An excellent idea. As someone who worked at a nice restaurant during my HS days, our tips were vital. The waitstaff was paid a minimal amount & they lived on their tips. The diners got a fine dining experience at a fair cost, the owners made money, the staff made money......everyone was happy.

Lets discuss this since you say you were a server. I was also a server through college for about 5 years total and I worked at some very high end places and one that was similar to say Texas Roadhouse.
Employment taxes on wages are standard for all employees so how do you justify that tips are not considered part of income? Does someone get tips from driving their car or walking down the street, do you get tips from going on a run or playing video games? Tips for me was a majority of my income while working as a server. The state I was in paid a flat 2.15 an hour min wage for servers so from the places I worked I got 2.15 an hour plus tips. My total earnings was at that time in say the 20 per hour range and that means the tips were like 80% of my earnings. The min wage would cover basic taxes and sometimes not even that but I do not see how it makes any sense given that the funds received are due to work you are engaged in.
There is variability and it is unpredictable, sometimes I might make 10 an hour tips sometimes I might make 50 an hour it was not consistent but the compensation for sure deserves to be taxed IMO because it is an increase to the worker who is legally employed for that opportunity. I had to file the tax forms and verification forms, I had to get a food handlers permit and a server cert at that time so I had to qualify for that opportunity and that means the work being done should be taxed.
In some states and some countries the server does not accept tips and the compensation is paid by the business, but that is just six of one a half dozen of another quandry...if XYZ restaurant wont allow tips and pays servers 20 an hour, they will pass that cost on via the menu to the consumer, so it is the same end result. I preferred tips vs a higher wage because I could earn more tips based on effort and efficiency to the customer versus a flat wage where the server is for sure not going to be motivated the same way.
Is this just another Trump scheme to try and snooker the younger crowd? Sure seems like it...the concept is grounded in zero logic and opens up the conversation about other industries that should not be taxed...its a silly idea IMO.

Trump proposal to eliminate taxes on tips is bad policy. Problem is that it would create a tax loophole encouraging restaurants to not raise wages. Many tipped workers pay little tax and won't benefit much. Tip income is unreliable and most waiters would be better off with higher minimum wage but Trump is opposed to that. In contrast, Biden has consistently advocated for raising minimum wage.

I bussed tables in HS & briefly waited the lunch shift after I graduated. First off, as you know, nobody got 40 hr weeks & were paid min. wage ($2.30-ish back then).......no benny's. The waitstaff would share their tips with us bussers. Most of these waitstaff were either in college or had other day jobs. If I worked Thur. -Sat. night I might wake up Sunday a.m. & have $60-70, which was great.......gas money & enough to take my gal out. My paycheck every two weeks might net $100-$120. This was in the 70's.
These aren't supposed to be career jobs, but our illustrious moron of a Gov. thinks they are. Biden just gave away billions of our tax $$ to people that went to college & this is what you find offensive? Good lord. Maybe you're right though.......perhaps I'll just stop tipping altogether since workers are now being compensated to the tune of $17-$20/hr. I wouldn't want to be a burden to their tax bill.

The base from the company is not that high, I just looked and the state to which I was a server that long ago still only sets a min wage at 2.13 an hour. Down here the tipped min wage is higher than 2 an hour and I am not sure how well servers do for tips here, I would imagine the same as anywhere else.
I have several many actually friends who being a server is their career and have been doing it for over 20 years it is how they live. Dont minimize the work of someone else and say that the job was not meant to be a long term one and THUS it deserves different treatment. Serving is a job and it should be taxed as any other job. Its funny how Trump tries to win voters by tossing them a tax freebie instead of trying to connect with them and understand, to associate to interact to spend time mingling and getting to know them. Nah Trump is too busy golfing or crying on social media about the left and the nasty media how they treat him unfairly, too busy hosting high net worth snobs at his golf resort to even consider associating with other people outside his social club disgusting pigs friend group.
Say what you want about what a nut job Sanders is but I will give him kudos for interacting with other groups for championing the battles the youth and lower class face and for spending time actually serving people..Trump only knows how to serve himself I dont recall the last time I saw him ACTUALLY serve someone else in a genuine sincere kind way.
Previous admis were much better at doing regular service...that means doing service not tossing a few bucks at something or saying a few words towards something, actually taking time out and doing acts of service. Trump is too zero ego and selfish to do things for others just to be kind, what a poor excuse of a man he is.
Tips are earnings, they should be taxed the same as any other earnings no matter the source of how it is obtained. In Europe hooking is a taxed profession and since the employee will seek benefits at some point and since other employment areas are taxed there is no reason why tips should not be.
Student loan freebies are different they are SPENDING tax dollars, different topic. If you noticed the way that the loan gig has gone it isnt such a horrible thing, I think the measure is that you have to have paid for what 15 or 20 years to qualify? Whats wrong with that? Biden's plan of anyone didnt work out so not really a reason to complain about how that went down.

your boy wsc literally just said his income was 80% tips 20% min wage……so yeah tell me again trump is the reason servers make the majority of their $ off tips and not wages, you are something special sir/ma’am/it

Using taxpayers money to pay off student loans for those who have so far failed to pay them off. Forget the ones who actually did good and paid off their loans. And no mention of Joe saying he will (bribe) mortgage owners with 400 a month in his SOU. Nor the 2000 he promised Georgia voters for voting dem.
This is hilarious.

