Random excerpt form an actual coversexpert opining on another website several years ago:
"Jon brought up the "Overtime Insurance" issue in last week's conference call. This was a promotion that a prominent Las Vegas sports book had been taking a look at for an NCAA basketball tournament, and our input was asked for on the concept. This was back in the days when the limits were much higher here on the strip, and the books were trying to find ways to write as much business as possible, instead of the current modes of operations. An audio tape of that show would include an explanation of what the concept was (the sports book in question would guarantee the bettor the regulation score pay-out on an underdog or an under, if you laid a heavier amount of vigorish on the wager; hence the "Insurance" notion), but also what the difficulties were going to be of implimenting it into a CBS system. Ultimately it was decided that it would be more trouble than it was worth, particularly because the data on the NCAA tourney in the 3-point shot/shot clock era (which had only been in place for 5 years at the time) did not offer enough data points to create a proper floating vigorish model."
Can you name that (actual) Covers expert lol... ???
What I believe this quote clearly reveals is two things:
First, that these cappers are not all blustery, testosterone-driven shills and action pushers (as some here have asserted on this thread). Second, that the covers site is not the most sophisticated place on the web (sorry folks) to discuss professional sports gambling. No offence to any of us, but it is best to recognize this - when was the last time you read a post like that on here??
Posters should recognize that they are not "above" the experts here, and consider that there are many other sites dedicated to discussion among professional gamblers which would open many an eye - especially compared with all the empty hating found here in this very thread........covers is more of a site for recreational gamblers to shoot the sh*t and I think if you KNOW what other sites and forums are actually out there you would agree. Maybe everyone should take a pill and respect the efforts of these guys even if their sales methods can be a bit aggressive (and over the top). I think we can tell the BS when we see it and recognize it for what it is... Covers should be understood for what it clearly is, a fun and accessible site for recreational sports bettors to hang out.
