In his Saturday video address, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described the situation in the east as “very complicated’' and said that the “Russian army is trying to squeeze at least some result’' by focusing its efforts there.
The Kremlin said Putin held an 80-minute phone call Saturday with the leaders of France and Germany in which he warned against the continued transfers of Western weapons to Ukraine and blamed the conflict’s disruption to global food supplies on Western sanctions.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and French President Emmanuel Macron urged an immediate cease-fire and a withdrawal of Russian troops, according to the chancellor’s spokesperson, and called on Putin to engage in serious, direct negotiations with Zelenskyy on ending the fighting.
Kremlin readout of the call said Putin affirmed “the openness of the Russian side to the resumption of dialogue.” The three leaders, who had gone weeks without speaking during the spring, agreed to stay in contact, it added.
But Russia’s recent progress in Donetsk and Luhansk, the two provinces that make up the Donbas, could further embolden Putin. Since failing to occupy Kyiv, Ukraine’s capital, Russia has set out to seize the last parts of the region not controlled by the separatists.
“If Russia did succeed in taking over these areas, it would highly likely be seen by the Kremlin as a substantive political achievement and be portrayed to the Russian people as justifying the invasion,” the British Ministry of Defense said in a Saturday assessment.
Russia has intensified efforts to capture the cities of Sievierodonetsk and nearby Lysychansk, which are the last major areas under Ukrainian control in Luhansk.

At the same time, U.S. is preparing to ship multiple-launch rocket systems (MLRS) to Ukraine in this critical juncture. The MLRS and its lighter-weight version, the HIMARS, can launch as far as 300 kilometers (186 miles), depending on the type of munition.(*2)
Ukrainian forces urgently need more long range heavy artilleries as Russians advancing in some part of Donbas.
help is on the way

The world is going to face a food shortage / price inflation problem unlike anything any of us have ever seen in our lives. America will be least affected but we will feel it. The rest of the world, especially the already less fortunate, are going to experience the unimaginable.
Thank you America

The Ukraine will eventually be a West and an East (Donbass)
Similar to Cold War Germany, this is what is coming. There is no WIN for Ukraine. Just a SURVIVE. Putin will have accomplished what he set out to in the first place. Which was never completely taking the entire Ukraine.

Saw a real sad consequence of war today. It was a picture or a Russian tank carrying items that were looted/ransacked from Ukrainian homes.
These are not souvenirs that soldiers take/ship home. These are what we consider basic items like pot/pans, clothing, hats, shoes, pillows, blankets etc. It's like I'm taking your stuff & there's nothing you can do about it.
When I returned home, I took a small piece of bamboo that was part of a punji pit that we discovered & blew up. I wore it around my neck for a couple of years to remind me how lucky I was to be back home. I stopped wearing it because so many people would ask me what it was & I really didn't want to discuss it. I still have it in a small jewelry box with old cufflinks & tie pins I'll never wear again.
I've willed it to my little sister who never stopped writing me letters while I was away. She helped remind me what I had to look forward to when I got home & there were plenty of days I wasn't sure I'd make it.
Love to all of my fellow vets here who had the honor of serving.

M109 self-propelled howitzer from U.S. and Danish Harpoon anti-ship missiles have arrived in Ukraine.
Harpoon has a range of about 80 to about 150 miles, while M109 howitzer also presents long range (40km) heavy artillery which is crucial in the battle of Donbas.

Russian tactics amount to incredible troop losses.
They [Russian army] use the same tactics over and over again. They shell for several hours – for three, four, five hours – in a row and then attack. Those who attack die. Then shelling and attack follow again, and so until they break through somewhere,” Haidai said.

Russia is stealing Ukrainian grain from store rooms.
Ukraine claims that the Russian forces have stolen nearly half a million tons of grains from Ukraine's temporarily occupied territories. Ukraine's First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food, Taras Vysotsky stated that their estimates suggest that half-million tons of grain have been stolen by the Russians. As per the reports of Ukrinform, he further stated that there are reports of grains being stolen from Kherson, Zaporizhia, Luhansk, Donetsk and Kharkiv, which are all temporarily seized regions. He claimed the grains go to Russia largely from the provinces of Kharkiv, Donetsk and Luhansk or through the temporarily controlled Crimea.
Vysotsky was also concerned that the Russians might seize a new harvest of winter crops. The Minister continued by stating that they hope that they will still be able to win and free these territories before the commencement of the gathering, which will begin in the southern regions in only a few weeks. He also claimed that the attackers attempted to sell the stolen grain in Egypt and Lebanon, but these countries refused to acquire such commodities. Russian ships carrying Ukrainian grain have also been spotted in Syria.

78 million tons. But due to war efforts 16.5 million tons of storage exists.
The country is being ravaged by war
Now facing difficult ties to export grain.
Ukraine is usually a major global grain and oilseed grower, but its exports have fallen sharply. The agriculture ministry said last week it had exported 763,000 tonnes of grain in the first 29 days of April versus 2.8 million tonnes in April 2021.
APK-Inform said in a report that Ukraine could harvest 55.9 million tonnes of grains and oilseeds in 2022 and the shortage capacity could total 16.3 million tonnes.

State statistics office data shows that Ukraine's total storage capacity is 75 million tonnes, which includes 44.5 million tonnes held by agricultural producers.
But the consultancy said that some of this capacity is located in the area of conflict and this reduces the available volume to around 61 million tonnes, meaning that 35% of its capacity is already taken up by the 2021 harvest.
"At the same time, the pace of the sowing campaign and weather conditions contribute to increasing the forecasts of grain and oilseeds production in Ukraine, which will further complicate the situation without proper sale of existing reserves," APK-Inform said.

Russia, one of the world's largest wheat exporters, will have 50 million tonnes of grain available for export in the new July-June marketing season, up from more than 37 million tonnes in the current season, its agriculture minister said.
Russia competes with the European Union and Ukraine to supply wheat to the Middle East and Africa. It continues to export despite difficulties with logistics and payments caused by Western sanctions on Moscow over what Russia terms its 'special military operation' in Ukraine.
Russia is expected to harvest 130 million tonnes of grain in 2022, including 87 million tonnes of wheat, President Vladimir Putin said earlier in May.
Exceed Expectations "The 2022 grain harvest may substantially exceed last year's level and reach the amount mentioned by the president in his speech, and approach, in fact, the maximum (level)," Dmitry Patrushev told a grain conference on Friday.
Russia produced a record grain crop 133.5 million tonnes in 2020, including 85.9 million tonnes of wheat. The crop was smaller in 2021.
Patrushev said Russia has exported more than 35 million tonnes of grain, including 28.5 million tonnes of wheat, this season.
He did not give an estimate for wheat exports in the new season.

"Similarly, junior officers have had to lead the lowest level tactical actions, as the army lacks the cadre of highly trained and empowered non-commissioned officers (NCOs) who fulfill that role in Western forces," the ministry said.
