Tiafoe and Federer have met before. That was back in March, when the two players crossed each other’s paths in the second round of the Miami Open. I think Tiafoe has rid most of butterflies of that first encounter with the legend from his system, and will present a tougher performance against Federer this time around. Tiafoe showed readiness for the US Open, when he defeated Zverev in the second round in Cinci before giving John Isner a run for his money in a classic let down spot. Having played Fed before and taking him to a tie break in that first set and recently notching a top 6 win to his resume should help him dismantle the aurora of invincibility so many players seem to envision when stepping on the same court as these legends. Tiafoe could also be looking to capitalize on Federer’s rust. Federer didn’t participate in Cinci because of back trouble, which may or may not still be an issue in the US Open. I know what I'm getting in Tiafoe and there is a big question mark for fed. Obviously I expect Fed to win this but just hoping for a similar match as we saw last night. 7-6 6-3 6-3 gets it done here. Give me the 8 game head start
