The best of the best will gather at Royal Troon for the 152nd Open Championship, and it’s no surprise that World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is the betting favorite in the latest British Open odds.

It’s a loaded field, as Rory McIlroy, Xander Schauffele, Ludvig Aberg, and Collin Morikawa headline a deep tier of contenders to win.

Here are our top British Open picks for the final major of the 2024 season.

Best outright picks for 2024 British Open

Prop bet #1: Calling Collin

Collin Morikawa has been consistently knocking on the door in big-time events since finishing T3 at the Masters, showcasing elite form with five Top 5 finishes across his past nine tournaments. Just as solid is that his worst result during the heater was a T16 at the Wells Fargo Championship.

The two-time major champion is seventh in this field in both true strokes gained tee-to-green and putting, and he’s second in driving accuracy as well. Morikawa has also gained true strokes across the board in five consecutive events to reinforce just how tight his game is.

Pick: Collin Morikawa to win outright (+1,600 at bet365)

Prop bet #2: Finally Finau's time

The game has looked easy for Tony Finau of late. He’s rolled off three straight Top 10s in stacked-field events, including his impressive T3 showing in the U.S. Open, and he ranks fifth in true strokes gained tee-to-green, third in true strokes gained approach, and 15th in true strokes gained putting in this field during the run.

Additionally, one of his four Top 20s in six trips to the Open Championship came at Royal Troon with his T18 in 2016. A major championship is the next feather in Finau’s cap, and he’s playing the well-rounded game required to contend again this week.

Pick: Tony Finau to win outright (+5,000 at FanDuel, 0.25 units)

Prop bet #3: Aussie arrives in form

It took a huge break and a heroic finish from Robert MacIntyre to beat Adam Scott in the Genesis Scottish Open last week, and I’m anticipating the Aussie carding another solid four rounds at Royal Troon. Scott is notoriously streaky, and when his ball-striking is dialed and putts start falling, he’s still an elite talent with a winner’s swagger.

Scott's solo second last week was his best result of the season, and he finished fourth in true strokes gained off-the-tee, ninth in true strokes gained tee-to-green, and 10th in true strokes gained putting. His Open Championship experience will also serve him well, having played the weekend in 17 of 19 Opens with five Top 10 finishes.

Pick: Adam Scott to win outright (+7,000 at FanDuel, 0.25 units)

He loves to lean on his rolodex of idioms to offset his inner nerd. When it comes to wagering, he throws down on anything that catches his eye at bet365, Betway and BetVictor. He also keeps a close eye on CoolBet because the polar bear brand often has outlier NHL and NFL moneyline prices.

After teaching a myriad of courses and subjects, he found a groove delivering fun lessons to exceptional learners in non-traditional classroom environments. If his decade-plus teaching run taught him anything about sports betting, it’s to stay the course and use the summer – or offseason – to refresh and prepare to be better in the year to come.

Neil’s top pieces of advice for recreational bettors are to stay within your means and to remember sportsbooks aren’t bank accounts. Don’t be afraid to pull those winnings and treat yourself to a lifetime experience courtesy of a big win.
