This game is SCREAMING Patriots - - But, isn't every QB a "rookie" at some point? Doesn't Geno deserve the same "legacy" hype as a Tom Brady or a Peyton Manning (3-13 his "rookie" year, mind you)? Now, that being said..........
The game is in Foxborough, and it is "The Hoodie" coming off of a "near-miss" in Buffalo (another division rival)....
Ehhhhhhh, but the Pats are kind of a wounded Hyena right now - - but, a wounded Hyena backed into a corner, against a "crap" team - - anyone seen "The Life Of Pi" - - ehhhhhhh....
Pats "win" - but it won't be pretty at all by spread standards......
Final thought - I'll tease the Pats M/L with something else, For the "win".....

This is the media worst nightmare. Ryan goes to Foxboro with a rookie QB and pulls out a win. That would make the jerk look like a genius. I expect this to be a closer game than people think. Brady got no weapons, well no name weapons to be clear. The weather may play a role in this one. Jets +12 and Over

Geno smith on the road in foxborough will look like a rookie. Patriots may repeat the same play as they did last year at home vs the jets. 30+ victory!! True the passing game of the patriots didn't look good at all, but it doesnt take long for a team like the pats to get things up to gear in a coulple days. Expect a high scoring output from the pats this thursday against a jets offense that doesnt have a elite player except maybe the rookie QB.. That says it all..

The last time I picked the Jets to cover a big spread on a short work week was Thanksgiving last year...the infamous butt fumble game. It just might be too early in the season for another helping of humble pie.
With Vereen, Amendola, and Gronk out; it's hard to imagine a scenario in which the Pats are lighting up the scoreboard. If Ryan has his team ready to play some turnover-free football, covering 12 seems really manageable. Geno threw a pick and fumbled last week...you can get away with that at home against Tampa. At Foxboro, Brady will make you pay for those mistakes.
I was actually somewhat impressed with the play of the Jets offensive line. They gave their rookie quarterback lots of time and a clean pocket to throw from. Although its important to note that the Bucs had the worst-ranked pass defense last year and were tied for the league low in sacks with 27. The Jets defense also did a decent job against the run, holding Doug Martin to 65 yards on 24 carries.
I'm trying to talk myself into taking the Jets, but with only 1 week of watching them play, its difficult to have confidence in a rookie quarterback playing his first road game on a short work week. I guess the line is 12 for a reason. Leaning Jets, but there's definitely some better bets this Sunday.

Well Brady really has not had weapons much over the last years ...no running back ..riddley is an upgrade ...granted gronk and welker were great but they have a couple of new guys in town and with brady at the helm he will make them stars ...jets ya right ...dont like d-digits lines either but this time @ home and they should blow jets out ....big game for rookie qb i see at least two td from defense ....laying

I'm a huge Patriots fan!!! & this line scares me, but the NY Jets are bad & had home luck on their side week 1.... So saying that, don't be suprised when New England covers this one easily!! New England 31-10 ( NYJ squeeze in ohhh by the way TD late...LOL!)

AGREED! Even if Pats had a bad game, I still see Brady come back with a W by at least a FG. Perhaps a 10pt tease with Bengals and Texans?

Dont over think it , Jets good defense keeps it close. Pats had a lot of trouble with the Bills last week. they almost lost. WIth no Welker , no Hernandez ,New TE no catches , no S. Vereen (hurt), Amandola hurt , Gronk's first game back off injury. its not the same Pats
Jets +12 , just too many points against the jets D who keep it close ! your looking at 21 to 14 score or so.

On Thursday nights, 'divisional' games involving a home-favorite of 7 or more points ...
! ... The home-favorite has covered the number 60% of the last 5 instances (by more than 5 points.)
& On Thursday nights, in 'any' game involving a home-favorite of 9 or more points ...
! ... The home-favorite has covered the number 82% of the last 11 instances (and eight of those 9 home-favorites covered by more than 3 points.) [Those 11 games, similarly, all featured road-underdogs coming off of home games.]
! ... Coming off of a win, and the home-favorite has covered the number 75% of the last 8 instances (by more than 3 points). -- Six of those 8 games went UNDER their given point totals (and five of those 6 games went UNDER by more than 3 points).
& On Thursday nights, in 'any' game involving a road-underdog of 9 or more points ...
! ... Coming off of a win, and the road-underdog has covered the number 0% of the last 6 instances (and all six of those 6 home-favorites covered by more than 3 points).

guys look back, Brady can not cover the points last year at home with jets also this year guys go JENO SMITH.......12 .
They may not have covered at home, however the defense blew a 10 point fourth quarter lead in that game, after that they went into new York and blew out the jets by 30. Also its hard to take a prediction seriously when you don't know how to spell the name of the guy you are backing, its Geno.
This line makes me think that oddsmakers want to make you lean towards the jets. I took buffalo to cover the spread last week, but I don't feel the same this week. This game is in new England for a season home opener. Tom Brady isn't hapy with the way things went last week, and is going to come back strong. Vareen may not be in the game, but ridley is more than capable than what he showed last week, there is a reason he was named the starter. Amendola is also doubtful for this game, but the pats will find a way to get a group of talented and young wrs involved.
Jets number one offense last week was geno being able to run the ball in big spots, that wont be so easy against the pats, they are going to force him to beat them with his arm and I don't know if he has what it takes yet. Im not willing to put my money on a guy who hasn't proven anything yet. Without an extremely stupid personal foul at the end of that game, I still don't think the jets take the win.
Im not buying into the jets at all. I still think that they are a long way from being a contender with the big boys. The patriots are still the patriots and are better than what they showed last week.
Ill be taking the pats, not gonna go too crazy with it though, its still the nfl and 12 points is still a large number, one tipped ball or bad fumble can cost you a cover, so be careful with this one.
Goodluck to everyone with what they go with

i think most of you guys are right, with the difference being defensive touchdowns and/or turnovers deep in NYJ territory. Bellichick has never won at home to a rookie QB by less than 14 points...ever. They will make him look silly as hell, and despite having stars out, Tom will look to bounce back in a big way with great field position all night.
Pats cover thanks to D and Geno turnovers

I watched many snaps of the Jets-Bucs game last week. Here's what I noticed, it was a dreadful game to watch. The Jets don't win without the bonehead personal foul out of bounds on Geno. Secondly, the Bucs were penalized 13 times for 102 yards. The Pats will not give up that many penalty yards. The Jets D gave up 154 yards to the Josh Freeman/Vincent Jackson connection. Now the Pats may not have a receiver comparable to Jackson's caliber. However, Josh Freeman is no Tom Brady. The Jets also have no running game as Geno lead the team in rushing with 47 yards. It makes me wonder had the Jets lost last week as they should have where would this line be?
Now for the Patriots, I went with them and the -10 spread last week and was extremely happy to see them jump out to a 10-0 1st quarter lead. The offense was abysmal in the second half, I don't see that happening this time. Now picture this with no Gronk, no Amendola, no Vereen why didn't this line come out at -7.5???
My thought is Vegas wants money on the Jets. For what we saw from the Pats in the second half and the Jets pulling out a win and all the offensive injuries for the Pats the line shouldn't be so high.
Tom Brady will throw for 250 yards and 2 TD's, they will rush for 150 yards and 1 TD and have at least one field goal. The Jets will struggle for 10 points in this matchup.
Patriots 24 Jets 10
Pats -11.5
