I'm happy for the kid and I'm rooting for him, I really am.
Why can't he become one of the 3%ers who make it big?
He's single with no commitments, got his head on straight and focused, and seems humbled by his opportunity.
The only question is whether or not he can survive the storm that the Gambling Gods are certain to throw his way in their wrath and unfairness. Oh, it is coming. In due time. Can he survive?
Well, can you kid? Can you take the worst beatings? Because they will surely come. Can you swallow your pride and become a survivor? Because you will surely be tested.
I am rooting for you, really I am.

First off man, best of luck to ya. Very few people follow their passion in life and they are miserable for it. You're heart is clearly in it to win it so there is nothing anyone is going to say to change your mind.
Because of that, the only thing I have to add is to parrot what someone said about getting a Pinny account. In my humble opinion, anyone trying to do this for a living and make a real run at turning pro must have an account there. Juice is everything when you are this serious. Someone mentioned before about shopping lines and that certainly is a priority. Pinny has to be included in that....man I sure miss my account there.
Anyways best of luck brotha. It will be interesting to see how this pans out for ya.

What is your bank size? If it isn't at least 6 figures then don't bother, you will either bet too small to generate both an income and build your bank, or you'll be betting too big for your bankroll and variance will kill you. If you don't have 200k then you are kidding yourself.
How many bets do you plan on having each year? If it isn't at least a few thousand then variance will kill you also.
Do you know how books work? Not just the theory of a balances book (which is a myth in practice). Go work in proper book and see how they operate, how winners work, the tricks used by books and pros. I don't mean as a ticket writer, but as a price assessor and managing a book.
Why move to Vegas? With half a brain you can have a Pinnacle account set up. You can therefore move to a better town then the most depressing city on earth, the whole sports betting industry there is basically a myth. Pinnacle will give you better prices and better limits. If you are as good as you think you are Vegas books will cut you within a month. Get as many outs as you can.
Do you know how to price an event? If I gave you a matchup between 2 teams can you give me your line? How accurate are your prices? Do your assess prices constantly beat the Pinnacle close? If you don't know then you won't survive. You should be able to price an event and your lines/probabilities before you even look at what a book has. Pros don't survive long term by betting trends or feel.
Do yo have a bunch of contacts? Do you know people who know more then you? Do you know information you can trade information with? Do you know anybody you can seek advice from about tough runs, moving money, beating limits, etc?
Do you think your winning % will hold up in these efficient markets? How will handle a losing run?
If you are serious then try and get a job in a reputable book, either in Vegas, the caribbean, or even try London. Learn how to price up an event, learn how to manage a bankroll. Learn how the pros win so you won't be doing this blind and learning expensive lessons. You will be paid to actually learn how to do this, without the stress of having to sweat a winner to pay the rent. Otherwise, if you want to blow your bank make it worthwhile and spend it seeing the world.
And ignore most of post #68

The heat is on, on the street
Inside your head, on every beat
And the beat's so loud, deep inside
The pressure's high, just to stay alive
'Cause the heat is on
The shadows high on the darker side
Behind those doors, it's a wilder ride
You can make a break, you can win or lose
That's a chance you take, when the heat's on you
When the heat is on
The heat is on, the heat is on, the heat is on
Yeah it's on the street
The heat is on

Understand that Friday is D-Day. After Friday you can lay down and die, or you can get up every day and fight, but that's it, there is no turning back.
You have no idea how this old man envies your opportunity.

Theone324- thank u for ur input but I am doing this. I will be betting $500-$1000 a game and in certain spots in football 5-15k I would see when I see a lock. Are u intrigued to see how I do? If not that's fine but I know I will do great at this as my only focus with no limits and the fact I get cash second after games I win will make me really value the money more than I ever would with any online book
I haven't read the whole thread yet....
I have a few thoughts...
If you are moving to Vegas to make money, and not for everything else that comes with being physically in vegas, there are better options for you. Ever thought of moving to the Caribbean, Europe, or Costa Rica? Open a Matchbook and Pinnacle acct, transfer money with Neteller and Skrill - and pay -103ish instead of -110ish. Big difference. And your cost of living could be significantly less.
Vegas is tough for getting the best line all the time. It isn't so easy to shop lines, hit a line quickly, and have cash at the right time at the right place. This is crucial for maximizing profit.
You say you are going to bet 5-15k occasionally - I can tell you firsthand - you will not be able to do this without them knowing who you are - and that involves tax paperwork. If you are comfortable with this - fine - but just letting you know it is part of the deal on wagers of this size.
Also, you should get very familiar with the US tax code. There are basically two different ways to file - as an amateur or professional - and it makes a huge difference in your situation. As a professional, you could write off all gambling related business expenses, including your transportation etc....
I also think you should seriously ask yourself the simple question "why have I been successful for 2 years"? See if you can come up with real reasons that are repeatable. It is possible that you just had a couple of lucky years, and you aren't really doing anything that will last. But it is also possible that you are on to something too - you just need to be honest with yourself here. If you think you are going to crystal ball handicap your way through life - I have yet to see it be possible. Develop and study analytics and predictive stat modeling.
Anyway - I wish you luck. I did something very similar to you about 15 years ago and never looked back. I didn't move to vegas - but quit my job and started gambling.
GL to you.

