Not entirely sure to be honest. Just those months tend to be down months. However, I expect a nice bump once they announce interest rates will be cut. But don't expect a big bump, the expected interest rate cut is already priced in.
I think one of the reasons for the down months in September/October is the lack of volume. Less trading going on. 2nd quarter earnings for the most part have been revealed. Hedge funds sell positions to lock in profits. And I think historically the spectre of previous market crashes (1929, 1987) has put fear into the market during these months.
