replied to FYI Canadian Checks in Gaming Industry - US As mentioned above, foreign checks cannot be deposited via ATM. If you go inside, it shouldn't be a problem. Generally, they place a hold on it for one day and then it is cleared. For Canadian checks the routing number is different so they have to put a 0 or 1 in front of the routing number for it to go through. Most tellers don't know how to do this and will call for a supervisor. The only other issue is determining whether the check is in US funds or not, but the check usually makes it clear. You just have to go inside to deposit the check and usually the tellers will have trouble because Canadian routing numbers have an extra number. After the teller figures out how to deposit the check, most of the funds we will be put on hold until it clears, which usually takes a couple of days.
