Pre-tournament Analysis: Hello Coverians hope you're all doing well, it's that time again folks World Cup football can't beat it I thought I'd do a thread as it makes it easier to track all my plays please do not tail me I do not encourage you to follow me this is all done because I love the analytical side of studying games and sharing my knowledge of the sport, this is purely for World Cup discussion having a good time and having one easy place to track my progress. in terms of the non football relative I prefer to keep politics out.
Now lets start by discussing Argentina, a team that has everything a strong tactical manager with a nice blend of youth and experience in defence Otamendi,Martinez,Romero are solid in all aspects to there game I really like the strength in fullback area, Foyth is a solid RB have no idea why Tottenham let him go, deep midfield is a little worry in terms of I like Paredes,Palacios,Guido Rodriguez, however can they make the transition from top talent to world beaters? De Paul and Di Maria are excellent attacking midfielders/wingers I have no worry in attack too the little man Leo and Martinez have created a formidable partnership, on a 35 match unbeaten run and won the Copa America in 2019 I like them a lot however Brazil are potential semi final opponents I think it will be either Argentina or Brazil winning it this year but I can't take them at +350, I had Argentina last World Cup too when Romero got injured right before the start of the tournament but they look much stronger now and Martinez the goalkeeper I've watched many times in England a very solid keeper I hope Scaloni's lack of experience doesn't harm him as this is the World Cup completely different level to winning the Copa America.
Serbia are my underdogs the manager sets up in a strong well balanced 352 with SMS (Sergej Milinkovic-Savic) providing support to Vlahovic and Mitrovic this is the best Serbian team I've seen I think they will have too much for Switzerland and Cameroon, potential quarter final opponents Uruguay or Portugal I think they can snatch a win against Portugal in my opinion and for me have a better side than the Uruguayan's great value taking them to progress from group stage and quarter final. England I expect a strong tournament I expect them to reach the semi's again even though France await in quarters I feel the French a missing too much quality in midfield and this England squad looks well balanced getting Kalvin Phillips on the pitch fit and ready is crucial too out of all the squads the three favs for me are Brazil,Argentina,England I think Spain and Germans will do well but those three squads along with the managers, Tite,Southgate,Scaloni have the right attributes needed to spearhead World Cup victory, the strong squads along with the type of coaches and applied with there previous experiences makes me believe them three have the best ingredients to get their hands on the trophy.
I'm taking a chance on Iran but I just do not fancy USA or Wales apologies to my friends across the pond and my Welsh brothers but this is purely down to previous experiences I've had and value play, Iran have a nice team Sardar Azmoun is impressive up top along with Taremi really good midfield a few players in there with Premier League experience too Jahanbakhsh will provide vital quality supply to there attack a clever operator with bags of high level match experiences, but what makes them a value play for me is Carlos Queiroz love this man totally underrated, Alex Ferguson once said he's the closet anyone's been a Man Utd manager without actually having the job.

Pre-tournament Analysis:- Poland really good side more experienced toughen up from previous tournament woes, coach has them set up to do well in his 352 system similar to Serbia always careful when going against the Mexicans always do well in tournaments really good side talented players as always but feel like there missing something there maybe it's the aging spine who knows, never like backing a team with there focal point not having much minutes for a while, Jimenez has rarely played Lozano is excellent but he need's more help up top very close call but Poles edge this one for me.
Ecuador can play just look at there qualifying record was really impressed by them, I do not give the hosts a chance in hell one of the worst hosts to host the World Cup (and I mean that in footballing terms) I understand the hosts record in groups is good but just take a look as a footballing side this has to be the poorest.
Couple of goalscorer props Enner Valencia still going strong main man for Ecuador hoping he bags a penalty, Dusan Vlahovic for me is the most exciting forward in the world football right now along with Victor Osimhen, Dusan should take the world stage by storm this guy is a machine definitely love the price I'm getting for him to outscore his comrades.
Best wishes to everyone I can't wait to get stuck into the games.

