Palmeiras/Botafogo - These two have had some significant clashes the past couple seasons both domestically and continentally with Botafogo finally getting through last season after faltering infamously a couple seasons ago. The visitors have made some significant changes to their lineup since capturing the double last season but still have some offensive firepower in Igor Jesus. Palmeiras is coming off that disappointing loss to Corinthians and has had some issues in front of goal recently but still have Vitor Roque who came back to South America after a listless spell in Europe. Was expecting a cagey and slow 1H but think we saw a goal minimum in the 2H, especially after the host’s goalless draw last game.

Got so wrapped up in that Fiorentina/Atalanta game that we missed Aston Villa smh Hajduk Split/Sibenik - Had this game circled for two weeks. After getting their asses kicked by Rijeka, Gattuso got into a pretty contentious but fun-to-watch back-and-forth with TV pundit Josko Jelicic in the on-field postgame interview. Great to see Gattuso's infamous temperament underlying his undying competitive passion still in full bloom after all these years lol. Rijeka had an unexpected slipup yesterday, leaving the door open for Hajduk to erase their last performance and take a slim lead at the top. Fully expecting the hosts to take care against relegation-bound Sibenik in the 1H. Plays: 1H over 1 (live)/over 0.75 (live if the opportunity even presents itself) |

PSV/Ajax - Would have to go back to 2019 to find the last time these two rivals didn’t see a breakthrough at halftime. Hosts have a huge opportunity here to close the gap at the top with a 6-pointer if they can find a way to win. Love taking games involving the top sides in domestic leagues for goals, especially when live odds make it worth the bite. Plays: 1H over 1 (-122) |

Fiorentina/Atalanta - Bergamo Boys have had two weeks to stew on that loss to Inter that puts them 6 points off the top while extending their losing streak to 8 against the Nerazzurri including being outscored 12-0 in their last four. After getting whooped at San Siro at the beginning of the season 4-0, Atalanta came out scorching in its’ next game against this same Fiorentina side, taking a 3-2 lead into halftime. Interestingly enough, the last two games between these two sides featured five 1H goals in both games. Two potent offenses one of whom just got shut out at home bodes well for at least a 1H goal, which I have a feeling will come early. Plays: 1H over 1(-122)/over 0.75 (live) |

Juventus/Genoa - A lot I like here. Juventus having been outscored 7-0 in their last two games to European spot rivals spurring the removal of Thiago Motta, who was one of the hottest coaches on that market along with Xabi during the summer, over international break. Word on the street was that Motta had lost the locker room with his tactics but sad to see him go as I thought he was a brilliant coach who had introduced some refreshing ideas during last season’s unexpected rise with Bologna. Not enamored with Igor Tudor’s hiring but I guess it could be temporary. Interesting to see that one of his first moves was to elevate Vlahovic to the starting eleven while dropping Kolo Muani who I thought was one of the brighter spots for the team before cooling off recently. Expecting Juventus to find a way to break down Genoa in the 1H in light of these circumstances.

Como/Empoli - Love the way Cesc Fabregas has his side playing in their first season on returning to the top flight after 2+ decades. Out of the three newcomers this season, Como was arguably the most aggressive and shrewdest with the moves they made in the offseason, picking up veterans like Alberto Moreno and Pepe Reina for free while rolling the dice on Andrea Belloti and Nico Paz (this kid’s stock will rise astronomically just wait) for cheap. Even if all the moves haven’t worked out so far, you can tell the club’s hierarchy has a clear vision they are working towards, and the way they’ve gone about it has been admirable. Heck they’ve given Dele Alli a shot in a low risk, high reward situation. Anyways, Como has scored in all but one home match this season with 22 out of their 35 goals coming by the lake. They’ve faced Empoli three times in their history, never having scored a goal against them and with none of the games going over 2.5. Empoli’s probably my least favorite team other than Venezia to bet on for overs, but again, all streaks come to an end and I can’t see Como not netting 1+ here. No official play yet but thinking Como TT over 1.5 with btts. It’s been a great week so no need to push the action. Mitigating the risk by taking 1H over 0.75 live and then seeing how the game plays out from there will be my preferred approach. |

Real Sociedad/Real Valladolid - Not a fan of taking overs, let alone 1H over, on the Basque Country side but it seemed like the offense finally started showing signs of life consistently. Having Kubo in the side is a game changer for this side. Saw that Valladolid hasn’t conceded against the hosts in three straight. Those types of streaks bode well to end especially when you’re bottom of league and fighting relegation. If RS don’t find the net in the 1H, taking them to score 2H wouldn’t be a bad idea. Plays: 1H over 0.75 (-112) |

Gil Vicente/Benfica - The talent gap between the top three (maybe four if you want to include Braga) and the rest of the teams in the Portuguese league is arguably one of the widest in the world. So anytime I can grab a 1H total over 1 close to even money is worth the risk considering Sporting/Benfica/Porto (ok maybe Porto's recent anemic offense argues against that) will usually find the net at least once in the 1H. The hosts haven't been involved in many high scoring games recently (7 out of last 8 went under 2.5), including holding the league leaders to just a 2H goal in the Taca de Portugal, but I'm willing to bet we see a 1H goal minimum here. Yea, Benfica is sending out the second stringers, but Belotti used to lead the line once for Fiorentina and was pegged to be Italy's next great forward while I've always loved Bruma during his time at Braga. Odds are probably better now than when I grabbed it. Plays: 1H over 1 (-115)/0.75 (-122) |
