Microsoft ended speculation as to whether it would slash the price of its Xbox 360 console when it announced it will cut the price by $50 Aug. 8.
A 20GB hard drive console will retail for $349.99, including a wireless controller and headset, while a core system will retail for $279.99. The Xbox 360 Elite, with a 120GB hard drive, will retail for $449.99.
Earlier reports had the price cut pegged to Aug. 12.
“The fact that we have been able to keep our launch price longer than any other console while retaining our leadership position demonstrates that consumers believe in the value of Xbox 360,” said Mitch Koch, corporate VP, global retail sales and marketing group, entertainment and devices division at Microsoft.
Additionally, the Xbox 360 Halo 3 Special Edition Console will hit stores in September at $399.99, with a 20GB hard drive, headset, and Xbox 360 play and charge kit, and green-and-gold finish and matching wireless controller. Halo 3 streets Sept. 25.