Your fatal flaw will be the belief that because you have gone 16-2 lately - that you can crystal ball handicap - or that somehow you understand this - or that you have a gift enough to do this consistently.
I don't believe it is possible to do this.
Just my opinion - but you haven't mentioned anything about strategy or method other than picking winners. Sorry - but you will have a 2-16 stretch too.
Anyway, GL with it. But I think you would be better off finding out WHY and HOW you win rather than concentrating on the fact that you have been winning.
I don't usually get in to bankrolls but a 30k bankroll - when you need to live off of that money too - is absurdly small. What will your monthly expenses be? Have you figured out how much you will have to make monthly to survive? What happens when you have your first really bad month - because it will happen....

Im rooting for him too.
But the "3% who make it" as you put it..... Its kind of like saying 3% of the general population become upper mgmt. at a corporation and why couldn't a homeless guy do that.
Well.... He doesn't have a college degree, he has no teeth, and he has no interest in studying his craft. The chances of him becoming that 3% are far less than someone who is prepared.
The "3%" who make it in gambling have some very distinctive traits that I haven't seen him say anything about.
But like you - I wish him well. This is not to dissuade him from his dream. He is going to do it anyway. And he should do it. But he should do it differently.

How much would health insurance cost me? Could i get Obama care? I figure my monthly expenses would be around 3K... counting rent, car payment, phone, student loan, food and entertainment... furnished apartments are shitt there and are an extra $500 a month so would make sense to buy furniture anyway.. so there is another one time payment of what? about 2.5K i would assume..
This is my dream but I would need to win 3K a month to break even. I could win 3K a week in football i feel and have proven that... basketball and baseball though idk... also the housing out there has horrible reviews. cockroaches everywhere..
currently i am making around 55K with OT a year... i put away 47K in my 401K in my first 5 years of working. I decided to put 9% away into my 401K each paycheck from the day i started working till now.... i am an idiot if i go out there arn't I? I mean it is a dream but that is a lot of cash to be throwing away. And i can still bet online now and hopefully find some new bookies.
for instance with youwager (great book) the most i can put in on a moneygram at once as of December is 1K... any books let u do moneygrams for 5K or so and would pay u if u won 20K?
also what about driving to the strip with 5K in cash in my pocket... much more convienent for me to just bet on my iphone or whatever. idk i have had some people around here who supported me try to give me a reality check. i was so hell bent on doing this but now i am having second thoughts...
any further opinions after hearing this?
betting is a big part of my life i freaking love it... can i work and get enough of a fix is my question only betting online.. I really feel i am good enough to bet big numbers and have proven that.. idk, confused what to do now

Vanzack.. i notice teams in basketball and baseball go on crazy over under trends...
I am good enough to bet football and win simply just using my own research.. but with basketball and baseball i was thinking to ride over under streaks once they hit three until they lose.
three for the case of a small sample size... for instance... the spurs had gone over 10 straight home games as of sunday night.. havent followed since so it might be 11 or 12 now idk.... point is if i used my rule of starting to bet the streak after 3 overs in a row i would be 7-0
Knicks had played 8 out of 9 unders in a row before christmas... so same thing i would be 5-1 in that stretch...
that would get me to 12-1 in 13 plays.... and ur simply riding a trend and don't have to analyze anything... i am thinking that is what the pro's do?
same thing in baseball.. think about it... teams go in hitting slumps for weeks... i think the Reds played 12 straight unders at one point last year... start riding that at 3 unders in a row and u go 9-0
rockies played like 10 of 12 over at home... same deal..
i am thinking that is the only way to go on huge runs and be able to do this soley for a living? u would know better than me. seems tons of teams are always riding some type of home or away o/u streak... where at least 7 out of 9 go over or 8 out of 10 go under etc...

