Well, we are only 10 sleeps away from the opening game of the season. I will just keep the one thread all season long. I have just placed a few future bets with Sportsbet.
1. Titans to make the 8 - Yes @ $3.00
For me, Titans are going to be a darkhorse this year as long as Kelly and Sezer stay fit. They need to improve their away form as well but towards the end of last season, they improved dramatically missing out on a top 8 position thanks to the last game of the year against the Storm. Myles and Bird as much as I dislike them both, are good consistent players. The outside backs are very quick and skillful and their forwards are experienced and now with Neil Henry as an assistant coach to John Cartwright, I think this makes them a level above last season. As long as their halves stay fit and healthy, I think they will make either 7th or 8th position IMO.
2. Cowboys: Top 4 Finish - $3.50
With JT, Morgan and Thompson + their awesome forwards and very quick backs, I think they will carry on from last season. They had a stellar 2H of the season last year and JT still wants that Premiership for his beloved Cowboys. They also have the depth during the Origin period with Ray Thompson being able to play hooker or half and Morgan being very flexible. It was unlucky news about Lachlan Coote because I think he is a good young fullback but they will have enough depth to fill his position this season at FB.
Thats my futures for now, may play a few more. Looking forward for this season getting under way.
BOL everyone.

Absolutely agree Jive_Turkey.. Both teams will be under the pump as soon as Round 1 starts. At least Griffin as a good forward pack, Steve Price has nothing apart from Merrin, Creagh and Dugan.

Now that the teams have been released, we can finally have some plays on this very interesting 1st round.
Only a few plays, might have some later.
Panthers vs Newcastle: Panthers -1.5 @ $1.90
There has been a lot of hype around town about how good this Panthers team is going to be. I think they have the squad to make the top 8 for sure. I think Newcastle will struggle with no Mullen in their squad. The Panthers were 6-6 at home last season and the Knights were 5-7 away. The halves pairing of Soward/Wallace is better than the pairing of Dobson/Roberts for the Knights and I think this Panthers forward pack can be brutal and they would want to kick start their season off with a win at home. I also have big wraps on Kingston at hooker for the Panthers, this guy is a work house.
Dragons vs West Tigers: Tigers H2H - $1.90
I am a Tigers fan and I will not be bias at all this season but the only reason why I love the Tigers to beat the Dragons is because of what Luke Brooks did to them last season in his one and only appearance. Tigers didn't win too many last year but they won I think 32-14 last time they met. No real home advantage as this game is being played at Homebush. Both teams were poor last season and seeing the performance that the Dragons put in the other day against the Rabbits in the charity shield, how can I not take the Tigers in this game.

Thanks mate. The other games so far this week are a bit tough to call but I really like these 2 games. Liked the Cowboys as well but the line is pretty big considering its the first week.

Rain is forecast in Sydney for the rest of the week and the weekend apparently. Combine this with rust and unders might be the play this weekend.
Completely agree Rostos and I don't think many big teams will be throwing the ball around too much but I do like the over in Eels vs Warriors with Johnson on fire of late.

But in saying that, I wonder what impact the rule changes are going to have on totals. Apparently the clock is going to stop in the last 5 minutes whenever their is a stoppage in play?
Interesting to see if the books already factor that in or they will be behind. I suppose no one really knows until a few rounds get in.

Panthers have made some great acquisitions in the off season along with Parra. Those are my two dark horses for 2014.
Parra total season wins over 6.5 is worth a look
Sportsbet have a $100 refund for rounds 1 & 2 - will be laying some $$ on Panthers ML and Tigers (Both defenses are very leaky and both should hit 18 points)
BOL for the season

Thanks mate, good to see you fellas in the Rugby forum as well. You guys have done really well this season in NBA. Looking forward to seeing your plays this season as well.
Rostos - the rule changes are going to create higher scoring games IMO. Yeah the clock will be stopping for the last 5 mins of each half whenever the ball goes out or there is some kind of stoppage in play. For some teams, the last 5 mins of the half if bad because there are a lot of tries scored in the 35th + minute of each half.

So with the Cowboys now at -12 and the books expecting a 2 try + win for the Cowboys something is yelling at me to take the overs. The first 2 games went under, the Panthers vs Knights is also looking low scoring but I think this one will have around 8 tries. Im thinking something around 30-16 in favour of the Cowboys. There attack is crazy and I like Morgan have FB because he is a good size and can run, then you have JT and Lui in the halves. Raiders always leak points on the road and so does Ricky Stuart. This guy does not know how to coach defense. Will stick with the overs instead of the ATS.
