Three years ago I predicted djokovic would win 10 slams or fewer

It&#x27;s 1-1 first set v raonic btwIt doesn&#x27;t matter who believes me abt 3 yrs ago. He had just beaten rafa in the 2012 aussie open in a 5 setter which was his 4th slam out of the prior 5 slam events and came off a dominating 2011.How did I know he would come back to earth?  Because I could see that even though he&#x27;s a great talent he is not a next level generational talent like fed or rafa.I saw it a mile away. Since my prediction he has only won 2 slams. He sits at 7. My prediction back then took balls because he was so b dominant in 2011.Djokovic legacy won&#x27;t touch rafa or fed.  Not even sampras

i have a really good buddy who is a Djoko fanatic so back then we wagered an all expense paid dinner at Morton's Steakhouse consisting of appetizer, two drinks, entree, and dessert. It will probably cost between $150-200 per person. for me, this is a sizable wager.

the wager can only be cashed in by my buddy if Djoko hits 11 slam wins, and can only be cashed by me if Djoko officially stays retired for at least 2 years and finishes with 10 slams or fewer

absolutely horrible analogy.  3 yrs ago Djoko had 5 slams including having won 4 of the prior 5 that were played (2011 he won the aussie, wimby and us open, then the 2012 aussie).to come up w a wager that he would not be able to surpass doubling that total when he was only 24 yrs young at the time, was pretty wise.95% of you on this forum probably thought the Over 10.5 would have been the play.  you would have fallen for it.to say something like "15 yrs ago......less than 25 slams....." that is asinine and nowhere near a good analogy.

15 yrs ago in 2000 Nadal was 13 yrs old.

25 slams was 12 more than the record at the time (roy emerson had 13 and i believe sampras had 12 or 13. he did not pick up #14 until the us open 2002).

my point is, the Asomunga tittie-funga is exaggerating both ways.

my pick was a very reasonable one with a prediction that was something extremely realistic in terms of an over-under at the time on Djoko career wins.

Hendrix your comparison and prediction is terrible, and who cares? Joker plays better now than he did in 2011 so your point about "I knew Djokovic would come back to earth" is as wrong as it can possible be, Djokovic is on another planet now and hes playing absolutely fantastic. If you made a Nadal prediction in 2011 that he wouldnt win garbage, that hes againg and he would come back to earth, then you would be right, but Djokovic is progressing and is getting better and better and hes gonna win aus open this year as well, so wth is your point? Your point is way off if you have any.

you guys are missing the point. back in late january 2012 when i predicted this and made the wager with my buddy, Djoko was more dominant than he his right now and his 2011 season was arguably the best ever on record in the history of the open era. his won loss percentage was mind boggling. he won 3 of the 4 slams in 2011 (not the french obviously) and then won the 2012 aussie. 4 out of 5.

he was 24 yrs young and sitting at 5 slams in his career. how did i know that setting the over under at 10.5 slams would convince my buddy (a humongous tennis enthusiast, very knowledgeable, but too fanatical on Djoko) to take the wager?

since that 5th slam, there have been 11 slams completed and Djoko has only won two. TWO!! this after winning 4 of the previous 5 from Jan 2011 through 2012.

most of you here fell for it didn't you? you thought he was going to be the next fed or rafa and dominate tennis, didn't you?

Hendrix Djok probably wont win more than 10 slams. But I wouldnt bet my life on it. Lets say he take this A/O. thats 8 right there. He is in good company on the alltime slam board with the likes of Connors, Llendl and Agassi. Then we get to the French. If any man apart from Nadal is going to win that its Djok. And the way Nadal is at the moment. This could be his year at Roland Garros. Then we get to Wimbledon. With Federer in serious decline. Murray will be Djoks only serious competition on grass.

And you can never count Djok out of the U.S open either. So when you think about it like that. 2015 could potentially be a repeat of 2011 for Djokovic. Which would leave him with 10 slams.

Now im not about to bet anything that he wouldnt add at least 1 more for the remainder of his career. At the very worst he will be at 8 by the close of 2015. But could well be at 10. Lets see. This really will be an interesting year for Djokovic...

Sentinel, good points but i take pride that in the 11 slams completed since my wager/prediction, Djok only has 2 slam wins. something tells me Rafa will be rejuvenated and ready at both the French and Wimby. don't forget that Rafa is a strong grass player and most of the recent years the grass has played slower (the two years he bowed out early notwithstanding). i also believe that Raonic or Dimitrov will make a big move this year, maybe both of them. also add in that Del Potro and Tsonga should bounce back from injuries by the French and Wimby.

Sure, Wawa and Murray will still be kicking around as well as the young guns like Nish, Dimitrov, Raonic but Djokovic will still be well within his prime at the time and the favorite to win basically every tournament.

It was 3 yrs ago and I said he was done winning majors on everything but clay.  He&#x27;s won a whopping 1 major off the red dirt in that 3yr time period.  And if you think he&#x27;s about to win more majors off the clay in the coming years, think again.  That body isnt about to get healthier as he gets older.

Going forward, Novak&#x27;s body isnt going to betray him like we KNOW Nadal&#x27;s will.  Novak has also shown he&#x27;s got a great chance to win majors on every surface whereas Nadal is completely shot to hell on the grass at this point.  He is only better on 1 of 4 major surfaces than Djoker - the red dirt.

You are in trouble. Its a good job you didnt bet serious money on this. Or you arent due a beating if you lose. You see the gap between the field and Serena Williams in the womens game. Its almost as great now in the mens game. Djokovic is actually hitting his PEAK NOW. And thats terrible new for the reast. The rest of the big 4 are in decline. Especially Federer. The new guns simply arent good enough. What this means just for 2015. Djokovic could finish this year with at least 10 slams. Then you know he is certain to add to that over the remainder of his career. He virtually owns the AO like Federer has owned Wimbledon and Nadal the FO. He could easily with it a few more times.
