If they are exchanged for each other, they should both agree that they'll take responsibility for each others actions before they are swapped. Maybe US cares more about media than public safety?  

This is all it is. Biden is getting hosed, and rightfully so. He's been so bad that he knows that anything he does will be spun negatively. If he doesn't do the swap (the right thing) his detractors will say, "He left an American over there to rot." If he does the swap it's, "You traded a war criminal for a stoner WNBA player?!"

In my opinion, Brit has to eat this L and sacrifice for her country. It's her own fault for being dumb enough to travel back and forth from Russia with vape cartridges. Typical spoiled American.

First rule when traveling overseas, read and understand their damn laws! Pretty common sense for international travelers, especially those traveling to Russia.

 Being the greatest country in the world leaves Americans spoiled. People from other countries tend to be more versed in the ways of the world but Americans feel like we can take vape cartridges in and out of foreign countries. It's the same thing with the tragic story of that kid in North Korea. Most people in war torn and third world countries are fighting to get out of them. Americans decide to vacation in such places. Then when told, "Hey, that part of the hotel is off limits," the American still enters said off limits area, and steals a poster. WTF.

I feel bad for Grinder. She was an absolute beast at Baylor. And she is an American but she should've known better. How dumb can you be?

 Agree 100%. Maybe she thought she wouldn't get caught? Maybe she didn't realize that vape cartridge was illegal there? Maybe she was just ignorant or thought she was above their rules? I feel bad for her as well as her sentence seems extreme, but that's their rules and she should have done her research before traveling. If she didn't like their rules and wanted to smoke, she could have stayed home, or went to play in Amsterdam, where it's legal. I do not think the trade Russia is offering is justified for the US to accept. If the US wants her back we need to negotiate some other trade, but not for a terrorist who's intentions are to harm citizens. Would be a catastrophic mistake for this admin to move forward with this trade IMO.  Maybe Russia can convince Lebron to take his talents there for a month to play in front of their crowds and they'll release Brittney. 

There is nothing to spin.  She plays over there, she knows the laws...she got caught breaking the law.

totally agree with that sentiment. You go to a foreign country, you abide by their laws. Otto and Griner learned the hard way, unfortunately, he paid with his life.

Different situations altogether but yeah, I don't have a whole lot of sympathy for either of them. Otto is the thesis statement for why other countries hate spoiled, entitled Americans. Spoiled Americans spend ridiculous sums of money traveling to a place like North Korea simply because they know they shouldn't. Simply just because they feel the can, even if they know shouldn't. So this kid goes to North Korea. The tour guides tell him there are floors and the sections of the hotel are off limits. DO NOT ENTER THESE AREAS! So what does he do? He goes into the restricted areas. Then he attempts to steal a propaganda poster. Play stupid games, when stupid prizes.

Griner had a vape pen. Giving the small amount of oil she had, 0.70 grams, she might've dead ass just forgot she had the thing. For those unfamiliar, you can get pre-loaded vape cartridges. They come in half and full grams. They are small. About the diameter of a ballpoint pen and a couple inches long. You screw this preloaded cartridge onto a battery and puff away. This was a cartridge she had been smoking on. A 1 gram cart that she had smoked 30% of. The average smoker if intentionally bringing their vape pen on a trip is usually going to bring a few extra cartridges.

Even the teacher referenced by Mugg knowingly tried to sneak weed in. It was personal use. A still relatively small amount, 20 grams. He was working in Russia and needed a lil reefer for personal/medical reasons. Griner's dumbass might've literally just forgot she had the pen with her. With that said, she did have her vape pen. Her own stupidity put her in that situation.

She knew exactly what she was doing.  She plays professional basketball there for few years now.
