You hit the nail on the head there, answered your question already. Stretching there defense being wary of the wingers & Benzema, its always easy to fall into the trap of looking at previous teams performance and thinking the next match up will be the same.
I just realized what would Ecuador be thinking? Exactly what you just said...think about it they need this win bad, the Swiss have a horrible goal difference so I'm thinking they just need the 1-0 win they don't do well scoring so they parked the bus and hoped for a few chances, no way they were going to compete with Frances 2nd string side, a side lets not forget blessed with very good back up talent who want to prove to Deschamps a place in the starting line up.
Apply that with Ecuadors poor conversion rate, I couldn't pass on the draw, yes very lucky at the end considering the sending off, but I just thought Ecuador won't make it easy for France to score on them, nor did I think France would concede, hence the under.

This is the Germans they like to control the game and humiliate the opponent, worse case I see 2-0 I don't think USA have the goalscoring threat maybe on set pieces this is because they won't have much of the ball, the Germans stay compact and look stronger as the competition goes on so I don't see any counter attacking threat either.
Bare in mind USA don't play against these kind of sides often, different kettle of fish for them quality prevails and theres a reason why USA are +1000, no one should take the draw at such a low price especially between a match up of these two sides.
