This game has got stinker written all over it. Baseball score anyone?

I hope not, but it is possible.

This game does stink and laying points on the road with DET isn't a very good idea. However, The Lions did start 6-2 last year, and logically they should beat the Falcons, right? The question then remains, how can the Lions win but not cover...19-17? I lean the Lions, and expect to get fucked. I might just stay away all together...we shall see.

be safe, take the under...both teams want to run and the clock virtually never stops in the NFL.  take it to 41.5 for a little insurance just in case we do see 5 td's and 2 field goals.  should be more like 5 field goals and 2 td's.  a 17-12 type of game.  falcons defense will be decent and detroits much improved. pie

I love going against rookie QBs. Take DET -3

I think J. Kitna will tear apart that ATL secondary. Remember no more D. HALL. When Payton Manning was a rookie, he threw 28 INTS and he was a damn good QB at TENN. Matt Ryan was an above avg QB in college. Im sure hell have more picks than TDs in this game. One more thing, D. Wuerffel was a star QB in college.

Look at what happened when he went to the NFL.

Was on this game in June as a pick'em.  Knew the line would jump massively to Detroit's favor once the public started getting more interested in the NFL over MLB.  Three-point jump.

Detroit wins by 7+.  Atlanta's D will be over-matched all afternoon.  Detroit finally has some semblance of a running game now.  If those didn't see Kevin Smith yet, he has been very impressive in the preseason against first-teamers  Definitely nothing detrimental to the team for sure.  Rudi just adds sugar to the cake.  Kitna will be launching bombs like Brees just as Atlanta tries to do something to stop the run.  Swing right, move left.

Ryan should be good eventually and Turner will help, but the Falcons are heading quickly for 2-14 or 3-13.

Detroit was the play in June and they are the play on September 7th.

Our defense is the ? so let me break it down. 
I LOVE our line with John Abraham and Jamaal Anderson on the ends. We have big man Grady Jackson back on the D line as well. I'm also loving our LBs especially rookie Curtis Lofton. Boley - Lofton - Brooking ... We just traded for Denvers 3rd CB , Domonique Foxworth so look for him starting on one side and 2nd year Chris Houston on the other side. I'm liking our rookie corner Chevis Jackson to. Thats a big thing with this Falcons team... rookies...
 
The only thing that scares me is Calvin Johnson. I fear none of Detroits RBs.
 
And remember , for the past 5 seasons in the NFC South, the team who finishes last wins the division the year after.

BTW, I am not a Lions fan.

Kevin Smith will do damage to the Atlanta D.  You haven't seen him yet.

Kitna will fire at will.

Detroit will stop the run and plug up White.....Ryan will have too much pressure.  The game speeds up 10x in the regular season.

And yes, amazing, for what, 6 or 7 years, the worst team in the NFC South has won the division the following year.  Amazing stat.  However, Atlanta will be lucky to win 4 games this season.

Saints win the division.

Headoverheart mate.  If you put money on Falcons +3, I wish you luck, but it isn;t the right play.

Neither team is exactly "High Calibur" but since Atlanta is coming into the season with a first year head coach and rookie QB I think they may have some kinks to iron out. I'm going with Detroit on this one. Roy Wlliams and the added additionof Rudi Johnson will contribute to a more successful season this year.

Detroit Lions have been able to get out to a strong start in the past couple years, giving the fans a slight glimmer of hope, and then tanking it at the end.  I'm thinking this season is going to be more of an up and down type of year, not as streaky as in the past.  They have weapons on top of weapons on the offensive side of the ball, but are still very young and very inexperienced on defense.

Luckily however, they are going up against the Atlanta Falcons, who don't have a single weapon on the offensive side of the ball, and traded away their two best players from last season.  Crumpler, DeAngelo Hall, and Warrick Dunn are all traded away, and that doesn't leave much for rookie QB Matt Ryan.  Matty Ice will have a solid year (hopefully with my 15-1 odds for ROY) but it's going to be a rough start until he finds a receiver he can trust.

this is my week 1 best bet (i don't use the "L" word and hate reading it or hearing it) and i've had this one pegged for weeks now. 
 
atlanta made a ton of moves in the offseason.  they lost 3 key players, they have a new GM, rookie head coach, rookie QB, and i'm surprised no one has mentioned their rookie left tackle that will be starting on an already suspect offensive line. 
 
detroit has weapons and should have no problem spotting the falcons 3 and still end up having more points on the board at the end of the game. 
 
roddy white is better than any receiver on detroit.....now that is funny!!!

my advice is to jump on this now before this line goes up on sunday and then you have to worry about hooks and more.  take it ASAP and get the lions at -3.  it won't be that low on sunday morning.

Not to mention that the Falcons have younsters at the corners that have to try and cover Roy Williams and Calvin Johnson.......Experienced DB's won't have a good time trying to cover these 2.

Atlanta is a decent defensive team.  I don't think thats enough to beat Detroit.  Detroit should win this one big.  Detroit -3

Lions have been my mortal lock all week...makes me worry a little that EVERYBODY is riding them but hey, i gotta go with my theory that vegas lets a few go easy early in the season to give joe public a taste,,,,Kevin Smith is this years adrian peterson!...DET take it to the bank!

I think that Atlanta will surprise a few people early this season......Detroit has too much pressure on them to go on the road on week 1 and win.  Atlanta has a 1,200 yard receiver with double digit TD's last year......now with a much better QB throwing the ball his way.......Micheal Turner is starving for his shot at stardom.........after playing in LT's shadow for the last 5 years.   I am going against the hurd and banging on Atlanta in this one.
