I'm leaning towards the Chiefs in this one simply because I have a feeling we are going to see a lot more games like the old Patriots. The hell with showing off and putting up points, do what it takes to win the game. Brady hasn't played a minute in preseason which won't really hurt them at all IMO. He's the best in the league, and it doesn't matter what he does before the season starts.
The Chiefs have NO answer for the passing game of the Pats. Losing Jared Allen will eliminate any pass rush which is what you need to do to beat the Pats. On defense the way to beat them is by throwing the ball against their weakish secondary. Chiefs don't really have the major weapons to do this either.
This game all depends on what you can get the number at, if it's less than 17 I would probably take the Pats, but if you can manage to get 17 or more, the Chiefs would be a good bet. I can very easily see this being a 27-10 game.

Glad to see I'm on the right side.

hoping you're right on that call, CMJ... i bet this game early (like July) and got NE (-16)... the line got up to 17 at one point and i wasn't liking what i saw from NE so i bought the hook and got KC on the other side... figure i'll take the loss on the vig... it just seems like its right around the number...
if it was last years Pats, this would be a 48-17 game for sure... but i see them playing closer to the vest... blowing up all those records last year and running up the score didn't get them a SB ring...

The lines being down this morning may have something to do with some comments coming out of NE. Apparently Brady's deep bone bruise he suffered last year and the reason for the much reported on boot wasn't a bruise at all- but apparently a broken bone in his foot. Supposedly he had an MRI in August which still showed the break. Very interesting! This was reported on WEEI a Boston radio station- sports radio I think. They went on to say that Brady is supposed to start though.
Too many questions for the Pats and alot of points- may roll KC here.

WEEI is the worst sports radio. It was probably dennis and Callahan or the Big Show that reported it. They are both idiot, pissed off cause Bellichick screws with the media so much. It was a reporter from the Boston Herald that also reported the story about the Pats taping the Rams walk through, howd that one end up again? Point is, WEEI sucks, Brady is fine, they are just screwing with the media again. Brady will be on the injured report as questionable with a right shoulder injury.

What's up GRIFF...just hanging around here catching up with all the NBA peeps. MLB sucks so I'm pumped as a mother f'r for this weekend!!
Just a fair warning that the Pats are not the team they were last year, going to win a lot of games in the 9-13 point range.

CMJ, LET THE GAMES BEGIN!! I think u are correct about the pats, but I don't see ANY way for the chiefs to get more than 10-13 points. It will be a great season. keep enjoying this great weather.

i don't mind saying i agree with CMJ... Pats don't look like they are gonna be able to run up the score at will on teams like last year... and the big problem, in my view, is the defense...
one over-looked aspect of the many Pats' blowouts last year was the fact that they did most of the blowing up in the 2nd half and after they had established a big lead... reason being is that Bellicheck was able to take shots down the field off of his play-action, knowing that his defense could bail him out if anything went wrong...
this year, with the Pats defense struggling to get off the field at times, that luxury won't be there...
not saying the Pats will struggle to win this game... and i still think they are the better side... but my point is, don't expect the Pats to hold many (if any) teams to 10 points this year... that defense is not the same...
luckily, the Chiefs offer nothing to worry about... stack the box, force Croyle to beat you (which he won't)... meanwhile, no pass rush to worry about from KC, which is the key to beating the Pats...
38-17

Expect the Pats to try and put the game away by halftime....
The Chiefs have 13 rookies and 6 waiver pick-ups on their 53 man roster....O-line - in addition to a waiver pick-up let go by the Jets late last season, they are starting rookie Brandon Albert at left tackle (vs all pro Seymour) - Albert missed all of pre-season just starting practice Monday this week (and he played guard in college). The Chiefs are starting 3rd and 5th round DB rookies in their nickel package vs. Brady, Welker and company. The Chiefs have little pass rush and I am guessing the Bellicek might have figured out a way to stop KC's one dimensional offense ?
I am a Chiefs fan, and look for them to be worse than the Dolphins last season while they rebuild from basically scratch and Larry Johnson.
Pats 48 Chiefs 10

ok... there seem to be some people have some pretty good info on this game... so i am hoping someone can shed some light on what i think is the most important and totally overlooked issue in this game...
Wes Welker... what is his status? i mean, not what i can read on an injury report... i have been around long enough to know that 90% of what is listed on the Pats injury reports is intended to mislead... if an injury is serious, you wouldn't know it by looking at the Pats report... if it is bogus, they will make it look like the guy is going on IR...
so here we have Welker, who got hurt in the game against Philly, and almost nobody knows about it, because NE snuck him to the sideline and just acted like he was supposed to come out of the game... but it was a rib injury, and for a WR those are really scary...
so does anyone have some true insight into this injury... because i think NE is a completely different team if Welker is not playing or even just ineffective...
CMJ? whatdya got?

how about I go out on a limb here and say they don't need welker 100%.... I mean figure him out of the game completely... does that make you change your mind about the Pat offense?.... don't forget they have watson up the middle and they will be using Maroney...
I can just see the Pats putting up 2 quick scores in the first half.... KC playing a catch-up game herm edwards style.... and the Pat defense looking tough despite criticism.... maybe a pick or too....
They're game plan is going to be drawed up around stopping Larry Johnson.... im sure they are not really worried about the air game.... I mean they can stop the run, they're only real question mark is their secondary.... don't forget, this team almost went UNDEFEATED......
don't forget about Maroney, who will probably be catching a screen pass or two.... he should have a big year.... and a big game against the KC defense....
BRADY IS FINE..... he was trying to hold his laughter in at the press conference.... basically smiling through his teeth thing about Moss in the endzone....
Pats destroy.... its week 1, that old D is rested.... and bitter
I'll lay the points
