Do you think that this is a similar system/formula that Accuscore uses to predict games? They advertise that they simulate the games over 10,000 times and I would imagine that they have to base their simulations on historical statistical data.
I have used Accuscore as a component of my capping sides and whether or not the line available to me is over/under priced based on the predicted % of chance for a particular side to win. I haven't been able to use it with totals though, because the free simulated prediction available on a common sports website that I'm sure we all know only gives % chance to win, it doesn't give the actual predicted score.
Network, I am also assuming that your formula doesn't take into account being home/away and the weather/umpire conditions? I guess that is where you use other tools of capping that you mention and not just this formula.

Accuscore is a very mis-leading projection, they seldom if ever give any dog play, the claim of 10,000 applications, is a marketing tool to capture your attention.. Baseball only has 272 period....i personally find Accuscore a joke as far handicapping a ball game; they have no foundation except bait, and sell...
NO it does not take these factors in account, it's pure sabermetrics, I would recommend you go to baseball1.com click "sabermetrics" this will give you a detailed description of applying sabermetrics to baseball stats successfully in handicapping form

Thanks Network, fortunately I haven't paid for a subscription there I just use the free analysis and try to evaluate the line using that among other factors. I have actually notices a bunch of underdog plays in there but that could be because my book happens to overvalue favorites, instead of actually predicting the dog to win.
I'm going to check that site out right now. I would love to profit from these theories and hopefully I can pick it up and learn it sooner rather than later and apply it correctly.

Hi guys.....I just got in from work and reading through the thread.Looks like we have some interest in working together, especially from
Heavin-cent,
gambool,
KC1234,
ca-cris
rman1049
diamonddicer
I think by sharing the work each day we could help each other make some cash and not have SN do all the work by himself.
Sports_network
I would like to start out by adding myself to your email list for plays and understand that if,ok with you, that you could email out your plays when you have time but only if you are doing analysis that day.I would like to compare not only my numbers but our groups to see if we our correctly applying the formula(s).
Can you add me as a friend and I will send you my email address?.....
Also....do you suggest we continue to converse on your thread?sharing our picks and fomula calculations or start up a new thread.either way I (we)hope you could continue to participate as your time permitts.
I understand that atleast 3 of you gambool,heavin-cent and ca-cris are already doing your own calculations and the results are not the same as SN's,but it sounds like you are starting to make progress.
I am starting tonight by doing some research as suggested by SN
and try my hand at a few calculations to see what I com up with.
one site I found so far:
Pitcher vs Batter lifetime at baseball-reference.com/play-index/
includes IBB stats...etc
Lets keep the ball moving waiting for replies as to how we all want to proceed.

I ran the numbers for the METS game and I got 8.52 which would have been over by 1.5. Still need to do the Cle/CHW to see what I would have got.
SF/WSH I got 7 runs which would be under the 8.5.
I do not incorporate the pen when I do which is not going to be accurate but we ll see how it does for now. Its alot of work to get both RP and Closer.
I might try and widdle it down to 5 innings where I can eliminate the pen. This would get rid of the noise that can cause a fluctuation in numbers. Have to change it a bit but may be profitable.

Nice work Heavin-cent........and I do mean workHow long did it take you to do this?
After doing 4 hours of reading I'm not sure I am up to this challenge....sorry to get all excited before doing the required reading which I think is more like 40 hours atleast.I was putting the proverbial cart before the horsemust have got to excited with the big 70% win rate.
If I understand this right...u take the starting lineup for both teams and each players lifetime offensive stats against the starting pitcher?Man that is a lot of work and I don't see how it is possible getting home at 6pm and researching all this info before a 7pm game?
Then put it through the formula also factoring in middle relief and closer???
I would do the work but would need a step by step process to follow and maybe an excel spreadsheet with the formula!Unfortunately this might be to difficult for me,but if we can work out some sort of system between us I would participate.
Heavin...I was thinking the same thing about looking at 5 inning plays after my brain became

Once we can figure out the exact formula through trial and error, then we will need somebody with the computer skills to put it in an excel format so it does not take hours to compute each day...
Any computer software experts out there have any suggestions???
I will send a few friend requests out so we can try to develop this further...
Great work so far guys, I have been tied up with work to get deep into this, trying to start reading the book first...
Then onto calculations, sounds like you guys are making some progress!!!
Continued success!!!

For how many formulas are out there for this none seem to be too accurate, need to figure out whats missing. All numbers seem to be too high

This would be a no play but just to throw my number out and see if it is close to others
ARZ/CIN - 9.89 RUNS
SF/WSH - 7
like i said earlier in the thread I had 5.66-2.57 for SF/WSH so not too far from your number. Didn't do the calc for ARZ/CIN as there were too many batters that never faced the starting pitcher in Cin.

Will it be possible for us to ever figure this out since it seems as if Network made "adjustments" after every phase to refine his system. I would think that it isn't just as simple as applying the general formula to the numbers....any thoughts?

So the picks a couple of posts above are the result of this new formula? Forgive me but I'm confused can you please explain? I read the thread twice...thanks for all of you hard work with these formulas and posting!

I'm ready. I've got time enough, computer skills and good friends, who can create excel file or program to calculate fast and simple. I strongly believe in math and stats, but I'm former pro basketball coach from EU and don't understand baseball enough for successfully using this formula :( And its also very difficult for me to read all that articles and books about baseball, because of the very specific English terms :(
