I hate to go against my Gmen. But I will have to respectfully disagree with my fellow degenerate gambler above. Oddsmakers are probably factoring in the last few times these teams played. The Giants have had some of the most embarassing losses I've ever seen when squaring off against Drew Brees.
In the last match up, which was a Monday Night game at the SuperDome in week 12 of last year, Drew Brees went absolutely nuts, going 24/38 for 363 yards and 4 TDs (no INTs). The Giants were able to put up points in the game, but the final score was 49-24. In that game, the Giant's incredible "pass rush" was non existant and held in check all day by the Saints offensive line, as they were held to no sacks. The Saints also dominated the line of scrimmage and ran for over 200 yards! Sproles, Ingram, and Pierre Thomas had a field day on the Gmen.
The last time these guys played prior to that Monday Night game was in week 6 of 2009. The Saints also won that game with a final score of 48-27. Drew Brees was equally dominant in this one as well, going 23/30 for 369 yards and 4 TDs (also with no INTs). The Giants were also held without a sack in that game.
Lets just say Drew Brees is sort of a Giant-slayer. In his last two games against the Giants, he's completing 69% of his passes, thrown for over 700 yards, and has 8 TDs with no interceptions (and 1 rushing TD as well). I look for him to avenge his horrible outing in Atlanta last week and put up big numbers against a Giant defense that just got gashed by the Skins. I have little doubt that Drew Brees has had this game circled on his calendar.
Keep in mind the Saints haven't played since Thursday night and will have the luxury of having 4 extra days to prepare, as the Giants just played on Monday night! Thats almost the equivalent of a bye week. And believe me, those days really matter at this stage in the season. Just look at how the teams that played on Thanksgiving did the following week. Texans, Cowboys, Redskins, Jets, and Pats all won SU. Lions were the only exception and lost in the final seconds to the Colts.
Believe me, the Giants could definitely use the extra time for their offensive line, which lost key veteran Sean Locklear on Monday night. Kenny Boothe also missed time during the game due to an injury, and David Diehl hasn't been healthy all year. He probably played on Monday because they had no one else that knew the offense well enough to play.
Add to the fact that the Giants have historically played bad at home, and you have a recipe for a close game, or possibly straight up loss for the Giants (It really pains me to say that).
Don't get me wrong, the Giants will definitely put up points on the Saints defense, but I can't see how I could endorse laying 5.5 on the Gmen in this spot.
