How do you calculate for this game when there is potentially 3 players who have never faced the starting pitcher Rich Harden ?
For Phillies vs Dodgers I have 5.65-7.09 so I'm fine with your over. I have the Cardinals winning at 6-3 though :(
you do not need(and this is made very clear) the entire line-up to face the pitchers that are designated, only the ones available. However, the "read" and your play gets a stronger lean when more batters are involved; in principal, these games should be by-passed, but still looked at.for value plays(RL,dogs)

diamonddicer / to answer your question regarding this formula, it's a new formula I am working on, and getting ready to publish, and document, in experimental form, as was done with Base_Runs.. I was asked to publish the formula in advance for research purposes...excuse the confusion.......

Your question is far from "stupid" when it is answered, the door will be opened for your entrance to understanding, and application

you have connected sabermetrics to MLB stats, and have penetrated the use of Base_Runs formula/Runs_Created...the rest is trial, and error, with added research, as you can see, this is not for a lazy handicapper, or someone that has no ulterior motives for financial gain
