Rush Limbaugh put forth an interesting hypothetical solution to immigration reform last week. A main reason that Republicans are opposed to granting amnesty to 11 million illegals is they are potentially giving Democrats 11 million new voters.
So Rush floated the idea of granting amnesty with the condition that they can't vote for 25 years from the time that they become a citizen. I can't speak to the legality of this but it was an interesting solution to a complex problem.
This is news to me. I can't stand Limbaugh, and have no respect for many of his views. I admit this is interesting, although it will never become a reality. Still interesting

The problem with trump was that he painted himself in a corner with such and extreme and absolute stance and that one of the only identifiable policies or proposals in getting all immigrants and Muslims out of the country and building a wall.
DL, as we learned earlier today, I do not always remember everything.
With that said, I don't recall Trump ever saying, or suggesting, that all immigrants and Muslims be deported. I'm pretty sure he was consistent in saying he would deport all illegals. Those are two entirely different things.
If he did say what you wrote, then once again I am mistaken, but I will need to see proof of it.
If he didn't say what you wrote, then you probably need to do a better job of avoiding untruths which do nothing but incite those of a varying opinion.
The other thing we have learned is that such tactics lead to arguing and name calling

Yeah me saying whites was intentional since the candidate who is bashing illegals so heavily is white...
Oh and down here in 107 degree PHX the local moron sheriff who tramples on the rights of hispanics both legal and illegal is a white old guy of course.
Point was that many in our society demonize hispanics and it is pretty disgusting...

While it is possible that Trumps disdain of illegals is racial in its origins, I can honestly say that had never crossed my mind before you just mentioned it.
Personally, I don't think race has anything to do with it.
For me, it is about laws/rules. We have laws/rules to follow to enter this country. If you don't follow those laws/rules, and you are found to be here illegally, then you should be deported.
IMO, Trumps views of illegals mirror mine. It is not about race, simply about laws/rules.
Again, it is possible that I'm wrong

I am not responsible for what others choose to post or how others choose to react. This is a key difference between me and others is the belief of personal accountability and responsibilty. That rather than blaming the gun and banning it, you hold the person who owns the gun or used it personally responsible for their actions.
The same thing can be said for the scape goating of minorities and I will use Hispanics as a an example. By blaming Hispanics as the source of crime and potraying them as sub-human is not about just hatred but because it allow people to blame another race for all the problems in the country and their own personal problems rather than taking personal responsibility and accountability for their lives.
And Hispanics are such an easy target because of the their cultural and linguistic differences to see them as different and separate and essentially sub-human. And with a Mexican border a simple minded person that wants to blame anyone and everything else for their problems can simply say the solution to the nation's problems is to send them south back to where they came from rather then address the complicated solutions and problems that our country faces and they face personally. Maybe they do this because they can't grasp reality. Maybe they just want to blame others rather than manning up taking personal responsibility. Maybe that's how they are raised and their core values. Not sure could be all or a combination.
But in the end While trump seems to resonate with racists and bigots with his rhetoric, I will agree with you that it is not a race issue with all of them. For many it is about not taking personal accountability and respsonsibility for their own lives and instead having a candidate that enables them in their scape goating as a way of making America great again.

DL, in an earlier post you wrote that one of Trump's only identifiable policies is getting all immigrants and Muslims out of the country.
I asked you to provide proof that he said that. Obviously, you did not because he did not.
Your response was to write ... "I am not responsible for what others choose to post or how others choose to react. This is a key difference between me and others is the belief of personal accountability and responsibilty"
That is well stated, and I agree wholeheartedly.
The issue is that you are responsible for what YOU post, and you should have personal accountability to not making blatantly false statements. In this case, you were neither responsible, nor accountable.
What you posted was a shameless untruth, and exceptionally inflammatory. Nothing more. Trump gives you enough ammo to ridicule him without resorting to making stuff up.
Let me emphasis that I am not attacking you, nor your views, so let's not get into a pissing match.
I am taking umbrage with what you wrote

Hugh......You are correct. We may call it different things.......softening, humane, course correction etc. And you are also completely correct about a hard line immigration stance not playing well in the general.I guess that leaves me with the following question: Why didn't Trump's competitors in the primary call for deportation forces also?..........especially if they knew that they could soften it up for the general election? It's more of a rhetorical question I guess.Regardless, tomorrow after his immigration speech we should have a better idea of where he is headed on the issue.
Hugh....Trump did not flip flop or soften on immigration. I thought he would. I think that I was wrong. Definitely no flip flop on deportations. I give Trump credit for keeping his word when it would have been very easy to soften on Deportation/amnesty.

That's correct Inyourlife16, so much for Trump going soft on immigration .After his triumphant trip to Mexico he stuck to a hard line on immigration and national security in Arizona today..Some of the strong statements he made..
"We are going to build a great wall along the southern wall, and Mexico
is going to pay for the wall. One hundred percent. They don't know it
yet." ....
"Our message is this: You cannot obtain legal status or become a citizen
of the United States by illegally entering our country,"
Trump made it clear there would be no path to legal status for undocumented immigrants in the US..No amnesty for illegal immigrants..
“We’re going to triple the number of ICE deportation
officers. Within ICE, I am going to create a new special deportation
task force, focused on identifying and quickly removing the most
dangerous criminal illegal immigrants in America, ,who have evaded
justice,(in a moment of levity he said ) just like Hillary Clinton has evaded justice, okay? Maybe
they’ll be able to deport her.”.................
That doesn't sound like softening to me ...lol .. looks like the media lied when they said Trump had flip flopped on immigration.

