There are a lot of good people on the republican side.   They are vastly outnumbered in their own party but still there are a lot of them.  The critical problem for most republicans (including the good ones)  is where they choose to get their news.  Fox News being their worst hindrance to objectivity and comprehensive reporting.  Not implying other sources are perfect.  Far from it.  But Fox is the worst by far and this is playing out in the courts as we speak!  Their own people agree it is not a news media but mostly a partisan propaganda arm strictly for ideological conservative and anti-Democrat views.  Fox News truly is a disgrace but it's the channel of choice by almost all republicans.  Which leads directly to mass ignorance of the truth, the whole truth and nothing but.  They simply refuse to allow facts to get in the way of their partisan rhetoric, no matter what.  That is the main problem and it causes untenable division.

I think it was our resident fact checker, Thirdperson, who posted information some time ago (last year?) about research involving FOX viewers being paid to watch CNN for several weeks. As I recall vaguely, a sizable portion of those Fox viewers saw things differently after that and even seemed less inclined to believe everything spouted on Fox.  Something like that.

They should do a similar research the other way, where normal citizens who watch cable but not Fox, are then paid to watch Fox News for a few weeks (if they can stomach the constant stream of partisan MAGA rhetoric) and see if their views are changed any.  My guess is the few who would survive the ordeal would most likely condemn Fox while reaffirming in their minds that all other major TV news sources are better less biased, less partisan, and much more likely to display all the key facts including those with opposing views.  Just a guess though.

The Minnesota Republican had emerged Tuesday afternoon as House Republicans’ new speaker nominee in the scramble to succeed Kevin McCarthy. But with a razor-thin GOP majority in the House, Emmer can only afford to lose four Republicans, and 26 voted against him behind closed doors.

And despite a phone call with Trump over the weekend, the disgraced & indicted former president has posted negative messages about Emmer on his Truth Social platform in recent days.

Several Republicans who oppose Emmer told CNN Tuesday they will not change their stance and are calling for a new candidate.

Congress is broken because House GOP is broken.  Voting for delusional election deniers contributes to dysfunctional government.   They are anti-establishment extremists who prefer government shutdown instead of compromising.  But in democracies, willingness to compromise is vital in advancing legislations forward.  If republicans cannot elect a House speaker, coalition with democrats may be necessary.  Problem is divided GOP is unwilling to share power with democrats.  Besides, democrats are unlikely to vote for election denier as speaker.  Sad since coalitions are some of the best governments in countries with parliamentary system.  

What if the compromising comes from the government shutdown ??  I mean, we are talking about a functional democratic republic process that allows for a government shutdown as part of the process.  Politics is all give and take.... give a little to get a little...patience 3rd, patience....

After accepting a humming economy from Obama (rated #11 best US president all-time by highly-respected/comprehensive surveys by experts), on his watch, the multiple indicted GOP RICO mob boss/fraud/sex-offender was also responsible for a crushing recession; FAILED to do the one thing most important to any US presidency - PROTECT THE COUNTRY! - setting in motion conditions leading directly to the deaths of over ONE MILLION Americans from a killer virus; stood by while over 20 million Americans were thrown out of work leadiing DIRECTLY to unprecedented financial hardship to much of the country and many millions of citizens and businesses; oversaw a spike in unemployment of over 14% - the worst since the Great Depression preceeding WW2; the only modern day US president to actually take a good economy and good unemployment numbers (from a Democrat) then leave the office in disgrace with a WORSE economy and BAD unemployment numbers....handing the task to fix HIS mess back to the Democrats.......again!; called our fallen soldiers "losers" and "suckers"; then incited and presided over one of the most heinous acts in our Republic by actually attempting a coup to overthrow a democratically elected US government - a criminal act leading to his arrest on multiple felonies, which also include multiple trials for fraud and sex crimes.