Bolly great to see you too mate! I understand your pessimism mate I really do but I haven't seen a poorer Spanish, German & French team than these in the last 10-15 years, As an Englishman just believe we are part of the elite nations, some reason I sense a bit of steel in this team Southgate has carved throughout the years, not easy on the eye granted but they look like a proper tournament team in recent events, nations league get that out of your head pal.

Qatar v Ecuador:- Full Time Result (Ecuador) +140 1 Unit
Analysis:- I know it seems risky fading the hosts opener but Ecuador are simply better, you always need to put some action in the first game to get the juices flowing but I really like the danger Ecuador possess in all departments, very strong on set pieces midfield is strong and fast but smart and technical when needed Carlos Gruezo offers the latter mentioned along with Moises Caicedo providing the physical traits to suffocate the hosts.
The real game changer for me is Ecuador's fullbacks they will make the difference opening up spaces for the clever attacking operators to strike, the experienced Gustavo Alfaro compared to Qatar's young Spanish coach will be glaringly obvious I feel coaches have an even bigger effect this World Cup considering five substitutions per a game, less than a week to prepare for the start of the tournament and having the opportunity to call up 3 extra squad players, it will all be very telling.
On another point the hosts lost to Croatia U23s two months ago auto fade

Qatar v Ecuador:- Full Time Result (Ecuador) +140 1 Unit WIN
= +1.40u
WC 2022 REC:- W1-L0 +1.40u
Post Match Analysis:- Well that was comfortable as expected but thought the hosts might've shown some sort of fight, as I thought Ecuador were too physical in the middle for them the full backs provided the threat hence an assist for the right back. Gustavo Alfaro showing his class and experience winning the tactical battle along with Enner Valencia showing the same things, the main finisher for this side with his movement and technical ability it's a no brainer for him to bag a few goals.

Mexico v Poland:- Asian Handicap (Poland -0) +115 1 Unit
Analysis:- I have Poland to advance from this group I think they have more to offer going forward compared to Mexico, midfield is physically stronger and faster I don't know how Herrera & Guardado will cope with Zielinski pulling the strings playing it safe as it's first game so a push if both sides settle for a draw but I have to say the Poles look a stronger team to me.
Pass on Argentina see no value, Arabian's are a better outfit than the hosts will be watching my outright pick closely to see how they gel against a side parking the camel.
Danes should win again no point risking this early, can see Tunisia scoring. France are in a mess again see no real value this tournament is a marathon not a sprint although tempted to put some on Mbappe as his beloved 'Pivot' is back lol Giroud should start and we all know how effective he is for Kylians game but at no + price it's a pass for me.
On another note 3 Lions looking great, was right not to back the Americans...look suspect at the back, thought Oranje would win but how terrible do they look?
Have a good one guys.

Post Match Analysis:- Remember when I said Arabians were better than Qatar? Looks like being cautious paid off first of all congratulations to Saudi Arabia they played their hearts out much respect, was never a penalty the Argentine was holding the Saudi player and dived terrible decision, Martinez goal ruled offside another terrible decision he was onside. Argentina looked out of ideas couldn't retain quality possession in the final third lacked authority in the match, everything was rushed there was no plan B, starting Papu backfired terrible decisions by Scaloni.
Tunisia should've scored glad I stayed away, although Denmark had some chances and never looked completely clueless like Argentina. France had a scare but knew Mbappe would score wait until they face real opposition.
Poland had a gameplan which I understand at some stages in this tournament you need to play that style but Mexico were there for the taking I said they were physically stronger just look at how they won the penalty, these things happen a missed PK but just can't help thinking the Poles could've got more from this game. The important part of analysing this game is Mexico "looked" like the better footballing side especially first half but Poland let them, they kind of didn't realize the weapons they had in attack and did not utilize them efficiently, more importantly most experienced football fans know you can control a match without possession Poland knew what they were doing Mexico didn't really pose any danger so the pre analysis has been pretty much spot on so far this World Cup much as I expected from the teams except for the obvious camel in the room.
Experience paid off taking the PK instead of Poland win, first games you just don't know how these teams will come out especially with lack of preparation time.

