Exactly, right on mick. And that's a good point I need to keep reminding myself day-after-day.. IF this was a Premium Service some of these wagers would be absolutely horrendous. It's a big part of the discipline required for this industry, which I know I possess to a great extent - but lose it completely on certain events from time to time. Right now, I feel I'm focused on everything except NFL. Like I said last night, this Sport does weird things to my head and I often go overboard getting wrapped up in the excitement of the games. It's the one area where I often fail to separate personal emotion (an extreme love of the game) from the business aspect of investing.
Last night was a prime example.. I already had a Teaser pending on a Patriots victory, plus I made a reasonable 5% In-Game wager in the 2nd Quarter, and which point I'm sure everyone still thought New England would still win the game. The Halftime wager was completely ludacris. Again, I was so emotionally involved in the game it fully clouded my better judgement - and I wasn't even drinking!
It's hard enough to survive during a cold streak (which everyone has at some point, no matter how good they are) but it makes things even harder when you also have to account for a "loss of discipline" day or two.
And like you said, it is your choice on whether to tail or not, as this is a Free Service. But I should be treating this 100% as if this is a Premium Service, and quit being so reckless with my own money at times..
HaHa, I moved out of my parents place when I was 18 but I know what you mean about those "sheltered" people.. For the past couple of years up til this past Summer I lived with 2 roommates. One is a professional poker player and the other was on the road to becoming a pro poker player while also dabbling in the sports investment business with myself. I also played a lot of poker but was not doing it professionally, altho I believe I could if I really wanted. At that point I received a "normal" job offer in Calgary and had accepted it, so I sold pretty much everything I own except my laptop and clothes and was going to fly out there. A couple weeks later I changed my mind and decided to stay here in Nova Scotia (still open for debate on the verdict of that decision..) but I had already given up my condo so had to find a new place. I actually did crash on my dad's couch for 2 weeks at the end of August until I was able to move into my new (current) place the 1st of September. I accepted a different "normal" job here in town as a Retail Manager for a security firm. Right now, I absolutely hate where I live, and where I work.. which brings me to my current "fork in the road" situation where I am looking at making another change..
I'm still not ready to make the full leap to doing Sports Investing as a career, as evidenced by my periodic lapses of judgement, which I fully own up too.. but I will get there sooner than later. For now, I continue to work in the trenches of the daily 9-5 System and grind with a small bankroll as I strive to gain 100% mental focus of everything in my life.
Now let's kick some Ass today..

BANKROLL: $8,477.07
OVERALL RECORD: 102-113-7 (47.44%)

PROFIT: -$1,522.93
ROI %: -2.61%
NHL
Boston Bruins ML (-151) (OT included)
2% $169.54 to win $112.28
With a home-n-home tonight and tomorrow, we'll back the better home team in the opener.
New Jersey Devils ML (+105) (OT included)
3% $254.31 to win $267.03
New Jersey is as hot as they've been all season. Good value here against the still lowly Islanders.
San Jose Sharks ML (+111) (OT included)
1% $84.77 to win $94.09
Sharks hold a signifcant edge in Special Teams here, and a big PP Goal could be the difference. The recent hot streak of Phoenix is the only thing holding this to 1%.
Montreal Canadians -0.5 (+105) (regulation)
3% $254.31 to win $267.03
Calgary's recent success is rather deceptive if you break the games down. Montreal is the better team and will be tough to beat on home ice.
That's it for the NHL today.. will have NBA before 1pm EST.

Parley (+163)
David Ferrer (-500)
Jelena Jankovic (-278)
Nadia Petrova (-164)
1.5% $127.16 to win $207.27
I'm no stranger to Tennis. I've made a lot of money in the past from Live Betting these events. I usually parley the early rounds until the odds get better later on. I'll play it small early on.

NBA
Memphis Grizzlies -5 (-101)
2% $169.54 to win $167.86
This isn't a play against the Bulls due to Carlos Boozer maybe being out. This is a play against Rose and Bulls due to their emotional, very personal win over Miami. Rose didn't push for LeBron to come to Chicago last off-season cuz he knows he can be the one to lead this team and he had a point to prove last game, which he did very well. It's an afternoon letdown spot for the Bulls against a pretty good Memphis squad on their homecourt right now.
Houston Rockets -5 (-105)
1% $84.77 to win $80.73
Dallas Mavericks -4.5 (-102)
4% $339.08 to win $332.43
Dirk is back and the Mavs are desperate for a W. No better chance than today against the lowly Pistons. There are no trends here to suggest the Pistons have a legit shot at the upset so we'll play the short line. The Mavs free throw % from their top guys should be enough to cover in the event of a close game, but I can see them winning outright here by 8-9.
That's it except NCAA Basketball, where there will be 2-3 plays in the later games. Will post later..

I love Halifax. Dunno about living there, as it is a bit isolated from everything, but what a great city to visit. Nova Scotia in general, honestly. My brother lives there, so I have occasion to go from time to time. Damned long drive, but worth it.
Coincidentally, my other brother lives in Ottawa. Another excellent city, albeit no CFL team.
Calgary? The jury is out. I lived in Edmonton for two years, and that I would not recommend. At least with Calgary the Rockies are close.

True, but you do have Uno Pizza. My brother in Halifax is in the process of moving to Chicago (new wife). I went to visit him last March, and had a great time.
Never been a fan of any of their sports franchises, though!

Pittsburgh Panthers -6 (-101)
5% $423.85 to win $419.65
Syracuse hasn't played a game outside the New York area yet this year, so this will be their first "true" road game and altho they have a good squad, I think we'll find out they're not the kind of team who will be running deep into March. On the other side, the Pitt Panthers are one of the best teams in the Nation who no one is talking about. They are deep and talented. Oh yeah, they're 50-1 at home in the past 51 games, too. Syracuse will also be without Kris Joseph, their leading scorer. This actually hurts us here since I've been waiting to back Pitt here for a couple weeks now, so we're losing a couple of points to the spread. Even still, I'm confident the Panthers roll over Syracuse in this spot.

I don't know what happened to Memphis or Dallas. I had money on them before I saw you had some, and when I saw you liked both of them I sprinkled a little bit more. Both teams look like they drank a little too much watching the NFL games yesterday. Both teams shot way below average from the field. Chicago and Detroit both have good defense, but not that good.
Good luck with Pitt tonight. Syracuse is due for a loss. Like the under in that game too.
