Unbelievable let down , up 5-2 1st set to losing in a tie breaker. Than giving up second set
That was rough, but very competitive. Thanks for wgomel and bringit’s contributions to the Tennis section. I would say they’re my two favorites in this section of the forum and we all appreciate a continued effort to help cap collaboratively because there’s nothing quite as rewarding as somebody other than myself being reward for placing on a play that one choose to make. We share that sacrifice and together and it’s symbolic for the brotherhood to that we share as human beings. Let’s have a great week, gentlemen

@TipUrUsher
She was up 5-0. Then with Tomova serving for the set at 6-5 she miraculously saves 6 set points, is up 4-2 at the changeover in the breaker, then just folds again. Tomova had to be at least 50 to 1 to win that first set

Excellent words my friend and that's what this is all about.
The 250s and 500s are where we really killed it last year so let's get it this week.

Let's get the conversation started. Just glancing at tonight's matchups, without studying them, these are the players on my radar:
Polina: she has obviously been playing the best tennis of her life lately. The question is if or when the market will catch up with her value. I was high on Birrell going into the open but she was a disappointment.
Gadecki: Really like her. She's riding a five match losing streak but that's mostly been against much better players. Uch hasn't done much winning lately either. The x factor for gadecki could be that she's a newly crowned grand slam champion (mixed doubles). There were many times during their run where she looked like the best player on the court. I've never seen her play that well. Obviously that's a much different format but one of the biggest things that 100ish level players need in order to break through is confidence, and winning a slam at home can work wonders in that department. Emotions are a big part of women's tennis, especially for players outside the top 20 or so, and confidence can wax and wane as the wind blows but our goal is to jump on them when it's there.
Maria: speaking of confidence, Stdub was looking like a real rising star from the us open into the first part of the Asian swing but has since come back down to earth losing several matches in a row, many or most of them to low quality players. Maria is coming off of winning a w100 title.
Teichmann: I watched her come through qualies and her serve was just ridiculous in these conditions. Dart had a decent run in Australia but she has major consistency issues. And there's something to be said about players who come through qualies with momentum and the edge of having familiarity with the surface conditions. Kind of like Salkova and Waltert.

@jvarghese
The first 4 games were just awful for her. But she seemed to start finding her stroke somewhat later in the set. That break to end the set hurt though.

That's the double edged sword of women's tennis.
Polina came out playing like it was a year ago and Birrell came out playing like she was playing before she crapped the bed against Lys.

I'm still leaning towards Maria and also kind of like Townsend. But going to wait and see how the other two play out.
Bigger opportunities will be available after we've seen the players on this surface. Which is one reason I really like Teichmann.

Qualifiers are 3-0 so far against main draw entrants (excludes the Wei match between 2 qualifiers). Timofeeva, the LL, is also up a set.
Surface familiarity matters when you're not a top level player.
