Maridoe Golf Club course notes

Maridoe Golf Club will play around the 7,500-yard mark and is expected to give these guys a tremendous challenge. To give some perspective on how difficult this venue is, PGA Tour members Jordan Spieth and Will Zalatoris are current members while Scottie Scheffler is a former member that still plays here occasionally.

Those guys would not be playing here if it did not benefit their prep for their professional seasons. They say everything is bigger in Texas, and I think that will ironically come into play this weekend as long hitters who can succeed in difficult scoring conditions should find the most success.

LIV Golf Dallas Team Championship picks and predictions

Pick to win: Legion XIII
+275 at bet365

Legion XIII possesses the shortest odds to win, and for good reason. Team captain Jon Rahm just won the season-long individual championship and has been a monster on LIV this season, winning two of the season's final three events to go with Top 10 finishes in all 12 appearances.

That consistency makes him one of the two best golfers in the field along with Bryson DeChambeau. And while I still rate DeChambeau slightly higher, the latter’s team is likely better suited for this event. Distance will be big this week and Legion XIII ranks second among the LIV teams in average driving distance.

Rahm, Vincent, Surratt, and Hatton all rank inside the Top 20 in driving distance which gives them a big team advantage over DeChambeau’s Crushers GC as none of his teammates crack the Top 20 in that category. This is a total team event, meaning all four scores will matter this weekend.

The three teams who receive a bye (Crushers GC, Legion XIII, and Ripper GC) have a massive advantage over the rest of the field considering they get a free pass into the weekend. Subsequently, those three teams make up the Top 3 spots on the odds board.

I trust Legion XIII the most out of the three considering the balanced power among its four golfers as well as the top-heavy star power of Rahm and Hatton.

LIV Golf Dallas Team Championship event format

In Friday’s quarterfinals, 10 teams will compete in a match-play format. Those five winning teams advance to Saturday’s semifinals, where they take on the three teams that earned a bye (Crushers GC, Legion XIII, and Ripper GC).

Those three teams pick the three teams they wish to face in Saturday’s event, while the remaining two unpicked winners from Friday will face off against each other. The four winning teams will go on to compete for the Team Championship on Sunday, with the lowest team score earning the victory.

This utterly ridiculous method of concluding a golf season aside, this is generally an interesting event, and since there are odds, we’ll be betting on it.
