The sheriff's back in town. 'Nuff said. Granted the Colts have a chance to win the game, and defeat possible the top 3 teams in the NFL... the question is can they keep up with The sheriff putting up points possession after possession?

Peyton must be licking his chops after watching the Colts defense get dominated on Monday night. The Colts defense looked conservative, predictable, and even more worrisome, they couldn't get any type of pass rush on Phil Rivers. If they give the Sheriff that much time, it could be a long day for Indy. Those 4 fgs by Nick Novak would all be touchdowns against Denver. I expect Peyton to make all the right reads and pick them apart this Sunday. I also expect the sheriff took detailed notes about the lack of depth for the Colts at LB, and I bet you he's drawing up a perfect gameplan for both Knoshown Moreno and Julius Thomas to have big days. 

The Colts best chance at staying competitive in this game is to control the clock with a heavy dose of Trent Richardson. I just don't see that happening this Sunday, especially after the Colt's inept display of time of possession vs the Bolts (21 minutes to 39 minutes). Not to mention, Trent Richardson has yet to be a major factor in a game, and hasn't been able to duplicate the effort of workhorse Ahmad Bradshaw. I could be wrong, but I don't see that breakout game coming against the Broncos #1 ranked rush defense (only allowing 70 yards a game). I think Trent needs a bye week to get more familiar with the playbook, and to develop better chemistry with his line.   

And just when you thought the Broncos couldn't get any better, they will finally be getting Von Miller back, who next to JJ Watt was the most valuable defensive player in the league last season. I expect him to be a little rusty given he hasn't been able to practice with the team, but his return should be a shot in the arm to a defense that has struggled against the pass (giving up an avg of 330 passing yards a game). If anything, he should at least be a factor on 3rd and long situations.    

I also expect a really unified Denver team because they know how badly Peyton wants this win. He may say all the politically correct things in the interviews this week...but just think about how this guy feels. He gets drafted by Indy in 1998 and gives his all to the franchise for 14 years. He goes on to set all types of records and finally gives them a Super Bowl win in 2006. And the moment he suffers a serious injury and the team faces a little adversity, they decide to part ways with him because they didn't need the services of a 36-year old with back and neck problems

I think its safe to say Peyton is going to have a little bit of a chip on his shoulder this Sunday and would love nothing more than to put on a clinic and give Jim Irsay the proverbial middle finger. And I wouldn't want to be the team that has to play a very motivated Peyton Manning and a very motivated Denver Bronco team, who are clearly emerging as one of the best regular season teams we've seen since the 2007 Patriots. I think the Colts drop 2 straight into their week 8 bye, but will have an opportunity for a statement win vs the Texans in week 9.

I'm going with The Sheriff on this. He's going back to his old town and looking to clean house. I like Luck and his Colts but they looked inept against the Chargers defense. Although being home and a weaker defense in the Broncos will have significant offensive improvement on the Colts part, I still say that they cannot match the Broncos in scoring possession per possession.

That was all ground game by the chargers and even then they stalled out badly and had to settle for FGs.  Colts offense still would have been enough if they didn't have such a bad run in with the dropsies.

Hard to fade the sherrif, but I'm taking the colts in my pick em pool.

also, that monday night loss was the mother of all bad spots... teams favored after playing the seahawks are 0-5 this year and you can't tell me the colts weren't aware that peyton is coming to town next week.

just wondering if all the guys that are on the Broncos this week because Irsay was running his mouth are the same guys who jumped on Minny after the news that one of AP's kids was killed

from an x's and o's standpoint Bronco's should roll, with Miller coming back and Peyton "all fired up" going back to indy....it's a no brainer....that's exactly what the lineman wants you to thing - but this is the classic case of buying Denver high and selling Indy low - you have a team that just got supposedly got "embarrasseed" on MNF by the Chargers and the national media darling Manning and I only have to lay 7 points?!?

 I wouldn't be surprised to see the Colts pull this one out SU, you can always read into a line a little better whaen you judge it in context with the moneyline. With the ML in this game only -255/+215, with several other MLs on -7 favorites this year falling in the -300/375 avg range this indicates to me the linemaker feels this game could go either way hence the shallow moneyline

I agree. I think Denver loses this one SU as NOBODY is expecting this to happen on Peyton's return. But with the wonderful script of the NFL, what better outcome could we have? I would LOVE to see Indy win this one!

Sammy, can I ask why you think Indy will only put up 17 pts, when dallas put up 48 on them? You mentioned Miller coming back, but you admitted he would probably be rusty....so don't you believe the Colts can easily get at least 21 here? They put up 34 on the Seahawks defense.

Please explain your logic behind the low Colts total that you posted.

Ok Sammy, I read your anaylsis again and I see your point about Peyton with a chip on his shoulder....(hopefully no pun intended LOL)
but the entire Broncos team as a whole has nothing against Indy in particular do they? Peyton cannot do it on his own. He needs the other players to step up. Chargers obviously were going to have a good game after being blown out by the Raiders, so that was no surprise.

I really think the Colts have a good chance of handing Denver their first loss of the season here. Peyton will tuck his head after the game, and collect his cash like the sellout that he is. Remember the Indy/Titans game a few years back? Indy was -2.5 and they won by 2 pts. Peyton is known for being a sellout just like the rest of them.

peyton goes off in this game, I think the first half might be close but colts cant keep up. every Denver game is just a shoot out to keep  up with peyton and luck is goin to have a few 3 and outs which peyton almost always capitalizes on. I don't have a crystal ball but my best guesstimate is den 34 colts 20. either way I POUNDED it with dallas and Chicago in a 10 pt tease large.

Maybe I'm wrong about the score. I expect the Colts to play better than they did Monday night. I am just not sure if it will be enough. Their defense doesn't inspire any confidence in me that they can contain the Broncos elite attack. They got a little lucky against Seattle with a blocked fg returned for a TD. The Seahawks moved the ball on them with ease, but just had to settle for field goals one too many times. Kinda the same story against the Chargers.

IMO the Broncos are on the same level as the Patriots from 2007, who went 8-0 ATS in their first 8 games. The Broncos are coming off back-to-back ATS losses. I like their chances of winning by double digits, considering they have won every single game by 16 points or more (with the exception of the Dallas game).

Hmmm....I left all 3 of those teams from my teaser. Seems like one of them might be a trap. Dallas getting 13 pts against a team that hasn't covered at home in centuries. Bears getting 10 pts against a winless redskins team at home and Denver....Well Denver just seems to good to be true. And we all know what happens when a play seems to good to be true. (Think Texans last week)

Sammy, Thanks for coming back and confirming. I wouldn't be surprised either way....If Denver blows them out, or if Indy won outright.  I just think one of these plays is also a teaser trap. Usually the later games, Vegas cleans up on and one side always loses on the teaser. Last week I noticed all 12 of the early games covered the teaser. (Thurs-Fri games) That's why they clean up with the later games. Anyone who simply bet #s 1-12 made a 70 for 1 payback.

You could totally tell that the Broncos were looking ahead to this game last week - when it was 21-19 deep into the third quarter against the Crapuares - AT HOME!!!

Say what you want about Romo carving this Denver "D" up, but he's a gunslinger, whereas Andy Luck is not. Plus, Champ Bailey didn't play that game, and neither did Von Miller. BOTH of these guys are back for this game, and hungry.....