Group Qualification:- Ecuador (Yes) +110 1 Unit Iran (Yes) +375 1 Unit Poland (Yes) +100 1 Unit Serbia (Yes) +110 2 Unit

Top Team Goalscorer:- Enner Valencia (Ecuador) +225 0.5 Unit Dusan Vlahovic (Serbia) +300 0.5 Unit
Well this is embarrassing, was just doing some book keeping rechecking future bets seems I cashed out my outright before any action LOL!
Looks really dodgy I know after there defeat but was an honest mistake I will explain in further detail below.
So my book allows me to cash out bets with no action with full refund, if you notice earlier in the thread I had Argentina to reach final +300 but the price changed the next day to +333 and I could cash out and place the bet again with the improved price this numpty had one too many and I only noticed now because I was checking everything again I cashed out the outright winner Argentina +550 instead and placed two bets on then to reach the final one before at +300 and +333 unreal, I can't cash the +300 so will let it run 2 units to reach the final both bets looked doomed anyway but a blessing in disguise maybe? I can get +900 for the outright but I think I will wait a little longer to decide backing an outright.
That's the reason and really I need this thread to track my progress makes everything easier don't really care if it looks intentional but I've come out and explained it, I don't encourage anyone to tail me this is mostly for fun the tracking is the only serious part.

Don't see any real value for tomorrow looks like all 4 faves should win but at these prices not worth it handicap or win to nil & props not worth it considering lack of preparation times, first game syndrome, 5 substitutions less game time for your potential goal scorer better match ups and value ahead

So just to make it clear guys Argentina outright +550 1 unit was cancelled & Argentina to reach final +300 was left running by mistake a few days before start of tournament, I don't expect the Argies to beat Brazil in the semis after today but you never know stranger things have happened, and I don't really want to lay another unit on Argentina outrights until seeing all the teams play.

make nice to see you around. hope all is well. lovely start to Serie A ehhh?? on the Serbs as well, but might advise that Dusan isnt 100%, at least when he left the facility. groin injuries are always unpredictable and he didnt look good in any of our practices. so hopefully the time off helped. gl the next few weeks. ill try to stop in when can.

Uruguay v South Korea:- Both Teams to Score (Yes) +120 1 Unit
Brazil v Serbia:- European Handicap (Serbia +1) +188 1 Unit
Analysis:- Korea have found the net 8 times in there last 9, Son Heung-min & Hwang Hee-chan provide great attacking energy and penetrative nous should be like kryptonite to that aging Uruguayan defence. Paulo Bento is an attacking coach loves to score goals, Korea have scored 95 goals in 53 matches since he took charge and his Portugal team notched up 91 in 43 very impressive, 1.66 goals per a game average goals his whole managerial career more crucially international career average goals is 1.86, Uruguay do always set up well but this is a different challenge for them if there pragmatic in there approach Korea might suffer if they stick to there typical compact style Bento & his boys will have them for breakfast.
Serbia is my dark horse and favoured value side in this World Cup typically getting a lot of value for them against the Brazilians, from what we've have seen lately first games are always tough for the heavy faves will be interesting to see how they break down this excellent well drilled Serbian side, Eastern European nations have started slow this tournament (Poland, Croatia) so lets hope they do better, pressure will all be on Brazil and I have a feeling there defence will create some holes for Vlahovic, Mitrovic & SMS to eat up.
Pass on Switzerland Cameroon not a big fan of Murat Yakin the manager but don't really like this Cameroon team it lacks a particular spine needed for tournament football although first game why bother risking your money on the Swiss at those prices.
Pass Portugal no value Ghana can cause a shock but they're similar to Cameroon however Addo is a good coach with BVB background, all the Ronaldo interview chatter might cause disharmony in the camp horrible odds if it were a slightly better team than Ghana in my opinion I would've laid some action on the underdog.
Highlight for the World Cup for me has to be Asano 2-1 Rudiger LOL oh how I just love the Japanese getting there own back on Rudi eh serves you right!
Good luck peeps.

"making a comeback?" I guess we have a different definition of that phrase. wish we could sack him but its much cheaper to keep him (go figure). in same boat with you regarding Serb futures, hope they keep it close. GL today.
