I think what I'll look at is to bet to win X amount on the first part and do the IF bet for 1/2 X for the second part. If you lose the first part, you would have lost the parlay anyway. If you win the first part, betting only 1/2 for the second part assures a profit even with a loss, which would have cost the whole parlay previously.
Maybe I'll try and go back and run through a few previous years to see how that would have worked. Betting to win $100 on the first and $50 on the second part would be a $150 win on each of those parlays instead of $260 on my original numbers. Will be curious to see how many partial wins we can get from the previous losses.
When testing I think I'll use the total as the first part since that seems more likely to hit than a heavy favorite covering a big number while staying under the total. We shall see.