No backing down on amnesty for non criminals.........I was wrong and media was wrong. Trump totally had me fooled when he did that Hannity townhall last week and he looked like he was getting ready to modify on amnesty. It's safe to say that I would have lost that bet Slim.

I sorta had the same feeling about Trump after the Hannity townhall, but now I'm thinking it was just another genius ploy by Trump to bait the media ..and throw them off ,,because the speech I heard today was known by Trump way before the townhall..We are seeing that Trump is clever like a fox and should never be underestimated..

I was not able to watch his speech last night, but caught up this morning.
From what I gather, Trumps 10 point plan on immigration was solid, and most importantly, lawfully reasonable ... with the possible exception of maintaining that Mexico will pay for the wall.
It's comical that the MSM (I know, there I go again) spends so much time harping on the concept of "the wall". If Trump simply reworded it to say "enforce our border by any legal means possible" this would be a non-issue. Then, if he was elected, he could attempt to get Mexico to pay for the friggin' wall.
Of course if Trump were to take an easier, politically correct, more conventional path to anything, he would not be Trump

I felt Trump should have softened his stance on illegals, to exclude certain ones from deportation. From a personal perspective, I feel it is the right thing to do, and more importantly, from a general election stand point it would have been the smart thing to do.
I may not agree with it, but he stuck to his guns, and I guess you have to give him credit for that

Well,it looks like the media, in the form of the NYTimes.. did get caught lying and spinning their bias. The Times reported that Trump was "shelving his plan to deport 11 million undocumented people."
But,Trump's remarks in Arizona were just the opposite.
Under pressure the Times had to edit and re-write their propaganda story about Trump's plan.

The media is beside itself now.... They don't know where to go with him. He laid out the plan clearly when that was the big knock against him. The Witch hasn't had a press conference in 271 days - no problem, her plan is clear, more of the same b.s. that's got us where we are today. Trump is moving in the right direction. Does anyone here have a problem with deportation of illegal gang members and criminals. Please speak up....

One of the problems with trying to deport illegal gang members and criminals is when a country simply refuses to accept repatriation of its nationals, because of the illegal individual’s criminal history..
Build that wall and don't let them in,,in the first place..

So many posts I want to directly respond to. Just don't have the time. I hate typing out long responses on my cell phone. What a great hour long speech. Just brilliant. I knew the media was full of crap. I also knew liberals were just conjuring up the flip flopping BS.
Trump even spoke slowly and clearly in plain English so even the majority, naive, gullible, low information, uneducated, uniformed, ignorant, illiterate, lowest of the low - bipartisan independent liberals/democrats could even understand.
The end was tough. It got me chocked up when the angel moms spoke at the end. All their kids were tragically killed by illegal aliens. Something that should've never happened. All because of liberals those moms lost their kids. It sickens me to think what's going to happen when Hillary takes office. The total of Americans killed by illegal aliens is going to rise. Just sad. To all the patriots that posted (handshake)

So how much will all of this cost in the short and long term and how (in)effective would it hypothetically end up being?
I dont think this "round up the bad ones" and "I know how to build things wall" will end up being remotely effective, even for government standards.
Its implausible and really pretty stupid if you ask me. But there obviously is a segment of the population that lives in reality tv land and forget that actual execution is necessary for success...not some reality show where everything works out as some big mouth barks instructions.

The short answer is that illegals with criminal records are already in our system, and our jails, so deporting them should not be difficult or costly.
Of course, the ACLU, and other such organizations, could decide to have an extended court fight in an effort to keep those people here, even though they are (1) here illegally (2) committing illegal acts while here illegally

I have to disagree with you about the conclusion of social cost from illegals and why we are spending so much time focusing on the pennies on the ground when the real theft is happening while we are looking down at the brown people again.
Illegals in my opinion are net providers to the social system...they perform tasks at rates white folk are not interested in performing and that provides profits for businesses and goods at an artificially low cost to the consumer...that includes produce, labor, landscaping, etc etc...jobs that they WILL do while non-illegals are not interested in hard labor at cheap rates. Those benefits are tangible and real...also illegals purchase goods and services which add to the economy,
In an earlier post I said I would attempt to discover the true financial cost of illegals. My attempt failed miserably. Although, after a few hours of research I am now much more educated on such matters.
It should come as no surprise that the info which I attempted to obtain was terribly biased. When I read a report from a Harvard Prof, his conclusion was that of a net positive. When I read a report from a conservative source, their conclusion was significantly different.
Regardless of the source, it was evident that, depending upon their intended results, certain data was omitted or misrepresented.
For example, one report pointed out that illegals rent apartments, which helps the rental market (landlords) which helps keep housing values up. This report failed to acknowledge that we are an economy of supply and demand. If there were no illegals, rents would be lower for those who need it most. The obvious conclusion is that a few landlords benefit, yet a far greater number of needy residents, who here legally, suffer.
In the grand scheme this is a small, somewhat financially insignificant example, but it's what came to my mind at this moment. Similar examples were found in every report.
After my research, I've come to my own conclusion that while illegals are in no way a net positive, they are not as much of a financial burden as I had previously thought
