created a topic Ovechkin's Greatest Stat? Something to ponder..... in NHL Betting Ovechkin is the league leader in Empty Net goals. I'm not disputing the value of an empty net goal which ends the hopes of the opposition tying the game. I have 1 question that i hope someone can answer. Why is Oveckin on the ice at the end of the game? He's not very strong defensively? He doesn't win faceoffs and he not a second option if/when the main faceoff man is tossed. He doesn't kill penalties and the extra man at the end of the game is the equivelent to a powerplay. In my opinion the only purpose is in an attempt to pad his stats. I wonder, maybe he hopes to have the all-time empty net goal record. I guess, given that the Caps are such a strong team they can afford to have a liability on the ice in an attempt to pad his stats. I also wonder if this approach might cost them in their quest to win the Cup but maybe BigB will come to his senses....
