After these first two weeks it seems that the losing side this time around is reverting back to all they know. Have you seen this also where you are from?
Not as much in my location as of yet. But all of Latin America, but especially South America, has had a huge increase in dealing with China in the last couple of decades.
Because of the unique trade situations and potential resources for growth and development, this is not in itself a bad thing. But when you consider the political situation, it has other concerns that may trump the trade and development of resource development.
Another issue that Trump is claiming to be concerned about is the same as with Mexico—the illegals issue. The Darien Gap is a very dangerous area to get through—not just because of the terrain, but also because of the threat of gangs, etc. But the path for folks from South America leads through the Gap. But if this travel is not controlled, or even ‘tacitly’ assisted, then the path for illegals is much easier.
The issue is that for a while now, Venezuelans have had to ‘abandon’ their disaster of a country, along with the normal illegals from SA.
But no other country wants these illegals in their country. So, it is in their best interest to allow them to move on up north.
For example, there are a lot of illegals in the countries surrounding Venezuela. It is a huge issue in Ecuador, Colombia, Peru, etc.
The Panamanian President actually ran on controlling the Gap.
So, when they make their way to Panama, they have been waved right on through.
Then every other country, up to Mexico, does the same.
Trump sees this as another way to slow the illegals down. This was a HUGE part of what he ran on.