Bribes and ploys are all politicians do, so Biden tried with student loans for all, Trump tries with this tips crap, Sanders tried with multiple items (student loans, medicare for all etc) but here is the interesting thing..
Why are we bickering about social programs and using taxpayers money for US citizens many of which are not high income earners and are for sure not person to person taking massive scale from the government?
I'd rather give student loan forgiveness, lower tax rates for servers (who probably earn below median income) than give massive breaks to Tesla and that idiot Musk through carbon credits and tax breaks from states as he does. I'd gladly give social programs to WORKING people and students (even if I dont agree with the brutal higher ed problems) than to give tax forgiveness billions and corporate handouts and defense contractor paydays by forwarding foreign war scams.
If we want to try and run a balanced budget and reduce taxes from running a strong fiscal government then lets talk about it but that never happens and no motivation to do so, thus I would prefer mid to lower income schemes to massive corp scams any day.

Did you read all of my post regarding Trump or no? I said he does not really seek to engage and connect with people he uses them for a vote grab. The problem is he is wishy washy he is not committed to helping people just to position his agenda to get votes and get elected. He does this silly gimmick about tips taxes which is stupid and the IRS wont go along with that garbage, it is earned income and all earned income is subject to taxes so this makes zero sense. He does not connect with the younger crowd as the last time he was in he did zero for the younger crowd he rewarded massive trillion dollar market cap corps with a tax holiday and got rid of middle class tax breaks and increased taxes for many. I also do not recall ANY acts of true service done by Trump in my life, no sincere engagement with local community people to serve them and show them that he is their leader...Trump is a golf course country club schlub and this very weak attempt at a vote grab is pathetic.
Tell me what has Biden done PERSONALLY to the younger crowd to harm them? If you throw inflation in there you are less intelligent than even I thought before, Biden did not cause inflation no more than Trump caused inflation no more than Nancy or Ted caused inflation. The government does not CAUSE inflation, they tried for FIFTEEN years to CAUSE inflation, inflation does not explode from short term overall government spending especially since NOBODY HERE has ever extrapolated that CONSUMER based government spending was enough to move the inflation needle, it is NOT enough. Inflation takes a long time to build from a pure demand perspective, you cannot get a widespread demand CPI shock that makes inflation explode, the basket is too large this is not a single item this is a massive basket that takes a huge sum to move and a long long time. I know your narrative is to blame Biden for any weakness or issues because you are blind to Trump, but tell me what did BIDEN do to harm the younger generation?
Did Biden force rents to go up, did Biden infiltrate OPEC and force the monopoly to cut production? Did Biden stop domestic oil production even though we export much of our production? What did Biden and the DNC directly do that you can without any doubt blame HIM for?
Stop being partisan blind, you come off as a puppet with this blanket blame trashy stuff...

Biden encouraged the Ukraine war that resulted in Russian sanctions that increased inflation. Then he called it Putin's price hikes like the lying slimeball he is.
He publicly declared war on oil companies then drained the oil reserves to try and keep prices down.
He put tariffs on Chinese E vehicles in an election year only because Trump called it out as a bloodbath for the auto industry. Then Biden lied and told Detroit that Trump said there would be "bloodshed" if he wasn't elected.
After two years of heavy spending to survive COVID Biden continues to spend like there is no tomorrow.
Biden has spent more time away from his job (40%) than any other president.

IRS data for the year after Trump's tax cut shows;
Filers who earned $50,000 to $100,000 received a tax break of about 15 percent to 17 percent, and those earning $100,000 to $500,000 in adjusted gross income saw their personal income taxes cut by around 11 percent to 13 percent.
By comparison, no income group with an AGI of at least $500,000 received an average tax cut exceeding 9 percent, and the average tax cut for brackets starting at $1 million was less than 6 percent.
That means most middle-income and working-class earners enjoyed a tax cut that was at least double the size of tax cuts received by households earning $1 million or more.
What’s more, IRS data shows earners in higher income brackets contributed a bigger slice of the total income tax revenue pie following the passage of the tax reform law than they had in the previous year.
In fact, every income bracket with filers earning $200,000 or more increased its tax burden in 2018 compared to 2017, and every income bracket with a top limit lower than $200,000 paid a smaller proportion of the total personal tax revenue collected.