Hey CG. This is a very interesting read. I am a lawyer and just gamble on the side. I am not sure why you have to move to Vegas given the ease of online gambling these days. Plus I am not sure the timing is right for you right now given your bread and butter of football is about done and hoops and baseball have been OK for you but by no means enough to make a living. I think you should continue saving and getting a good enough bankroll and do it full time in Sept. Those are my pithy two cents.
Go Ole Miss!!!

also what about driving to the strip with 5K in cash in my pocket... much more convienent for me to just bet on my iphone or whatever. idk i have had some people around here who supported me try to give me a reality check. i was so hell bent on doing this but now i am having second thoughts...
any further opinions after hearing this?
betting is a big part of my life i freaking love it... can i work and get enough of a fix is my question only betting online.. I really feel i am good enough to bet big numbers and have proven that.. idk, confused what to do now
sorry for some of these questions. i am not putting myself down but i will admit i was not blessed with great smarts. I am not great in the business world, but I feel i am brilliant when it comes to sports.. I can remember scores from almost any week of the nfl season and u could give me a random team and i could tell u there home and away record and be within 3 pts of almost every score week by week. yet i am so dumb in most other aspects of life.
just trying to use my strengths the best i can..
i am also an alcoholic who loves partying and women... i have had sex with over 75 women in my life... (my female boss asked me how many i had and i started writing them down) i am not proud by that amount but i love women what can i say.. just another aspect of why vegas would be awesome for me. I love throwing in a huge lip too during these games.. i already planned i would need about 7 cans for my 40 hour drive out there lol.

Brady I like the idea of going out there for football too. I can really read games well for the most part as u all have seen this year.. (college and pro) hitting right at 60% and when i really like a game it's usually a blowout winner.
I think with trends tho i might be able to do well in basketball and bases.. with my 30K bankroll tho it might be hard to DOMINATE.. and i still gotta win 3K a month just to break even i figured lol

just to get an idea of where i am in my life if it helps.
i could have married 5 diff girls and i broke up with them all by choice... like tonight i am seeing my old GF i met 3 years ago tonight actually.. figure fun night, boos, tons of sex but ill be out of there by 9 am tommorow to be home and relaxed for all my new years day games.
for me tho i like to go out with one of my girls friday night and drink, eat well and darn all night and early sat morn.. but i am always home in my crib by noon for all my action..
i am on adultfriendfinder and have been since my bama days as well. i have had sex with 10+ milfs from that site.. u wouldnt believe how much they love young men... it's amazing to me how hot some of these women are and most are married so u would never have a chance to talk to them if u were out and about. i already changed my location to vegas and have a few milfs who want to fuckk when i get out there.
the last thing i need now is a chick holding me down. so that part of the move i could care less about.
its more the financial that could hold me back.. i am a true degenerate and i love all aspects of the lifestyle of drinking, dipping, betting and whoress .
and i am debating if i shouldnt just go for them all or not in vegas.

Forget money management and making it through rough stretches, this will be your downfall no questions asked. If you really want to give the gambling thing a serious run, get out of the country. Drunken gambling leads to all kind of terrible things. For real.

I think you've answered your question, you aren't going. I truly thought your post was sincere, but I don't think you truly planned to do this all along, what a shame. In ten years you'll look back and think what if?

Based on how you describe yourself, I would lay 100-1 that you wont last a full year in Vegas.
Not telling you not to go, but you have close to a zero chance of being successful gambling. You might bang a lot of ladies, you might party, but gambling for profit aint your thing. I can tell you that right now.
But you will read this and think it doesn't apply to you - and that's OK - you will need to learn it for yourself.

I just read the rest of the thread.

I often have this conversation with my 83 year old mother....
"Vanzack, I need to mail this letter"
"Mom, why dont you just send an email? It gets there instantly, there is no postage charges, and you can send pictures and other things along with it."
Sounds like this conversation with you. So far 10 people have told you that you dont have to go to Vegas to do what you want to do. That it is cheaper not to. That you can get better lines not in Vegas. That you have a better chance of being profitable outside of Vegas.
But you are like my mom insisting on going to the post office? Why? Why havent you even acknowledged what so many people here suggest who have experience?
As far as your questions about books... I have several friends who bet much more than your type of money at 5dimes. They now use bitcoin. It is very easy. There are even bitcoin sportsbooks that I have dabbled with that take 10 bitcoin wagers (about 3k currently) and you get your money back instantly and it is reduced juice.
Any of these options are better than going to Vegas. Repaint your room the colors of the Mirage Hotel and pretend you are in Vegas.

I 100% planned on going... But then i thought how nice it will be to get my paycheck tommorow, how i am putting 9% a paycheck away into my 401K, how it's 140 degrees everyday in the summer, how there are scorpions and spiders and all kinds of bad reviews on most apartments, and how i can still bet a lot online here or with bookies and i reconsidered some..
i had this in my heart tho
