Got to go with Detroit here. They looked impressive during preseason. Now I know that doesnt mean much, but Kitna looked like he knew what he was doing and he was running the team.
I look for them to come out throwing down field and get ahead early and put the pressure on the rookie qb.

I really like the Lions here a -3. Now that Martz is out, Kitna will have some help with some more running plays to balance out the D. Setting up for big passing plays, hooking with Johnson and Williams. Detroit's "D" has improved and Atlanta has too many ???????

The Lions D is going to be much better than their last place ranking last year. They have totally overhauled it, and it has shown in the pre-season.
They will have alot of guys to rotate in on the D Line. Their secondary should be much better than it was last year with all the guys they brought in that have experience with the Tampa 2.
The offense is looking more balanced than it was last year. They are committed to run it more, didn't have much success in the pre-season, but they did run it more. I think this has helped the Lions O line keep the QB's clean this pre-season.....no real pass rush on the Lions QB, especially Kitna.
Last year under Mike Martz, 75-80% of the Lions pass plays were 7 step drops. And, Kitna was not allowed to audible. This resulted in a ton of sacks. 7 step drops are about 4 steps too many for a team that couldn't protect him or run the ball.
This year, only about 20% of their pass plays are 7 step drops. And, Kitna can audible whenever he feels it is necessary. With quicker drops, audibles, and a commitment to run the ball more, the O should stay on the field longer, thus allowing the D to rest up.
The Lions should take this one pretty easily against a rookie QB making his first start. I think you should see a 24-10 type of game.
Yes, the Lions are my favorite team........but, I also have the most knowledge on them. I read about them everyday, and have watched every pre-season game of theirs.

Problem is every offense they played this season had problems and were like their full complement of players, so it's really nothing to judge it by.

And they will need them !

They knew how to handle Shaun Rogers, no mystery there in Cincinnati sure was a big force I'm defense last year, weren't they now ?

And if we don't maintain the same scoring pace Martz kept up last year, you still don't win if you give up more than you score.

It doesn't matter how long there on the field offensively, the defense always winds up give big plays that wind of burning them and putting the offense right back out on the field.

Easily ? You got to be kidding me, we're not sneaking up on anybody this year don't worry about it, even with a rookie quarterback and Joey Harrington backing up in case he fails and they yank him, remember Harrington burning us for big yards and how many touchdowns on Thanksgiving day ? Or did you forget that ?

If the last statement is a true story and you're not 18 years old then you realize this is the Lions that you're talking about and their a favorite on the road which is never a good sign for them historically !

Yeah, I know. But, I think this team can handle a Falcons team with a rookie QB and coach. Hell, they went on the road in the first game last year all the way out to the Left Coast and took care of business..........and I think this years D and O will be better.
By no means am I putting anything larger than a unit on this, but I think the Lions will pull this one out fairly easily. If the Lions were smart, they would gear to stuff the run and dare Matt Ryan to beat you.
We shall see.

How about this one the Lions going 23-0 four wins in the preseason 16 wins in the regular season and 3 playoff wins all the way to the superbowl win. HAHAHAHA. The Lions are my fave team and they will win this game. Atlanta has nobody left with a rookie college QB. Lions by at least 10. Good Luck all this season.

Lions will be a much improved team this year... Atlanta will be better, but they aren't ready to beat a team with this many weapons...
for those who like betting season win totals, Lions over looks to be easy money... Kevin Smith improves them immensely, and with a healthy CJ this year, this is a deadly offense... Atlanta can't hang...

Wow this things is gonna go under by at least a TD. Horrible Atlanta O first week of the season? Combine that with the Lions actually running the ball this year and you've got the makings of a 21-10 type game.

Matt Ryan has played amazing in the preseason. We now have our double back threat with Turner and Norwood. We also have Roddy White who i consider better than every Lions WR. He had 1200+ yards with a terrible QB in Joey Harrington last season.
Our defense is the ? so let me break it down.
I LOVE our line with John Abraham and Jamaal Anderson on the ends. We have big man Grady Jackson back on the D line as well. I'm also loving our LBs especially rookie Curtis Lofton. Boley - Lofton - Brooking ... We just traded for Denvers 3rd CB , Domonique Foxworth so look for him starting on one side and 2nd year Chris Houston on the other side. I'm liking our rookie corner Chevis Jackson to. Thats a big thing with this Falcons team... rookies...
The only thing that scares me is Calvin Johnson. I fear none of Detroits RBs.
And remember , for the past 5 seasons in the NFC South, the team who finishes last wins the division the year after.
Falcons 24
Lions 14
Key to the Falcons winning
* Double threat at RB.
Falcons +3
Good luck to all.

the reason Detroit will step into the realm of playoff contender this season is because of Kevin Smith... they now have one of the best young RBs, and two of the best WRs in the NFL... this offense should not be taken lightly...