I will m,ake this very simple for mugg to understand.
Please explain why a person that works for tips shouldnt have to pay taxes on the money they make, but every other worker who doesn t get paid in tips, has to pay taxes on the money they get paid. Income is income pal. You cant say that 1 portion of workers have to pay taxes while another portion doesnt. So the waiter doest have to pay taxes on what he makes in a week (which could be some serious cash) but the guy in the factory who worked his ass off all week has to pay taxes on his money lmfaoooooooooooooo. Once again Mugg proves he has no concept of reality. This so comical and typical of trumps non sense. This is as funny as telling the oil companies they need to pony up a billion dollars for his campaign because if they do, they will be taken care of with great economic policies for them lollllll.
Lastly mugg, how should the govt make up for that lost income? Take more taxes from the factory worker to pay for the waiter, who could be actually making more money then the factory worker. On top of that majority of workers making tips dont report their full tips anyways. I know the republicans will raid social security to pay for the lost income taxes from tip workers. Sorry but i keep saying magas really arent bright and they love to hurt their own selves when they get behind silly non sense like this. They are so far deep in the cult, they have actually lost the ability to see thru bullshit anymore.
Sorry mugg but Wallstreet has way more knowledge about economics, then you could ever have. Thats a fact

In 2016, 140.9 million taxpayers reported earning $10.2 trillion in adjusted gross income and paid $1.4 trillion in individual income taxes.
The share of reported income earned by the top 1 percent of taxpayers fell slightly to 19.7 percent in 2016. Their share of federal individual income taxes fell slightly, to 37.3 percent.
In 2016, the top 50 percent of all taxpayers paid 97 percent of all individual income taxes, while the bottom 50 percent paid the remaining 3 percent.
The top 1 percent paid a greater share of individual income taxes (37.3 percent) than the bottom 90 percent combined (30.5 percent).
The top 1 percent of taxpayers paid a 26.9 percent individual income tax rate, which is more than seven times higher than taxpayers in the bottom 50 percent (3.7 percent).
In 2018, 144.3 million taxpayers reported earning $11.6 trillion in adjusted gross income (AGI) and paid $1.5 trillion in individual income taxes.
Tax year 2018 was the first under the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA). The number of returns filed and the amount of income reported grew in 2018 yet average tax rates fell across every income group and total income taxes paid decreased by $65 billion.
The share of reported income earned by the top 1 percent of taxpayers fell slightly, to 20.9 percent in 2018 from 21 percent in 2017. Their share of federal individual income taxes rose by 1.6 percentage points to 40.1 percent.
Since 2001, the share of federal income taxes paid by the top 1 percent increased from 33.2 percent to a new high of 40.1 percent in 2018.
In 2018, the top 50 percent of all taxpayers paid 97.1 percent of all individual income taxes, while the bottom 50 percent paid the remaining 2.9 percent.
The top 1 percent paid a greater share of individual income taxes (40.1 percent) than the bottom 90 percent combined (28.6 percent).
The top 1 percent of taxpayers paid a 25.4 percent average individual income tax rate, which is more than seven times higher than taxpayers in the bottom 50 percent (3.4 percent).
A NEW HIGH OF 40.1%
Top 1% paid 97.1% of all taxes

Lastly mugg, how should the govt make up for that lost income?
Has less government spending ever a occurred to you?
How about no Ukraine war? How about not funding Houthis? Not funding HAMAS? Not giving Iran billions? No free handouts for those who don't pay their bills.

IRS data for the year after Trump's tax cut shows; Filers who earned $50,000 to $100,000 received a tax break of about 15 percent to 17 percent, and those earning $100,000 to $500,000 in adjusted gross income saw their personal income taxes cut by around 11 percent to 13 percent. In fact, every income bracket with filers earning $200,000 or more increased its tax burden in 2018 compared to 2017, and every income bracket with a top limit lower than $200,000 paid a smaller proportion of the total personal tax revenue collected.
lmfaooooo yup must have been all those middle class tax cuts that created the 8 trillion trump added to the deficit.
maybe you should stop getting your info from just maga sources and actually get it from non partisan site. yeah i know every site that disagrees with trump is just fake news (that line is getting old now)

Right after Biden took office he called Zelensky. The next day Zelensky banned all Russian speaking TV stations even though a big part of the Ukraine population was Russian speaking. Biden did nothing to advert this war and the stupid promise of joining NATO caused it all.
Yet the cult members never see it, do they?

You can pick data out and form a narrative quite easily and I can do the same regarding taxes. I am a citizen I had SOME deductions, my SALT deductions are here in AZ where property taxes are lower than I paid in PA, so I would imagine if I was still in PA paying higher property taxes it would have been worse but I do my own taxes and mine went up...I was one of those filers that WITH deductions my brackets shifted, meaning when you enter the wages data into say a tax program it gives you the figures as you go and when I would enter wages and taxes my figure was X and then as I added deductions it improved my return versus now when I enter wage and tax figures the program really does not change much outside of IRA contributions, not much else has impact now. I do not consider myself out of the ordinary rather maybe a bracket edge taxpayer so mine went up and went up even more this last year.
So for me FACTS are the basis of my observation and since I am not alone about being a middle road citizen that had SOME write offs but not all or tons, I have been harmed since the unnecessary changes...so those are my tax realities.
