chances of being caught or punished that motivates the criminal to be more aggressive and take more risks.
My kiddo is dating a guy who on NY morning was driving home and was hit by a drunk driver, he does not drink and was completely safe and had no responsibility. Lucky for him he had installed a dash cam and had the full event recorded. The officer who came to the accident said that if he had not recorded the accident the odds were that the other driver would not have been issued a ticket and probably not been tested for DUI even though he had several in the past, that without strong evidence police are not being aggressive for crimes like hit and run or vehicle accidents, the approach that local police have seems to be more centered around VIOLENT crimes and they have only certain resources and do not pursue low to mid level crimes, they just do not have the ability to deal with all the issues with the police force they have and they prioritize based on largest social harm and NOT based on the law alone.

He is correct that the stance used to be much stronger. Yes, funding is an issue as well.
But by all measures that have always been used and are fairly consistent, the reports are in fact down.
You are correct that the stricter prosecutions, etc. are down. The recidivism is still what it is. So, those same folks are repeating more, etc.
But it is a symptom of the overall sentiment that is caused by the constant news that is broadcasting every single crime — whereas in the past you did not hear about every single crime as much.
I guarantee the Rightwing nuts would be making this a MAJOR campaign issue if the crime rate was actually up. Because it is not they have keyed in on other issues like the economy, inflation, illegals, government spending AND illegals committing crimes.
When was the last time you recall a campaign on the Right not constantly talking about the crime rate. It is because the crime rate is really down and they realize it and know it is not a key issue.
That is NOT to downplay the crime and say there is no room for constant improvement.
I certainly am for not ‘reclassifying’ crimes or lack of ‘punishment fitting the crime’ and things like that.
I think both are true: crime is down AND still more needs to be done about the crime that is happening.
Glad the kid is okay and had it recorded. Absolutely, DUI penalties should be stiffer and hit-and-runs. For sure, one of the big knocks is that the more violent crimes have been ‘prioritized’.
But the reporting by most measures I have looked into are pretty much the same — they have not been reclassified or restructured. Now what happens after that is an issue in a lot of places. I agree with you on that.

To answer your question, the reason why the right is not hammering the narrative is they have prioritized OTHER narratives as higher value, that is a fact. Trump is running your group now, seeing an unqualified wife of your kid running the group is all anyone needs to see. Trump runs the narrative and the narrative is HIM and HIS woes, HIS agendas and HIS personal crusade against those who are against him.
I dont see much of any political narratives like in the past, it used to be the same five or so and same for the DNC, but with Trump in charge the focus is on him and his cases his money raising efforts his family and he is your political party. There still is time once they start debating to see other topics but it is likely going to be the Trump show and maybe some illegals/border sprinkled in there only.

It's all a delay tactic. Distract and delay. Try to force the judge to recuse himself. It’s his only play in his playbook.

I am not sure it matters at all who the candidate is that much. Very, very few can make the folks care more about something than they really ought to.
Trump may have the perspicacity to key in on the issues more than most do -- even though his demeanor about it may be wanting -- but even he cannot set the narrative.
The narrative will always be set around what the folks care about. Then it is the candidate's job to key in on that. The media has tried that for years, with the fear tactic especially, about issues they want the voters to care about. But eventually they settle on generating more enthusiasm from their base on the issues they know the base cares about. Each side will have to try to do this more effectively to get the folks out to vote. These issues will often be different depending on the political leanings of the voters they are trying to sway. The Left just has a bit more advantage to try to emphasize their issues because they control the standard Media. But nowadays with social media and rightwing outlets the Right has found out the same thing.
So, I was not really referring to just the Presidential campaign -- but to nearly all of them coming up. If crime rates were up and the voters truly felt this way and were worried about it -- the Right, especially, would be making it more of a campaign issue. For sure Trump would be talking about it more if he felt it were an issue he could work.
NYT, I think, had a good article a while back about how the Right had been attempting to make it a campaign issue about a 'crime wave' that was not there, and it was not working.
Even down at the local levels it has not happened like it has happened in past campaigns in the cities that still lead in crime rates.
People simply have that down their list at 4th or 5th -- even if all political parties are grouped together. Certainly, this is not individualistic -- because if it has directly affected you and your family, it will be higher on your list.
But you would absolutely expect it to be a bigger part of the local elections where a sudden difference could be made -- but you do not, so far at least.
That is for a good reason.

Sorry but there is no way crime is down from what I see. A DEM can create a narrative that gives an outcome which validates a narrative, a REPUB can do the same for the same purpose. I also do not know why there is a need for dividing topics and threads which are subjective and inaccurate? Crime is not down I dont care what stat you whip up I do not buy it. When there is unrest and uncertainty crime goes up not down. I am also a believer that human nature creates crime and last I checked people are more selfish, divided, antagonistic and uncertain for a variety of reasons and a corrosive political environment. I'd like to see a large and visible a tangible difference in society that crime is down and outside the fact municipalities are so crammed full of cases and prisoners that they have relaxed the measure of what crime is I do not see a decrease in totality and I feel less safe and more at risk now that I have in my life.
I agree. The FBI has changed reporting requirements and many jurisdictiions failed to report. In Philly businesses hire assualt rifle carrying security because it takes two hours for police to respond to an ATM being ripped out of the ground. Many crimes go unreported because of lack of response.
We need to attack the addiction issue and not accept it as so many cities have done. Put money into the science of combatting those genes and their destructive tendencies not handing out clean needles. As a country we need to attack drug use, not legalize it.

When there is unrest and uncertainty crime goes up not down. I am also a believer that human nature creates crime and last I checked people are more selfish, divided, antagonistic and uncertain for a variety of reasons and a corrosive political environment. Road rage is an indicator of change in human behavior.
You see it all the time now. Years ago it was rarely seen. I was a victim of road rage recently. Looking for my turnoff in a strange town during the morning commute I pissed off a guy behind me by actually slowing to the speed limit. Guy passed me and hit the brakes several times. Sorry dude, and your braking making it easier for me to find my turn.

Yahoo reports that judge has expanded gag order against Trump in order to protect families. Attacking family members serve no legitimate purpose. Without evidence, Trump falsely claims judge is influenced by daughter and that she posted a photo of him behind bars on social media. No evidence Trump is treated unfairly by justice system. Actually, he is unfairly trashing the justice system and pretending to be a victim. His contempt for the law confirms that he is unfit to be president.
So what were the "attacks"? That the judges daughter used and profited from Trump's indictment? TRUE OR FALSE?
And that expanded gag order. To try to hide the fact the judge's wife worked for Lettia James? James ran for election vowing to get Donald Trump.
And you wonder why Trump is getting more voters every day?
Not too bright.

On MSNBC, Weissman say Trump desperate efforts to remove hush money judge are laughable. His frivolous attempts keep failing. State court ethics panel has determined no conflict of interest.

Obama’s first term was largely free of scandal references, his second term was defined by a steady stream of them.
In late 2011, Operation Fast & furious captured headlines, followed in April 2012 by the behavior of Secret Service personnel on an overseas trip. The June 2013 Edward Snowden led to almost twice as many mentions of scandal as any point in the Trump presidency. The May 2014 breaking of the VA health saw more mentions of Obama scandal than all but one month of the Trump presidency.
